They've put years to making the physics engine make combat flight feel realistic so coding a good shooter-/strategy-game inside it must not be easy.

For flight sims, as you travel so much faster, you need a bigger map, so you have to have a lower detail level to make the maps manageable memory/performance wise. I think a better analogy would be those 'toy' maps in Counter-Strike. Those maps are a single room, usually a bedroom, where you can pack a lot more detail into a single room. Now imagine you put that scale into full-size Counter-Strike maps, where you now have full-size and toy-scale Counter-Strike going on at the same time. Either the maps will have to be stripped of so much detail that the toy-scale gets much less interesting, or the maps will get exponentially larger. Having different physics engines in DCS isn't an issue, as it already has that. Since pretty much the beginning, DCS World has had a basic, advanced, and 'professional' flight models running side-by-side for different modules. The biggest issue is how much work they want to put into vehicles and Combined Arms, and really doing it right would take a lot of work, IMHO. ED does seem to take a somewhat balanced approach considering how much work would be required to improve something, as well as how important that improvement would be to the community. And I don't think CA gets a lot of love from the community, although that might change as it gets better.

But I do know their engine is built in a modular way, and different physics engines can be plugged in. While I agree a new physics engine would need to be plugged in, I don't think there is anything to prevent that if the *will* is there for them to do it. For ED to implement this, it is a purely a question for them of cost/benefit analysis. Also, there can be performance impacts for handling ground vehicle movement (at least when they are moving) in a more realistic way, although I don't know if it would be significant or not. Flight simulation is incredibly more complex than ground physics, at least if you try to approximate it realistically. While most people don't realize it, real flight dynamics are based on fluid dynamics, which you can't do really accurately on a home PC, just for one airplane. I only know of one flight sim title that even attempted fluid dynamics, in a very simplified way to reduce overhead, which was the original Flight Unlimited. Most flight sims use performance tables for approximation.

Spoilers for Ace Combat 7 Mister X (Mihaly A. Shilage.) Did survive at the end of the game. Though his injuries made him retiring from flying fighter jets. So he must miraculously have made a full recovery here.
I love doing a version of this on 4ya, rooting for the AI to knock out players. Watched a guy dogfight an F-4 in his F-15 that had been modded to carry six AIM-54s. He was down on the deck, turning and burning, trying to hard. In the mean time the AI F-4 killed two player F/A-18s. Just about died laughing.
I would do this on the Fraternity map. Would take me 2-3 hours to cross the map with some tanks and then systematically start destroying farps and airbases. I never got booted from the server, so I figured all was good. lol One particular time I hid in some trees just off a runway and shot jets taking off just as they were rotating.
Can Ralfi not see the countdown timer telling him when he'll acquire the target? "Why can I not lock? LOCK, already! Why is this taking so long?!" Meanwhile, the bottom left of his screen is showing him he's still got 15-20 seconds left before target acquisition. ...hahaha Ralfi, I love you, but y u no read?!
Just imagine if this module (Combined Arms) was even better, more fleshed out, more detailed, how much fun anyone could have with it and how much more it would bring to the game in terms of ground warfare with the support of the air boys ! Ever since i bought it, i've only be wishing to see it get upgrades, slowly but surely i hope, either way, great module that unfortunately too many people don't know much about, the potential it has if used properly !
It always annoys me that I see AI act dumb and stationary in the open in the videos I see. Actual tactics and doctrine are not even attempted to be mimicked. Players just wanting a shooting gallery. I would very much like to see more of this.
When the 'hog is bearing down the best method is to just eyeball that stuff in, don't wait for the lock. I've never run Tac Commander on an ARM enabled server (yet) so I wonder if turning off the radar would've saved you in particular from some of those sidearm hits.

I haven't enjoyed a ralfi video in a long time... but this was a blast. I do a lot of CA and CA oriented scenarios and this is just so fun to do for me. If you can get people salt even better. Hopefully CA gets more attention out of this. We pretty much had a synchronized laugh there at the end with the shilka. Oh, turn on your stabilizer (Default "V" on the keyboard, you will see the chevron on top of the compass rose go red, meaning it is active).
Could you imagine playing a game against an AI and then all the sudden it does something like drive and an aa tank into the trees so I can't be locked onto. I would freak the freak out and shut the game down. The AI is learning
