I believe the blade steel on the CX version is higher grade than the standard skeletool.

The regular one has half serrated blade and 420 stainless metal. The difference in the CX is the 154CM steel, and it's full straight blade. The CX is an incredible EDC tool.

Yeah great tool! Good note on the steel, having trouble finding that documented for the regular version. But I don’t doubt it.

The original CX came with serrated blade. Then they switched to selling them only straight. Half serrated that is.

The original Skeletool came with a straight 420HC blade (I owned it for years) and the original CX model came with a combo (half serrated) 154CM blade. Leatherman changed this after feedback from users suggested they swap the style of blades, putting the combo blade in 420 HC on the low end skeletool, and a straight blade in 154 CM on the CX.

It is extremely limited but I like the fact that you can add to it. So that makes it my favorite.

I bought the cx used a few years ago. I've never had any liking for a serrated or semi-serrated blade, more trouble than they're worth! I sometimes carry other multi tools, but the skeletool CX is ALWAYS clipped to my belt loop. It is always handy, and dependable. Won't leave home without it.

I've got the very first version of the skeletool (bought in either 2007 or 2008) while not a CX, mine does have the straight blade without any serations. Today its still my favorite and i also have the Surge/Wave/Signal. I do miss my lost original Charge.

I have carried the Skeletool for the last 15 years or odd, so it works for me. I like you switched the flat blade bit for the Phillips flat blade combo as I got sick of always changing the bit. much better just to flip it around. From day 1 I did not like the serrated/straight knife. After about 3 years I changed the blade to the straight knife. The bit and blade change made the Skeletool a perfect EDC for me.

You’re right the Skeletool is an excellent multitool. I picked up a couple of the regular Skeletools when the Home Depot by me had them on clearance for $20. I like the idea of 5he glass breaking bit. I wish Leatherman sold it separately. Great video!

I personally love my skeletool with the half serrated/half straight blade. Serrated boxes are always better cutting rope and string in my opinion.

Got the Surge for christmas, love it. Have owned a Skelatool and loved it just as much. How strong is the wire cutter on a Skelatool? Have cut the tempered wire on one of those old army beds! Couldn't believe it but it did the job, kodos LEATHERMAN

I think you could count the two bits as four tools, since that's how they would be counted on any other multitool with dedicated or integrated screwdrivers for each. I really struggled to understand the Skeletool initially since it's a little different from the standard multitool mold, but the bits are what really turned it around for me. It's a really nice companion tool for the Wave if you buy the bit kit and other accessories.

    I edc a cx to it comes with 1/4 3/16 bit and a no1 no2 phillips bit

Tyfs. Great review. Right now (last night anyway) on the Leatherman site they are giving the bit kit free with a bunch of different multitool models. I ordered the regular Skeletool.
I think the RX model used to come in orange as a color option, but right now the site only lists red.

Hah! Loved the story about how you sent the Skeletool in instead of the Wave. 300IQ move. I have a Skeletool on its way. Would have liked a CX but they're much more expensive where I am. Thanks for your review.

Tbh I wish they offered more variants of the skeletool in a straight blade... not that the CX is bad, but it forces me to have limited options since I don't prefer having serrations.

My skelettool reg has no serrations 17yrs new. Still great. The bits came as a double flat head and double Phillips as standard. Informative vid, (at least it is for us sad tool freak's),😂

You Americans are so lucky with your low prices of quality items.. Here, prices in local shop: Sidekick 92 dollars, Signal ST $190, Skeletool $110, Wave Box $170, Squirt PS4 $50. I can order on-line, of course, and it's cheaper, but probably 30-50% more expensive than in US. That's not all, german Amazon (usually) charges 10-25 euros for delivery to my country and US Amazon wants $50 for delivery and other duties to EU. I'm so jealous....

I have this tool too but I don't really like it at all. It's uncomfortable to use the bit drivers because of the curve handle. Also the driver bit bites into my palm when I use the pliers. I wanted to love this tool but it just doesn't do it for me.

I carry my “Skeletool” regularly; I don’t like the 1/2 serrated blade. I’m considering getting a “Skeletool KB” & swapping the regular blade out.

I would love to take my Skeletool when traveling but because of the knife it wouldn't get through TSA obviously. Does anybody have any modifications to get it through TSA? I suppose I could just remove the blade altogether but a scissors or something else in its place would be great. Let me know what you all think. TY

    • @err53
      @err53 11 месяцев назад +1

There’s a scalpel holder mod and utility blade holder mod now, which lets you replace the blade with a blade holder instead. For a travel tool, a utility blade holder might be easier to source for at a local hardware store
