I really appreciate how you actually go there and show us the spots. Maps and Google Earth are great, but seeing it from a boots on the ground perspective gives it so much extra!
I was lucky enough to have been able to visit Imagineering on an Adventures by Disney tour of Hollywood and Disneyland and was impressed by the intelligence, creativity and enthusiasm of everyone we spoke to from Imagineers who were just hired a few months ago to those who had been there 40+ years. We even got to chat briefly with Josh D’Amaro and though he couldn't tell us specifically what was coming he did tell us a little about his appreciation for Walt, Disneyland, and Imagineering and his enthusiasm about what was coming was contagious and really, really encouraging.
I don’t doubt he’s a genuinely good guy that’s enthusiastic about the history of Walt and Disneyland but for some reason when he publicly talks to the media about what’s next for Disneyland, it all comes out like a corporate script. He recently explained how x-franchise is popular and has yet to be untapped at Disneyland so he’s leaning towards that (I’m paraphrasing) but it just comes off as reactive and inconclusive rather than proactive to Park decision making. I knows he’s passionate but whether it’s corporate mandate or current culture at Disney that’s influencing him, Parks/Imagineering never sound solid or on the same page anymore.
@@b_d15 That's the curse of huge, bureaucratic, publicly traded corporations...they look quarters ahead instead of decades ahead. There are many, many true fans, artists, engineers, etc., burrowing away down there below the surface level, though, and my hope is that they will be able to weather the storms blowing around on the surface and continue to be able to come up with amazing things for us to enjoy.
Holy transformation, that parking garage is going to huge. Excited to see this transformation. I just hope Disney doesn’t drag their feet and it takes forever for this to be completed.
"Philharmagic, because nobody cares.". Wow, I adore Philharmagic. One of my favorite things in DCA and must do every time I am there. Some of us adore the show elements as much ad if not more than the rides
Hey Brickey! Can't wait. The parking lot is just the stepping off point! Once that's in place, they can start making more magic! Rides, attractions, shops, food, the possibilities are endless, well until they run out of room again😂! Keep up the awesome work. You're almost to 40K subs!
This is what I was thinking - the parking garage has to go in first for everything else to have room to be built. Thanks for your in-depth problem solving design perspective. This is so much fun! 😊
A full third gate in the Toy Story lot would definitely require them to buy garden walk and build a bridge over Katella. Throughout the Disneyland forward campaign they’ve emphasized that they’re not buying more land so either they have some sneaky plans going on or it’s another 20+ years down the road.
That parking garage will be huge and will be a massive game changer. I have been going to Disneyland since the early 1970's and it has been so fun to see the transitions over the years (with the one exception being Tomorrowland). I wonder if they could actually have people movers going from the Eastern garage into tomorrow land. This would be one happy Disney fan if that happens. Bring back people movers!!!
Thank you for summarizing this for us! Really great work. I agree, and it makes perfect since that Disney will break ground with the parking structure first: they probably have most (if not all) planing done for it and they want people to park somewhere while they tear down the other parking spaces. But 3 things come to mind: 1. I agree they can re use the shuttles space and esplanade area - but I still think Disney would want you to enter through Main Street. How do you think they accomplish this while using the new space? It’s hard for me to imagine. 2. I feel that Toy Story parking lot is big, but not enough for a new land that is worth the travel time to it (even if it’s from the edge of DCA). I think Disney would build a budget hotel (think all star in Disney world) with restaurants and shopping area. They know that the surrounding area is budget option for people and I think they want some of that action. But I think Disney would put a spin on it so it would still be an experience people want to see. 3. Do you think Disney would get rid of Mickey and friends / Pixar pals parking structure? I feel like if not now - then in the future. I know this structure costs them millions - but it might be cheaper than buying new land. I don’t think they would do it in the near future: but maybe in 10-20 years… what do you think?
Here's a question for you Brickey, I am 54 years old. Do you think this third gate will happen in my lifetime? I figure I have another 20 to 25 years of theme park visiting in me
Really enjoy your perspective on all things Disney. Really love how the Disney community is so diverse, with Theme Park Reviews doing just that, Justin being almost a character and prime story teller, Magic Journey's showing us all the amazing food, Ordinary Adventures showing us experiences and traveling, and Fresh Baked giving updates on the park and general news info. I appreciate you, Brickey, and all those other great Disneyland content creators!
Nearly 17,000 parking stalls… wow! It will be critical to get those vehicles parked quickly and efficiently. I don’t usually drive when visiting SoCal, but I do remember massive backlogs waiting to access M&F. I’m eager to see how this turns out. Exciting times!
Oh wow, I did not know they were planning to build that large of parking structure. I think that makes a 3rd gate almost certain if they are adding that many parking spaces. So the new structure will run the length of Disney along Harbor Blvd? What exactly was this land before?
Disneyland Forward has the potential to be another revolutionary event in the history of the mothership. May they spend as much on creativity as they do on parking! If they lay another dud like they did when DCA debuted it would be catastrophic, indicate that they haven’t learned their lessons, and that the spreadsheet folks and not the creative team is in charge. That would be a sad day that I hope never comes. But yes, it all starts with parking and a new front door that leads to 3 parks, Downtown Disney and 3 resorts! And I predict a WestCoast Skyliner that connect the new parking garage, new park and the current Esplanade. Keep the killer videos coming Prof. Brickey!
I am buying this idea more and more. The more I think about content like this, the more I lean into the idea that at some point, almost the whole northeast corner of DCA and the southeast corner of DL will eventually be made into something else. They've done basically nothing to that area of DCA in nearly 25 years - why? In a theme park where space is at an absolute premium, to the point where they are proposing to expand the existing park footprints into their existing hotel spaces, why not actually do something with that massive Hollywood space?
Your Disneyland forward series is my absolute favorite! I love dreaming and imagining alongside you for the possibilities of Disneyland forward! I’m glad you’re still around, and love your contents so very much!
learned a lot from your podcast episode with WDW news today! like that garden walk is already zoned for time shares…. very fascinating info! thanks for all your work you do!
I've been wondering even with the new parking garage why the idea was the transport hub would be changed to more park but now I get it! And oh man I just kind of had the chills a little. What a great time to be a Disneyland citizen!
I might be mistaken but if i remember correctly during the meeting that gave them the approval from the commissioning department, they said the 1.9 billion needs to be spent within the first ten years. With that said, i remember them saying that the 1.9 billion has to be used for theme park experiences and capacity but can not be used for things like parking structures or infrastructure. Seems like multiple projects will most likely be done to be able to meet that ten year deadline
First Domino for sure. But I don’t think we are getting a third gate. My guess is next we are getting a DVC/Hotel ground scraper like the grand in the Toy Story lot. Especially when you consider Potrock’s background.
I agree that a garage will be built 1st, however l feel the garage will be the NE corner of Ball and Harbor for cast member parking. It may turn out that both garages will be built at once. My dream is that not only will both garages be built at the same time, but the NE expansion of DCA will also be in progress.
The freeway off/on ramps may take a bit of time to get done, as that will not be Disney connecting into the freeways. Other projects that may start are the road improvements on Ball and Katella, as well as the altering of Magic Way.
The Garden Walk property is zoned for time share and Disney heavily emphasized DVC to the city council. There is one empty plot of land East of Garden Walk. In 2001, when DCA opened, there were 2 empty plots of land. Castmemers explained that Disney owned these 2 plots for hotels that they would allow other hotel operators to build upon and run; and that both hotels would be serviced by monorail.
Hey Brickey! I saw you on the WDWNT podcast today. Well done. I’m glad you’re getting the additional exposure. Hopefully, it gets you additional subscribers. I love the channel. You have a unique look at the parks. The history of the parks that you narrate, are top notch and evokes strong emotional connections. You also aren’t scared to tell Disney management what they don’t want to hear. You use your voice when the rest of can only speak with our wallets. We didn’t renew this year and you told them why. Maybe I’ll run into you again the next time there’s an over crowded under planned Ahsoka signing with my daughter. Maybe at the next Celebration. We will be doing some Disney cruises until we feel the parks really want us back. Speaking of Disney Cruises, I think the ships could really use your perspective of going over the design of the DCL ships. Ever thought about doing a Disney cruise and doing that?
You are absolutely correct saying it's about the money. Anaheim needs money. And Disney is buying the businesses and properties that have historically held them back. Hope to see great things.
Another amazing video! I just like hearing your thoughts. You have one of my favorite perspectives on the parks. Seems like it’d be a blast to visit Disneyland with you.
Long time viewer/subscriber to your channel. Glad the 100 days went our way! I agree with you closing comments about Garden Walk. Disneyland Forward asked for several changes to Garden Walk and up to "4 time share hotels" in that area. Do you think Disney may have already made an offer that was contingent on DF being passed? Because they certainly zoned it like they owned it. Little off the reservation but I think it's very possible.
Love your videos Brickey! I see your vision and am excited for the changes to come. I personally will be a little sad to see the buses go away. I feel the buses are more streamline than the tram from mickey & friends. But I see your point when you say, "buses or more rides".
Keep doing your thing! We support you perspective in your videos. In a side note, think we need another challenge video, like the bench or train. My favorite to watch over and over!
I recall being annoyed when businesses along Harbor Blvd several years ago opposed the eastern parking structure because it would feed users straight over to the parks & bypass hotels & retailers on the street. However, I get why any business doesn't want to lose its customer base, but most of those customers were there to begin with because of "Disney," not "IHOP,," "Tony Roma's, "Castle Inn" or "7-11," etc. The only bad thing about the need for a huge multi-level parking structure is that it eats up a lot of money compared with raw developable land similar to the Toy Story lot---or former strawberry fields. I wonder if the current owner of GardenWalk would have competed as much for that property if they knew in the past what they know today. But if stores or shopping on Harbor Blvd is weak, there are developers of hotels who continue to sniff around for land in Anaheim. Also, if the Disney Co in the 2020s is facing greater economic-political headwinds, that won't help matters.
Hey Brickey!!! What would you prefer to have built in the transportation hub section, frozen land moana land something from another park not at disney yet or you got something else in your creative mind?
Thanks again for a great video, Brickey! Im in the camp that the first projects involving Disneyland Forward will be the Eastern Gateway. You gotta make parking before you take parking. After that, it will be projects that support guest and traffic movement around the resort. The last phase will be theme park construction. That’s my thinking anyway. Can’t wait to watch it all unfold!
That is key: from the new parking structure/transportation hub how to you get trams and pedestrians over or under Harbor. With that you would need new park entries. What about getting to downtown Disney from there? especially if you do not have a park ticket. Also, from street level (like coming from a Harbor Hotel), how do you get in?
Brickey!! Please.......do a video on Westcot..... this would be a huge Disneyland Forward video. I'm crossing my fingers that Toy Story lot becomes Westcot. Along with the purchase of Garden Walk. I can only dream.... but you're a dreamer too. What it could be? It would be massively big news
Hey Brickey! As always, thank you for your insight and perspective. One question I have though: Will there be some kind of tram/ peoplemover? That is a kinda long walk, especially because I go with my mom who mostly uses a wheelchair (which I push).
I think that having multiple entrances is what they want hence the magic bands at disneylnad. I just think they'd need to make sure they have a ticket agent there as well not just security. I have run into so many issues where they sent me to the ticket booth to fix a reservation
Do you think ART, neighboring hotel and ride share drop offs will have a drop off area in this new transportation hub? What about pedestrians walking from Harbor hotels? Super excited to dream about these changes and how it will affect future visits!
Kind of sad to see the Toy Story lot go as it was super convenient when staying at those hotels around it. A third gate will be much better in the long run and maybe there will be some Disney transportation to the other gates. 🤞
Making a more efficient parking\transportation hub would be a great first step to expand Disneyland. Not something that will WOW people, but if you expand the parks first getting to the park will just become a larger nightmare given the current transportation layout.
I believe most of the development will be for hotels, not attractions because Disney double dips on guests that stay on site. It would be nice to have an affordable Disney hotel, but we all want new lands. We’ll get a few more attractions from Disneyland Foreword but I’m keeping my expectations low and expecting lots of new hotels.
Could they add theme park space, hotels, etc. to the top of any of the Garages, including the new one? I heard of a mountain complex of hotels and entertainment district that had been planned for Walt Disney World, with parking under the mountain that everything else was on. Perhaps that idea could be revived for more landlocked Disneyland?
I agree with you....taking care of establishing necessary infrastructure has to to come first....it's just not as sexy as building the new attractions....I remember when they started the work to build DCA...pull up some of the old pics of that and I believe they will prove your point.
I’ve heard that M&F qualified to be built completely with tax $ due to it being connected to the 5 via the flyover ramp. The east structure could qualify as well.
Since one of the major sticking points with the eastern gateway project was the Harbor bridge, I wonder if the new plans will include better access to Harbor from the resort.
Any chance we finally get a monorail stop at DCA? And besides moving walkways, is their a possible people way a people mover style shuttle could appear to move people from parking lot to DD esplanade?
Even though its unfortunately needed, parking is such a waste of this valuable land, it would be so much better if DL forward was about having transit service to the property, if metro extended a line, monorail extension to artic, shuttle busses from are hotel districts, etc. DL is the largest employer in OC, with a lot of employees that could potentially use transit to get to work, as well as guests, not to mention the convention center and all the other hotels and businesses that are close. Also, how will Disney keep the 3rd gate from being the red headed step-child? DL/DCA park hopping is so easy, but getting out to this 3rd gate will take more effort, no matter how you cut it. Some sort of esplanade/3rd gate express tram? I don't see the skyliner being able to carry the volume as park hopping is a lot more popular out here. I would love one of those moving conveyor belts from the new structure, across harbor, and into the esplanade, a cool way to make the walk shorter!
And of course, the first thing that they have to build is a parking lot. Well, it's a good analysis. I agree, although it's not as exciting as when they announce the new lands, rides, etc. Do you think that Disney can do something innovative to get people to like the parking garage, something cool?
Something has to give in that spot at some point. I can’t imagine they don’t take that over. Retail in general is in bad shape and that entire thing looks to be struggling
Awesome video I also wonder/ heard that once that parking structure gets built that maybe Mickey & friends will get destroyed for more park land do you think that would happen brickey?
Curious as to how folks would be transported to the resort, as well as where they’d be dropped off, if they get rid of the transportation hub on the eastern side. Would the resort only be accessible via the bridges/walkways from the new structure?
Brickey is 100% right. This massive parking garage is the key to the third park and to creating a perfect loop within the Disney resort. I predict as Brickey has, with 99% certainty, that the massive new parking garage will have a pedestrian bridge over Harbor Boulevard connecting to the Disney Esplanade, and that the new parking garage will have a pedestrian bridge connecting to Garden Walk, which will then connect to the third new park. There is absolutely no way that Garden Walk was just coincidentally created to be a pathway between the two Disney properties without the intention of eventually becoming the second Downtown Disney. I refuse to believe that this was not the intention of the owner of Garden Walk, either prior owner or current owner. Garden Walk so obviously forms a perfect pathway for people navigating between the two lots, and the developer of Garden Walk absolutely knew that Disney intended to create its massive parking garage at the north east parking lot and intended to create a park in thesouth east parking lot.
The parking garage is inevitable and a must have, but I wonder how those hotels & government building between the two lots are going to feel about the parking garage

So intriguing
Hey Brickey! As always, thank you for your insight and perspective.
One question I have though: Will there be some kind of tram/ peoplemover? That is a kinda long walk, especially because I go with my mom who mostly uses a wheelchair (which I push).
I think that having multiple entrances is what they want hence the magic bands at disneylnad. I just think they'd need to make sure they have a ticket agent there as well not just security. I have run into so many issues where they sent me to the ticket booth to fix a reservation
Interesting!
Thanks for helping us all stay in the land of positive imagination ! 11:13
Disney should use those busses to transport visitors to the parks area from the airport.
My biggest question on the new parking lot is where would all the CMs park once they started building it?
I would like to see them build parking on Ball and Harbor where the RV park used to be. They could put in Skyliner to transport people in.
1:20 phone booths!?????
I’ve heard that M&F qualified to be built completely with tax $ due to it being connected to the 5 via the flyover ramp. The east structure could qualify as well.
Since one of the major sticking points with the eastern gateway project was the Harbor bridge, I wonder if the new plans will include better access to Harbor from the resort.
Great info. Hopefully they will get moving on building some new rides. Would love to see Tron or new marvel rides. This all takes years.
Any chance we finally get a monorail stop at DCA? And besides moving walkways, is their a possible people way a people mover style shuttle could appear to move people from parking lot to DD esplanade?
LOL 2:06 😆
Imagine if they build WESTCOT on the Toy Story lot.
And of course, the first thing that they have to build is a parking lot. Well, it's a good analysis. I agree, although it's not as exciting as when they announce the new lands, rides, etc. Do you think that Disney can do something innovative to get people to like the parking garage, something cool?
Great stuff as usual, thanks a lot, so you assume that Disney will get/buy/demolish the Anaheim Garden Walk?
If they were able to buy the Lulu property, it would square up the Toy Story parking area.
Do you that that strip of land you were walking next too, could be a new Monorail route to the garage and maybe the third park?
The parking garage is inevitable and a must have, but I wonder how those hotels & government building between the two lots are going to feel about the parking garage
