Brilliant video. Im thinking of buying a PD machine and your video is such an edication and insight as to what goes on inside the keg. It helps us users to understand exactly how it works and not to worry as such if we do see a slight leak. Cheers for that. Very helpful.
Thanks. That was the idea. A lot of people believed their kegs were flat or that the keg had leaked. Thanks for taking the time to watch it a d most of all comment.
Very interesting Neil, didn't know there was a bag inside the keg until your video just like boxes of wine like you said. Hope Beerhawk don't give you into trouble for destroying one of their kegs! 😅. Dispelling the tight Scotsman stereotype (I'm one too!) ...by forgoing your £5 keg return 😁
It's actually a very simple design. Unfortunately I never got my £5 keg return on that keg. I think it's because I taped it back up and wrote "may have a leak" on it 😂🤣😂
I kept meaning to ask on the Facebook groups if someone could geek out on a keg and do exactly what you've done. I just never got round to it. Brilliant demo, thanks for sacrificing £5 for my curiosity :-D So are we saying that part of the process is to put an empty silver bag in a keg with a new corresponding label on it and then beer is pumped into the empty bag? My recycling conscience is going mental now but at least we're reusing the metal keg part...
Yeah. The black rubber middle bit comes out with a a rigid straw, surrounded by the bag. The inside of the keg isn't very clean but then again it doesn't need to be. Although you're replacing the foil etc. You're saving the aluminium lag and whatever environment effect cleaning would have. From my understanding the blade system is the same but they're 100% plastic. Not sure which is better.
Can you tell me if the PD tap will work on its own Without the machine? I have a blade and don't want to be clogging up my bar with another machine plus having two machines going at one time, my neighbour drinks with me but only likes budweiser. so was thinking of buying just the PD tap and keep the keg in the fridge, I have 3 fridges in my pub shed so plenty of space would this work?
No, the machine works in the same way as your blade. Air is pushed between the me and the bag containing beer, within the keg. That pushes the beer out. Without the machine, there would be nothing to chill the beer or push it out...
@@nmealey ah right thanks for letting me know, he will have to do without then, I have a Fizzics DraftPour which I use for his cans of budweiser anyway. 👍
I was bought a couple of these but cannot get hold of the dispensing machine as they are sold out. Is there a safe way to get the beer out or do I HAVE to use the machine?
They're now in stock at beerhawk. Use this link for 10% off the machine. www.tinyurl.com/pdktipswelcome You can't just use the tap as you need to pressurise the gap between the keg and the foil bag holding the beer. You could maybe adapt a bicycle pump to put air in maybe... (Code may not give 10% at the moment)
BH send them to AB InBev who then remove the labels and used bag, clean the kegs, check for faults and then send them to the kegging plant where a new bag is installed and filled them a new label with a new Use By date is added. This is why it’s best to label and leaking/faulty kegs with marker so AB InBev can either repair them or strip them to repair other kegs. Hope this helps. Joff
Joff Hall But how do they open them ? That’s what i really leant 😂 can’t see them doing it with a dodgy disc cutter like Neil used 😆 oh and look at them weeds 😃
you need the keg to compress the bag and push the beer out, but technically yes. I'll be like a wine bag and you'd have to keep it in the fridge..... hmmmm thats maybe a future video?

It is relatively easy to pull out the bag together with the plastic top. Then you can reuse the keg for wine-making, etc.
You tried?
@@durschfalltv7505 yes, definitely
this looks like a start of a casualty episode the way you cut that mate
"Is it fully charged, coz I'm doing a video with it and don't want to look a twat"
"Yeah, course it is...."
He lied!
You need a better grinder dood
Thanks very much ..I was always wondering how it worked.
No problem 👍

30L polykeg/keykegs use the same principle - brewfitt pygmy for the pump&cooler
It's a clever (and simple) way of doing it. The blade and Sub use the same theory but they obviously have single use vessels.
I’ve just got a keg with a hole in it !!! Wondered why just air was coming out !!!
Can't waste liquid gold 😉
There must be an easier way to get inside, considering they reuse them?

Oh, I forgot to add.... I sent the keg back taped back together with a note saying "may have a leak" I never got my £5 back !

did you ever cut something befor with an angle grinder?
Yes, but this time I was assured that the grinder had a full battery... It didn't hence why it kept stopping!
I was bought a couple of these but cannot get hold of the dispensing machine as they are sold out. Is there a safe way to get the beer out or do I HAVE to use the machine?
You have to use the machine. Or at least the tap system from the machine
You can get them from amazon.fr delivered to the UK. Just ordered mine.
@@nmealey So you could just use this (www.philips.co.uk/c-p/HD5038_01/philips-beer-tap-unit) without the whole base unit?

So. How do BH refill them when we send back empties ?

@@thetattooedcurrygeezer1802 leave my weeds alone, they take nurturing! They pop the plastic ring off and pull the whole lot out through the hole.
Neil Mealey Ahhhh got ya. Lol at weeds. More worries about the sex toy mid left corner 😆
Hey, is this bag made of aluminum? That would be not that healthy
Not sure it's foil like you get in wine boxes
Is that a space hopper for squirrels on the left? 😂
Dog toy lol
A disgusting waste of materials on packaging. Same concept as my crappy Sub machine... Basically fake draught. Thanks for the video though, great job!
Probably less environment effect as they're recycling the keg 🤔
I think you need grinder lessons before you hurt yourself buddy!
I was assured it was a fully charged battery but it wasn't.
How to lose a finger in 3 easy steps.
Ironically I didn't, but lost 3/4 of one at work 😳. 😂🤣😂😂
lol wow thats different than heinakein .... lol why ot just buy a bag o beer ha ha
It's the same principle as the blade or the sub. Their beer is in a bag too, just theirs has a plastic keg.
@@nmealey in the USA they have Heineken mini kegs made of steel and they use a real CO2 system with charcoal. No bag in those it's amaazing
@@drewsquickfix that's a hit more complex than putting a new bag in and filling it up!
So really the kegs are a bit of a scam? They could just sell it in bags? But the kegs are just a sales gimmick.

Just my type of video
😂🤣😂🤣. In my defence I was told the grinder was fully charged... It wasn't, but you just gotta go with it 😁
