Surviving Enigma's Cold War Server: A-4E Multiplayer Gameplay | Digital Combat Simulator

- Hello and welcome back to the channel. My name is Sport and in this video, I'm going to share a sortie I had on Enigma's Cold War server the other day that kept my heart pumping from the moment I entered the AO. I've found, since the Community A-4E was added, this server organically creates an insane amount of cinematic events, and moments in general that leave me feeling elated, frustrated, panicked, and satisfied.
The server had just restarted and I jumped into an open A-4E slot down in Mezzeh airfield. The plan was to fly an air interdiction mission along the south eastern edge of sector 5-13, looking for any targets of opportunity. As you can see, I am carrying the basic air interdiction loadout I suggested in my multiplayer loadouts video, however as suggested by one of my viewers, I've put the Mk83s on the center station rather than the wings, to help with any asymmetric wing loading once I drop the first bomb. I'll be sure to give my thoughts on it at the end of the video.

What did you guys think of the shot at 9:36 !? I loved that moment! See y’all for the next one!
Amazing camera work. Really, really impressive stuff. Movie-worthy!
I'm sure it took a long time to find the exact spot to film from in the DCS replay, very nice shot!
@@DCSMustang probably 4-5 tries to get it! And it was like 45 mins into the replay!
It was one of my favorite moments haha forgot about it by the end but glad it was mentioned again.
wait. its was recorded afterwards?
@@SportDCS
Nice one as always
Thanks Enigma, and thanks for making an awesome server that makes stuff like that possible!
Your cinematography and editing are absolutely on point, I look forward to your next videos.
Would totally like to see more videos like this.
that's how it's done, baby.
This was very well done! Love the external view during you flight! If only DCS replay didn't break for me in most of my vids :(
Really great stuff, it's why I love the ECW server so much! These moments are where you can let your aircraft shine, and a lot of sorties are just like that. You have a plan, you miss, you get jumped on by other players, and you get the hell out.
I’m glad you’re on the blue team
I’m only on your team
@@SportDCS ❤️
Congratulations on the video editing, a true masterpiece.
Yes please more ! :) great Video
Really nice video, I enjoyed it a lot.
How have I just now heard of your channel?! Your A-4 content is amazing!!
nice vid. also, i'm glad the jet was added to the server. fits perfectly.
This is fantastic. Gripped me within 30 seconds.
I'm practicing some, aiming to return to Enigma on the A-4E-C. 🙏
Love the cinematography man! Awesome shots.
I loved this. Keep these going!!
Love it. Keep em coming. Using the recorded fights for tips and lessons is great idea
Great video Sport! Looking forward to the next one✌🏽
Really great stuff, Sport.
Nice timing of the beat with the explosion. Cool vid all round, thanks for taking the time to share!
That was so cinematic! Had me on the edge of my seat - well done!
That was awesome!
Just wanna say, your guides have helped me out so much:)
Really like this video. Very well done.
This video was so good that I just dropped a subscribe! Watching, first, the F-86 come out of no where and finish off the Froggie and THEN see that beautiful F-5 engage that F-1 was awesome!
I look forward to more videos like this!
This was awesome!
You deserve 100x the amount of subs you have. Glad I found your channel while looking for tutorials.
Subbed, the quality of this video is outstanding.
Whoah, I remember hearing some of these callouts live on the server. Fantastic video!
Wow what a great video. Cinematics where amazing.
Kudos for the execellent videoagraphy!
Another nice one from you Sport :) Thx Buddy
Loving the A4 content dude
Really love these videos, please do more of them
This style of video is awesome I hope to see more like this
Hey man , realy nice content! I hope to see more of it
Criminally under rated channel.
Genuinely some of the best DCS content i have ever seen, hope you get some more pop soon your editing is crazy!
Great video!
Never thought the TER's added such a big inaccuracy to the drops! It's clearly visible how much the bomb yaws to the right at about the 5:18 mark. Very cool for it to be modeled in DCS, I recall hearing Gabbie on 10 Percent True talk about how he would account for that when dropping BDU-33's on training sorties. Always learning new stuff in this channel, keep it up!
I looked it up, and it’s 4.8 ft/sec ejection velocity. From 3000 feet, the bomb falls for about 6 seconds, so you’re talking 20-25 feet of error you need to account for. I bet if I go back and look at the track again, the distance I missed will be close to that!
awesome editing, great fights. Spotting A-4s is sooooooo hard especially out of the fishbed. See you on the server - slip 2-4
absolutely thrilled to fly this thing in ECW ive already been practicing against some of my friends in dogfights and i can say im very prepared
An interesting tidbit about US Navy A-4s is that most were actually not capable of employing the AIM-9. This excludes the USMC and foreign sales A-4s of course. The only USN A-4 squadron capable of firing Sidewinders was VC-10 based at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The last variant they flew was the TA-4J from 1975 until the unit disbanded in 1993. The sole reason they could carry the AIM-9 was in the unlikely event that Cuban forces attacked the base. The A-4s would be a stopgap until reinforcements and better suited aircraft arrived.
Great video and thanks for posting.
Excellent editing. Good video 😀
Started flying the A4E today and your tutorials have brought me up to speed in no time great content! keep it up... by the way from 8:20 I was on the edge of my seat very cinematic!
Terrific video, great flying and very well done. Was thinking in the prologue that the Mig-21 actually accomplished his mission in that the A-4 had to jettison its weapons and abort its attack. Although I'm guessing getting killed wasn't part of the plan. Love to see more.
what a landing. more a4 please. i glad you corrected yourself about the drop
Amazing cinematics!! Please do more.
awesome video, handy tip your doppler radar tells you the wind directio and speed, plus the drift angle is the angle you need to offset for the wind, also the ejection velocity should be accounted for in the bombing computer, plus the wing pylons will also eject the bombs
So I should have clarified more. The TERs add a horizontal component of velocity when they eject the bombs, it’s not straight down like if it’s just a single bomb on a pylon. Both bombs were dead nuts on for distance, but both landed nearly an equal distance laterally, which correlated with the side of the TER they were ejected from.
@@SportDCS because of this would you go back to putting the mk83 on the wings since the mk20 doesn't need as much accuracy?
@@Taipan303 100% yes. It was frustrating when that first bomb missed when I know it was a really good drop.
Youre the one who makes me train that Scooter to - one day - join the ECW! Ty for the content! o7
Alsom would LOVE to see high drag strike on a convoy \ base\ ship. * w *
awesome !!!
Cool video!
very awesome vid
Loved it! Huge fan of the a-4 and your editing was amazing. Did you add sound effects for the bullets barely missing you on your dive? It sounded really good. Would love to see more like this!!!
I did. I’ll add some sound effects and other small visual effects in post processing to help add to the story. Movie magic! Glad you enjoyed!
@@SportDCS Do you use VR or track IR? Do you record while you fly or go back and use the tracks? Obviously for external views you use the tracks but how about in the the cockpit?
@@WanganuiWildcat so I record live for the in-cockpit stuff. So you can hear anything I’m saying in real time as well as other player comms. I use Track IR for everything, too. Internal and external recordings. It gives a very good authentic feel to framing
Please make more of these!
How about an airstrip strike with High drag mk82s?
Top quality video
I KNOW THAT HIGHWAY BUILDING!! First time I played Enigma's on Syria as Red I went to one of the map markers and found a friggin building just sitting in the middle of the friggin highway lmao.. I was in a MiG-19 though so I only had 2 teeny bombs, still managed to kill one of the vehicles that sits next to it though. It was so weird and surprising seeing that for the first time though. Enemy placement is so weird in most servers.
taxiing a4 was me lol
Yes, more 😮
good editing, would love to see that landing tutorial as everyone else who attempted to show that off smash a4 into the ground rather than land properly ;)
I can has more?! I love the A4. Enigma Cold War server is one of my top 3, actually my fav right now.
That was the fastest 10min of my life !! Nice one.
I would like to ask you to do a video on the graphics setup so i can see another plane like you can. Thx
Spotting is TOUGH, but then again it is in real life too. I play on a 1440p (2k) 27” monitor. Most of my settings are all high or ultra and on ECW I’m getting 40-80fps.
This is a movie 🍿
bravo. bravo
I wish DCS got more content like this. I'm always running out of stuff to watch 😅
a DCS free mod that is as good as the best paid modules. It's amazing!
Try to hit the AA first (to make follow up attacks easier) and save the barracks for last. The barracks are there to help others spot the ground targets more easily. If you kill them first, you are making it more difficult to spot for yourself and for others.
Exactly! It's very annoying when I drop a Mk20 on the surrounding units and it clips the barracks a little bit...
Great point! However, I found I rather get the Mk83s off the airplane first and get that instant performance boost. The Shilkas don’t scare me too much, and I try to limit my time in their engagement envelope when I’m on my runs.
"Marvel transitions are the best", also DCS Sport: 4:02
Hooooolly this should be screened in cannes
👏👏👏
Would love a tutorial on using the Shrike and ECM/Countermeasures.
Your ability to track targets with your head (VR or TrackIR?) is incredible. If you use TrackIR, could you do a quick video on your TrackIR settings?
please come back to us soon! u gotta do this kind of stuff for the F4
Mirage trying to kill an A-4? How un-sports-manlike.
nice vid! How do you get these call outs? I only ever see the Text-EWR on the top right, but no voice.
I'd like to share what load-out works for me and may for you as well. I got this from another youtuber I can't remember his name. 2 x 1000 lbs Mk.83 on center fuselage pylon and 4 x AIM 9P on the wing pylons. Why? I set ripple timer to 250 ms and use ground radar + computer to drop on ECW bases. This way I get to drop 2 potent bombs on a base ensuring some destruction and then I quickly disengage and proceed to air to air or rearm, depends on situation. For some reason I do better a2a in A-4 than in F-5. The reason why this works for me is that if I spend too much time on multiple passes on one base, being focused just on ground, losing SA, I became sitting duck for enemies. Now I just make one drop and disappear and go hunt Fishbeds or Frogfoots. A-4 is so nimble and can maintain energy so well that I can easily reverse most of red force planes, pull them into the HUD and get a sidewinder off the rails. Although be aware that you have way less trust than any other red force plane so you can't do that forever.
How do you record 3rd person clips in a multiplayer server?
You can open the track file in the mission editor and adjust the mission settings to allow external views in the replay
Does thr cold war server have a particular year or decade it is trying to portray in terms of lineup, or just making the best of it?
Man i wish they would do the kahu updated A4, f16 Rader mfd's ,agm65s
I really want to try DCS.
Title: A4 commits war crimes with white phosphorus and aviation enthused air show attendees.
Hello, sports are you planning to make a video about how not to die on Enigma's Cold War as an A-4? I'm asking you this because I got murked by a MiG-21 10 minutes ago.
How do you move the F4 camera around? I've been trying to do it using RCtrl + RShift + numpad but it doesn't work. Is it a bug or something?
I’m not sure of any bugs, but that’s how I move the camera around personally. Maybe something has changed in the last open beta? I’ll give a look sometime soon
@@SportDCS so you just enable external camera of the ECW replay and then when you run it somehow it works?
@@GenRax Yep!
@@SportDCS thank you! Really appreciate it!
@@SportDCS one last question. Do you use Client Track or Server Track file for recording? Where do I can get the server track files?
Good stuff, very cool video - just isnt the idea of LABS bombing that you dont fly over the target ? 😊 its more toss bombing than dive bombing
You’re absolutely right, but we don’t have LABS modeled in the DCS A-4, unfortunately. The bombing computer is like a first gen CCRP
@@SportDCS Ahh ok interesting ty
I cannot get this module to load in DCS for the life of me
Something quite ugly and at the same time cute about the A4. That and the F5, MiG19 and the forthcoming F4 Phantom might drag me away from IL2 and back to DCS. Not that there is anything wrong with DCS, but my rig doesn't like it. But it really pops with IL2 GB.
Bro that 86 really gonna come in and steal the kill like that. What an absolute dick. I hate people like that.
and where is he to help with the Mirage?... Oh yeah, you didn't hit it with a missile or damage it first. He only wants to swoop in when the fight is already won.
That was awesome!
