      Yes I agree, if we were all kinder to each other especially on social media the world would be a better place. I think people don’t realise that all people celebrity, high profile or anonymous are human and have feelings. I think the word ugly is such a loaded term and so damaging. I must admit I fall into the trap as well but I working on it take care

    Omg this hit home for me. My parents never said/say things that lead me to internalize beauty being equal to self worth, but it was definitely just a bunch of random instances. Boys at school were nicer to girls they found attractive. One of my friends would always jokingly call me and herself the “ugly ones” in our friend group, and once told me “we’re both going to end up getting married later in life because guys just don’t like women who look like us.” It took me a long time to unlearn all this junk but Alhamdulillah, I find so much beauty in myself that is both related and unrelated to my appearance. Thanks for making this🥺

      Omg I relate!
      I found it really odd when my friend said that too. And there’s actually been multiple instances where she has said basically exactly the same thing as ur friend. I don’t think it came from a bad place - but perhaps an insecure place. But I would be lying if I said it didn’t hurt me a little bit because I was being called ugly. And it also didn’t feel right that she perceived herself that way. I would never call her ugly and I also am not a fan of self deprecating jokes. It did take me a while to get over that! But like u said we need to find the beauty within us and we know ourselves better than anyone else!

      I am sorry that this is what you went through. Yes, I went through similar things growing up. It’s so hard, but looking back I wish I did not take it so personally, but I guess when this message gets reinforced and there is no one to counter the message that you are “ugly” when you are young and impressionable this is what resonates. Try to find your own beauty standards, for we all can find this within ourselves. Do what makes you feel good, take care

      It reminds me of white people laughing at our body hair. I remember being bullied as a child by white Dutch girls who yelled that I had hair on my arms. I was surprised, I never noticed it. But during lunchbreak we were all outside and in the sunlight those same white Dutch girls had entire woods of thick blond hair on their own arms. One of them even had thick blond hair on her cheeks. I don't have that much hair on my body and even if I did, it should not be okay to bully me or anyone over something like that. I never said anything about their own body hair, because I didn't like arguments. Now I think I should have said something so they would realise how ridicilous their bullying was.
      My son also gets remarks over his body hair. Even some of his friends do this. He once pointed out that they had the same amount of body hair as he. They replied:"Yes, but your hair is dark so it is ugly and ours is blond." I will never understand the "logic" of racist bullies.

I'm Dutch but somehow don't look Dutch at all (dark wavy hair, thick eyebrows, mustache, you know the deal haha) and I felt the same way growing up. When I was 11 the whole class was laughing about a guy breaking up with my friend because her arms were too hairy?? That made me worried because my arms were 'even worse', and I remember going home and asking my mom how on earth I could get rid of my arm hair so the same thing wouldn't happen to me. I've been waxing my arms ever since 😅 The thing is I'm not even THAT hairy, but growing up with all these blonde kids made me feel so weird about my dark hair

I often heard racist people say that only Turkish females or only Indian females are hairy, sometimes they mention Greeks or Italian females too. But everyone has body hair. And if someone has more hair or has black body hair, why they feel the need to put that person down is beyond me. You and your friend didn't commit any crimes, you just have hair on your body like most females on the planet.

    tbh this is a huge reason why I would love to wear a niqab sometimes. Just not giving anyone the oppurtunity to look at my face - even if it is just my face - and not letting them rate it, define it for themselves as what they personally perceive as pretty or ugly. Isn't this ridiculous? For a woman it doesn't even need to be about the body, even just her face is enough for someone to treat you in a different way depending on what you look like (not just when 'ugly', but there is also pretty privilege) or change the way you think about yourself and make you throw what the closest people around you, who love you think about you in the trash for an opinion of a stranger that has seen nothing of your soul. It's really ridiculous to me. Even with only my face and hands showing people comment about my looks and treat me differently without even knowing me or waiting to get to know me, and every woman is familiar with this. I can't speak for men, but isn't it amazing (in a negative way) how for a woman even if it's just the face they can see and rate, it immediately becomes the representation of her whole being?
    Thanks, girl for making this video and raising some important questions❤

    • @patchworkpig89
      @patchworkpig89 3 года назад +7

      Yes true. Thanks for the thought provoking comment. The problem is once you wear niqab in a culture where that isn’t the norm, people are going to bring a whole ton of prejudicial assumptions to the interaction before you even open your mouth to speak. So for me it would be totally counterproductive. In the age of COVID though you can wear a mask and achieve the same effect without the baggage that comes with niqab.

    • @missmia5468
      @missmia5468 2 года назад

    • @capucnechaussonpassion14
      @capucnechaussonpassion14 Год назад

      Wouldn't a niqab have the same effect as your face like you'll be judged anyways but it would shift on this ? Even outside of racist reasons you would be evaluated not on your face but the fabric you put in front of it ? Idk if people judge your face i don't see how they wouldn't judge a niqab too regardless of if they see it as a positive or negative ?

    • @capucnechaussonpassion14
      @capucnechaussonpassion14 Год назад

      I just wonder how that would really be different in the end... I feel like we can hide anything we want, live by any external pressures too and that it would never be enough and that sometimes the only solution is to resist and state your limits or ignore other people's judgment i guess. But we don't have the same background and experiences so that's easy to say i guess

    This really resonated with me. I recently found out that my MIL thinks I'm ugly and it was so mortifying. I wouldn't mind if she thought I was average but ugly is such a harsh word. She always wanted someone white passing for her son (tall, straight hair, fair skinned) and while I'm not dark, I look very 'ethnic' and have curly hair. I always thought I was at least average so this has made me feel exactly as you did, as though I never saw reality clearly.

I believed that I was disgusting just because of how I looked. This idea came from only a couple of bullies but I just did not have the self esteem to disagree.
    In hind sight, the thing that upsets me most is how attractiveness is somehow equated to worth as a person just like you pointed out. On the bright side, I do get the idea that this notion is slowly starting to change in society.

      I’ve always felt ugly as much as people have said otherwise. Sometimes I think if it’s if I’m so ugly people just tell me that to comfort me. But I started to think why the hell does it matter. Why do I care if I’m pretty or ugly it might be on other peoples agenda some ppl only like pretty people pretty provelage etc but that’s on them. If they judge people on appearance that’s their problem. And being ugly wonts stop me from pursuing my dreams, being ugly won’t make my life shorter or the air I breathe more polluted but rather instilling an insatiable desire to be pretty will pollute my head. I’ve come to the conclusion I look ok and I don’t need to be pretty to be kind or pretty or smart. Yes it’s difficult and I’m not positive about it 24/7 but you know what who cares.

Some people are immensely beautiful, some people are immensely smart, some people are immensely good at fixing things, some people are immensely funny, some people are immensely good at talking convincingly, some people are immensely adorable (not the appearance; it is their character. Once, they start talking, love for them pours out of your soul and you do not know how to express your love for them), some people are immensely good at understanding other people and what goes through their head etc. Everyone has something great about themselves. The thing is that the media pushed those immensely beautiful into the center and the other good features others have seemed to be less relevant. Everyone started to get plastic surgery or makeup to the point that you, as a normal person, started to appear ugly. Allah is al-Jamal and Allah shows its name in everything. By society standards, you may not be beautiful, but for Allah you definitely are and as your muslim sister, you are beautiful in my eyes too. Look at the woman now who changed themselves. Same nose, same lips, same boobs, same butt, same clothes, but you refused to be like them and you chose uniqueness. Haha and tbh, you know what? While everyone will look trash and disgusting when they get older, you will still appear normal, innocent and young, because you didn't damage your face and body as much as they did.

    The point of this video is that sometimes sharing your struggles is what leads to that light bulb moment, either for yourself or for others, and I thank you without measure for sharing. In the words of Khalil Gibran, your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding.
    It's kind of a relief to know that we are not alone, that there are others who struggle with such issues just the same as you do, but I'm so angry that our self-imposed isolation in this suffering is so widespread. Why are we not taught to trust in the love that Allah has for us, and how to honour that love, for real? We have a duty to do better for our daughters and our daughters' daughters, to nourish their hearts as well as their bodies, to embody kindness but take no shit from anyone.

    Can't believe how people are that horrible - you're very brave for putting yourself out there, not because of how you look, but because of those heartless people. It's harder, as you said, for women to distance ourselves from beauty standards - we don't have to be pretty, always, that's a fact. Thank you for your insight (and you're beautiful) !

    Frankly, ehat attracted me to your vids first was how pleasant you looked.. and how you reminded me of a friend (not a celebrity 🤣) whom i think of as pretty too..
    How ever, in the spirit of talking about ugliness, might I suggest that you wear warmer tones? Pastel green isn't great to olive skinned people lol. Bright pastels in general

    I have a lot of scars on my skin and I used to be insecure about it. I stopped wearing tons of make up to cover it all up. Now that i have kiddos i see myself differently. I love my children and would hate for them to hate the way they look. I see my self through the eyes of God or try to... and now I love my skin. It isn't perfect but it's mine. I feel my value is worth more than this temporary body.

I felt what you described before and it was one of the worst feelings i've felt in my entire life. Now what really surprised me is that YOU did too. I agree with everything you've said in this video and it's a very important issue. Because of social media women and men start questioning their looks and start to feel really insecure. I'm 2 months post partum and I've already heard the term "bounce back" or snap back like wtf does that even mean. Why is physical appearance the most important thing to focus on??? What about the child that the women just produced!!!! I remember that video you did where you talked about how ppl called you ugly in the comments and it made me soooo mad, like ppl don't have any sensitivity, they just say whatever the hell they want to on social media. Also, who is saying you gained weight??? You look beautiful!

    It is interesting that even newborn babies have a perception of beauty. That's undeniable fact. But the truth is unfortunately we often get stuck in this primitive forms of beauty. We are ugly or beautiful for some standards.
    But let me tell you how I see you;
    Your conversation is beautiful
    Your sense of humor is beautiful
    Your contents are beautiful
    You are already beautiful with your energy
    And I am really glad to see your beauty😊

    to add to this, i feel like desi aunties and family members also have a huge role to play in this sometimes. some of the catalysts for insecurity were comments made by an aunty or a family member. Comments on weight or nose shape or even dressing sense. its annoying and theres only so much you can handle until it starts to bother you.

    I love watching your videos, they always let me into a new way of seeing things and provide a much deeper understanding of societal norms. I think its important for everyone to recognise that we do indeed live in a superficial society because that's the first step to addressing the issue.

    I don't want to downgrade someone but people with these superficial standards are dumb shits themselves. They don't have half of your wit, humor, and intelligence. You have a personality that radiates, Taz. Even the prettiest will get old and no one will care how they look. Great personalities and habits transform the nations, they make societies. Beauty guarantees nothing. Not saying you are not beautiful but honestly, if you were fake or snooty, I wouldn't have come here. I am here because of your realness, no drama, no show-off. Only a genuine person💕

    Thank you for making this video. I think I indirectly needed this because I too growing up have had similar experiences but it was more implicit treatment due to colorism. What I have come to learn with time though is that the most important thing is self love. How I see myself is what matters most!! My beliefs and how I feel is what makes a difference. Learning to let go of individuals, experiences, and things who make you feel any type of way is crucial. Remove all negativity and free yourself. Hurt people hurt people and people always project onto others so in the end, take good care of yourself. You have to do what genuinely makes you feel good about yourself and focus on all that brings happiness to your heart. Beauty is internal and that blissful sense of self worth is found within. We must give that gift of self confidence to ourselves. ✨

    You are beautiful, both from the inside and from the outside. Your eyes are pretty and your smile is lovely.
    I think that people who aren't evil, have something extra beautiful in their appearance, even if their features might not be perfect according to the standards of their times. I've seen many evil people with perfect features, who still had something ugly. At first, I didn't understand why, but then I saw their nasty side and I realised that their evil character made them ugly. When you are a good person from the inside, you have extra beauty in your appearance. It makes you beautiful even if you might not have the perfect features and if you do have perfect features, your beautiful character only enhances those. Behaviour and intentions are linked to your looks and appearance..

I know that you certainly don't want to hear cheesy lines telling you that you're gorgeous no matter what people might say. But still I find you beautiful and it's mostly based on your personnality. Most important is that you do you. And gurl you're shining hard

    I have never been more insecure in my life then rn b/c of the shaadi scene. Rishtas coming in and not feeling confident is a big thing . Esp b/c the grooms mom is the one who sees the pics first. I , personally find it damaging to my mental health soooo I decided to just take a break from it all. I wonder if others feel the same

    This really hit home for me recently. I never saw myself as pretty growing up but gradually, I accepted that I am beautiful the way I am bc Allah created me that way. However, I've gained weight for the past 7 years (after being relatively skinny throughout my adolescent years) and even more so since the pandemic started. I've now moved back home with my parents and with it, came out comments about how I'm now fat and wouldn't be able to find a boyfriend or husband smh. It really hurt my feelings seeing as these comments were coming from people I love. Years of learning to love my body and face felt like it was nothing. I wished I didn't care but I do anyway. And Tasneem, you are so beautiful inside and out mashaAllah
