I'm a Dodgers fan so I came into this video thinking I'd just get appreciate how good he was during the stretch, but your analysis and comparisons were a welcome surprise. Love the content you've been producing. Can't wait for the success you deserve to finally get to you.
coming back to this, as of september 3rd, his BA is .207, he's on pace for 35-40 homers, and only has 15 doubles; making his season a bit worse than predicted, but not so far off
Immediate hitters that come to mind who finished the season with more home runs than hits are Barry Bonds and Ryan Schimpf. As a Dodger fan, certainly hope it's more the former haha
As a dude who was able to reel off 25 fights on the back of mechanics that translated from baseball real well, it is real satisfying to see a mechanical thing I teach on punches used in baseball too
This was posted just before he dropped two more HRs, a single, a walk, and a strikeout against the Twins. I think Muncy should take The Waterboy's technique and just visualize every pitcher as wearing a Giants uniform. He tears that team up more than any other.
he is a 250 AVG (with banned shift) 35 HR bat. That’s what he always has been when healthy. Not being able to swing a bat for 7 months really hurt him last year during the first half
Schwarber had probably the most insane full season of the three true outcomes. Muncy is a good power hitter, but how come he's not hitting doubles? Must be his low line drive percentage. At least he's contributing to his team. But honestly, I'd rather have a guy who hits .280 and hits a bunch of doubles and singles with moderate power because it's overall more productive. More runs scored, more driven in, more chances to score. But each player is unique.
Hes basically a joey gallo. Can hit the cover off the ball but you got to deal with a .200 avg and is an avg fielder at best. If the dodgers would of kept losing, muncy season wouldnt be looked at so successfully
He’s carried the team when they needed it most. During this current clump they have won 13 of 15 games. It helps to have a complete team around you that can carry the load when not everyone is performing. Take the Padres for example. Juan Soto has slumped since he came to the Padres. He’s been on a tear the past 2 weeks. What’s their record during that span? Not very good. And we have folks who started hot 🥵 but have gone ice cold ❄️. This is where a complete team and organizational excellence carries the day.

Okay--let's put the bad with the goods here. I am glad Muncy is having a good year that will give his career numbers a boost. However, if there is one thing this video demonstrates--it would be a major talking point that a lot of fans have ea concern over, and that is the fact of how way too many players are concentrating on hitting home runs, instead of concentrating on just hitting. It is true that a double or a triple, or maybe even a single is not necessarily eventually going to be a run score. BUT these types of hits do produce a body on the bases, and an opportunity for a teammate to bring the previous runner(s) home. These hits also get put on the hitters' career statistics which would include the batting average and OPS. So what is the value of going for an HR every time one is at bat, if a batter hits a routine ground ball on most of their at bats situation--just because they keep going for the HR? Even Arron Judge says he is not trying for a HR every time he is up--he is just trying to make contacts--and those contacts contribute to the teams' ability to score!
Max Muncy almost did not make it to this point. I read a good article on how Muncy almost left baseball. With help, he reworked his swing and became the player we see today. Players go through slumps. Muncy is not the exception. The man does bounce back. Muncy is a talented hitter.
i loved this video since ive always thought the best parts of your scripts are when you’re pulling from multiple sources close to the player or team involved and using stats to bolster (or contradict) conclusions drawn from their words. i also liked your use of aquino and carpenter as baseball similes to highlight muncy’s outlier status. i think when you wade into speculation you could give a bit more reasoning and context as to why you think things could play out a certain way. you can even insert a little more of yourself and say stuff like “i know it’s crazy but so and so reminds me of x player because of y thing that’s highly subjective” love seeing your scripts get stronger. here’s to more good vids and good baseball.
@@SportStorm23 for sure-but i know the push/pull with that is quantity of vids vs thoroughness. when you put out as much content as you do it can’t be easy to delve deep into every single point you make.
@@Gemnist98 End of year is too late. This is historic failure of epic proportions and requires a deep dive. Who came into this season expecting the Padres to be competing for a wild card spot?
Imagine watching this video and still NOT thinking that High-Level-Pattern/Back-Leg/Rotational hitting is the future, and the future is now. Jeff “Judy” Frye and the “down to it n thru it” gang down bad.
There is a precursor to Muncy and he is Rob Deer, a great power hitter who was feast or famine as he hit near .200 but would crash 35 or 40 homers a year. Go figure!
I called it happening. He was Barry bonds before leaving for his kids birth and I said watch when he gets back he’s gonna be awful again and sure enough it happened. He’d probably have over 20 homers now if he never left abs went into that 3 weeks slump but he looks back again
Muncy has the lowest chase rate in the league by a wide margin for the past few years. His sub .230 average will continue but his high walk and homerun rate will also.
He was an MVP until he left for paternity leave. Since then he’s only had 1 HR, and has been 2022 Max, aka strike out king. He’s back to to his sucky self
2022 Max was injured and returning from surgery. If we believe the super team Padres will click when they haven’t for 40 plus games then Max will be fine too.
Since the arrival of Freeman, Muncy hans't been playing as a 1st baseman. That being said, as a fan of the team, we can't ignore his defensive stats, and focus only on his batting skills.
Max Muncy is eating himself out of the league. I been watching him and his weight gain the last couple years. It’s funny how he’s listed at 215 lbs. The dude easily weighs 260. How do you call yourself a professional baseball player and can’t stop stuffing your face. Can’t believe the Dodgers let Justin Turner walk and kept porko. His batting average is at .187 batting clean up. The only thing he is cleaning up are buffets.
Maybe this is just me, but I HATE these stupid, very specific stats - only player with AVG below .230 and OPS over .900… like WTF is the ludicrously specific stat? I’m sure you could come with a dumb stat for EVERY player if you get specific enough… like only player to hit his 1st Home Run in his 3rd game while wearing mis-matched socks - you see how stupid that sounds?
Since he implemented his step back and fully recovered from his surgery from the second half of last year, he’s been Mad Max
It’s amazing how the day this video was upload, muncy has a multi homer game
Bro went from max muncy to minimum muncy and back to max muncy
Lol
His career as a dodger had always been that way. 2018, 2021 was his up and 2019, 2022 was his down.
Maximum Muncy
Are we talking weight gain here. I don’t remember him being so… rotund.
@@whiteknob7944 i mean no 😂 i was talking about his play and how it was elite then it dropped off and now it’s good again
He hit a HR to center last night that sure looked like it was off the end of the bat. Dude has incredible power in his swing.
Aaaaaand he's back on top of the MLB in HR, as of 5/16

2 homerun game the day you post this 🔥💙
Been loving Muncy's comeback this year. Saw this on my youtube and was pleasantly surprised by the effort you put into this. Subscribed!
Thank you!
Can confirm this was a certified banger

You posted this video today and 3 hours after he has a 4th multi hr game this season
It’s insane how hard this game is to play
It's insane how the ball jumps off his bat, it's like a cheat code in a video game.
