clawdeen's hair being extremely flexible is super lore-relevant, considering she's a werewolf and lots of more natural/closer-to-wolf dog breeds shed and regrow so fast that it would be super reasonable for werewolves like clawdeen to be able to do whatever she wnats with her hair.

In one of her diaries I'm pretty sure she rocks a shaved head look at one point and says something about how it'll grow back out in a week so, yeah

I read one or two of the books inspired by the lore, there she had fur that would grow back every month to the point of it looking like a full fur coat. I like to imagine that her hair just grows out super far every full moon and she can easily change it up around that time
I love that Monster High is getting a reboot but my main problem is that the "monster" aspect seems to be toned down in the new dolls. Frankie and Clawdeen look actually younger than their original dolls because their faces are so "smooth" and lack any... well "monstrousness" and look so similar.

Also, "I don't want to copy it directly. This isn't Rainbow High after all" was such a funny line. (Probably because it's true LOL)
These redesigns are so cute! Each matches the character's personality so well! Clawdeen is fierce, Frankie is super unique with asymmetry, and Draculaura is a sweet Victorian girl! Since Drac has always been my fav, I can confirm that I'd buy her in a heartbeat. I love lolita j-fashion plus my favorite colors are pink and black
You did a wonderful job. I've been kinda bummed out on MH after the initial release of the Haunt Coutore dolls so this was a much needed pick-me-up. As a Clawdeen superfan, I would definitely buy that doll. Braids, dramatic makeup, pants, and those boots? *chefs kiss* I love that the boots resembles animal paws. Have they even done that before? It's a really fantastic idea. Thank you for this walk down a freaky fashionable lane. 🐺 💜

Fun fact: I also love to draw and redesigning characters from TMNT, Mario, Sonic, etc has been a big thing for me in recent years so I love any excuse to see people reinterpret pre-established characters. I would love to see more content like this from you if you ever have the time for it!

Looking at the final shot of the three of them together you can really get a sense for each girl's style and I'd definitely have my eye on getting them as a set! I also really like your characterization ideas, especially Draculaura trying to do things a Victorian/Edwardian teen would have done.
Random idea I had while watching this- what if a line like Monster High did something like Holiday Barbie but for Halloween?
I have something to confess. So, for the past 2 months, I’ve been having it pretty rough. Like, *really* rough. I’m not really into dolls that much (at least not since I was a child) but I saw Darling’s iceberg video get recommended to me, so I got curious and watched it. To my surprise, I really enjoyed it! In fact, I started watching other vids, and I found they cheered me up, for some reason. That say a lot because nothing was really cheering me up. There’s just something about Darling Dollz’s chill and funny vibe and commentary. After that I just started binging this channel, began getting into dolls, even bought a few! I’m surprised this channel is new, it’s super good and the uploads are consistent. I really enjoy all of this content. Keep it up, Darling Dollz! :D

Oh these designs are so rad I love them. Frankie's asymmetry is fantastic, and that clamp for a hairclips is absolutely clever. Clawdeen might be my favorite, though. The color palette is so good, especially with all the different moon accessories. She looks so cool and in charge. I'd definitely get these as actual dolls!
Honestly, I love all these! Clawdeen is definitely my favorite but Frankie's is really cute, too! I never really picked up on how often Frankie's outfits are made to resemble school uniforms -- do you think it's because Frankie is the new student at Monster High in most iterations and she's basically the narrative aspect that helps establish the school as a setting?
I can't wait to see more of these! I love your explanations of why you chose different style elements, and they come together super cohesively to make an outfit that makes sense. I hope you do more!

Oooo !! These are amazing. Frankie has to be my favorite. I really hope for the reboot they pay more attention to Frankie’s scaritage like more lab themed accessories (like the volt amp hair clip). She is everything and the mismatched style suits her so so well especially with the red. I think we need a Frankie doll with some sort of mismatched shoes, would be such a look. Draculaura absolutely ate and she definitely suits a fusion of sweet and gothic Lolita. I personally wonder about all her clothes in the original series. Since she canonically has clothes from all the time she was alive, I always wondered why they didn’t switch up her style more from time to time, especially that she didn’t get an I heart fashion doll. Clawdeen with protective hairstyles and more textured hair would be amazing. I really hope it’s something they do for her or if not her at least some of her siblings (like howleen, as her original Afro-hawk style was so cool and needed before Mattel straightened her hair and turned it pink :/). So excited for the new reboot and praying that it finally does the MH legacy justice and isn’t a repeat of the 2016 “Dread-boot”.
The designs came out so good! I really love the idea of this becoming a little series on your channel and I liked that you didn’t include full speed paints of each design.
I would buy these in a heartbeat! I’d really love so see how you update the other characters if you do this again. Honestly I’ve always wanted to see a classic Greek/ Olympian inspired outfit for Duce. Mansters always seemed to get the short end of the stick in the design department. (Greek mythology inspired character that is an athlete, classic Olympian should have been a no brainer.)
OMG I loved this! I had no idea you were an artist until this week. These designs are super cute and I'd love to see more. I'm an illustrator and designer too so it's fun to hear opinions and thought process on dolls from a fellow creative. That makes sense why you are so communicative about what works and what doesn't work in your doll videos. Yeah I'd love more vids like this!

I love all of these designs so much. Frankie’s shoes look sick! I think her outfit is my favorite. A heavily lolita look for Drac is so perfect. I think white lace on top of the socks would have made it look more complete.

Clawdeen looks AMAZING. I think I would give her dread cuffs for some hair accessories and maybe flare her pants at the bottom since I feel like sweats are falling out of favor after being so common for so many recent years. Maybe have her hair fade to a lighter tone or make her roots dark. If her hair grows fast, she should be allowed to do more risky (or damaging) things with it since she won’t be stuck with it for long. Obsessed with the pants pattern and the top especially though. Really great job
If you don’t do other characters, I’d at least want to see more ideas for Clawdeen!
Totally agreed about Clawdeen! (And Drac- my biggest regret I think is leaving her wrists bare 😅) but if I were to do future Clawdeen looks, there absolutely would be way more hair colors. Cuffs are also a great idea! A lot of the OMG dolls with braids have them, so they're definitely viable on doll-scale 🤔
I love these redesigns!!! Redesigning characters is so much fun, I redesigned Miraculous Ladybug characters once and it was so much fun! I love being able to see you draw- but I fully understand the nervous feeling you get when recording yourself draw lol
YESSSSSS UR DESIGNS ARE SO GOOD! I already have very similar ideas on what the reboot could have done in terms of modernizing the ghouls.
For Frankie I definitely agree with he whole punk/prep aesthetic and the patched together, chaotic wardrobe. She is experimental and inexperienced as a person and I love that you reflect that in her design.
For Draculaura I looooove that you went for a Japanese inspo. Canonically when she visited Japan, she blended in very well and loved the fashion scene so it makes sense to keep that aesthetic, plus her whole “Victorian but youthful and bright” aesthetic definitely could translate to a ton of Japanese subcultures!
And CLAWDEEN IS SO COOL! I headcanon her as a girl who thrifts and makes her own clothes since she has a strong love for fashion and I doubt her family has a lot of money to spend on clothes (I’m pretty sure she has stated she has 10 brothers besides Claude, and there is howleen and clawdia) so it makes sense for her to experiment with budget friendly/DIY outfits. I definitely see her as a dark glam girl who enjoys Y2K type of fashion (even if it’s a modern adaptation she needs to be y2k) so this design is so her.
Overall ur designs were great and I hope you make more vids like this for the other ghouls (and maybe some of the guys? I think you would have fun designing deuce lol)
Your art is SO cute!!! I love the breakdown of your choices n how they don't stray super far from the original designs but make things new and fresh! I CANNOT wait to see what you do with the other characters from the rest of the main cast like Cleo/Ghoulia/Deuce AND maybe even one off characters from other lines, like the great scarrier reef mermaids and Goolioppe!
I didn't know you were an artist! This was a cool video, I love seeing people explain their design processes.
I think if you would have added E-Girl inspired aspects to Draculaura (like chains, fishnet under shirts and stockings, studded Mary Janes, hair clips, and maybe even a leather jacket or a jacket with patches). But only softly done, so if doesn’t over power the Lolita style. And Cameo accessories, because I love them, maybe even a backpack/purse in the shape of an stuff animal. Might come off more childlike with more mature accents, but that makes me think of her. She’s a romantic and sometimes submissive (in situations), but in Friday Night Fights, where she and Clawd are talking and he give her the ultimatum to either quit the team or break up with him and she does the latter, I really saw she’s more than submissive and honestly is one of my fav MH moments. So giving her soft E-Girl inspired looks with the Lolita look would mimic her personality. Maybe even have Lita shoes, since she is shorter. Also I think they should make her smaller and some other characters taller or curvier or petite.
Howleen did too. She had her curly updo in her first doll (which is the best look she’s ever had) then a pink straight look, so I can see Clawdeen having similar looks. I think her first new look should be twists of dreads, because Mattel hasn’t don’t much of those and I think Clawdeen is more laid back with her hair, while Howleen is more experimental.
I think it would be cool if she had pants like Seulgi (of kpop group Red Velvet) in the Bad Boy ear. They are red and a little baggy, but the best part is the calf part and the top part are separated, held by garters, showing parts of her legs. I also could see her wearing a fishnet body suit or a under shirt inspired by Marine Serre's Crescent Moon bodysuits. I think the leather would pop out like that. I also think she could wear nose rings as well. I think the best thing she should have is a really cool shoe. I think older and newer ones. Like some by Jeffery Campbell (mostly the studded kind) and maybe even this fuzzy clog heels that this kpop artist Ahin (from Momoland land) had on in this mv called Okay. She had more than one look, but it was a white dress with some Looney Tunes character, and the top and bottom hand the same fuzzy material. Not for this outfit, but the fuzzy clogs would look cool with a Y2K inspired fashion, a la Euphoria Maddy like outfits.

I’d really love to see Toralei’s fashion updates. She has ok fashion, but compared to the rest, her outfits feel bleh. Not bad, but could be better. So there is this kpop group (I do get inspired by kpop fashion, but I feel it’s a bit out there and I think it’d be cool to see more of MH having out there fashion) named Mamamoo and there are two outfits I think would look cool on Toralei.
The first is in their Music Video Hip. Member Solar has on a pants/shorts that have cute outs that show the hips and on the legs, if stops like shorts, but it has straps on them that travel all over the legs and a there is this jacket thing (I mostly sleeves with a collar) from antier music video called Voltage by Itzy worn by Lia that would look cool, having a top under it with laces tied top under it with doc martens. Kind of give her some combat-esqe look that also is a little tomboy.
The second is a second MV called GogoBebe by Mamamoo with member Moonbyul wearing a pink jump suit (that looks like a mechanic outfit, but not as bland and it’s pink) I think it would be cool to see her in one like that, but red with studs if something on it and her orange scarf, I think it could look cool and with orange boots. I think Mattel is tomboyphobic, because they never really make dolls like that at all (except for the dark skin fashions with the curly under cut, purple tank top, jean shorts, and yellow sneakers). I think they need to show different kinds of styles, especially shorter hair and less form fitting clothing, because it’s kinda sad that Toralei seems to be a bit tomboy, but none of her fashion shoes it (hers looks a little generic 2010’s fashion).
This is absolutely amazing! I would totally buy these as dolls.
What I really like about these designs is that they're different, but just similar enough for people to recognize them. (and they're not too 'childish' like the gen. 2 doll lines)
You can definitely tell their personalities just be looking at them, it's an important element in the animation industry, which makes the designs perfect for dolls and animation.

your designs are sooo precious and i love the little details about the ways the girls' fashion reflects aspects of their personality and all these endearing little quirks. i think the frankie design was my fav just in terms of the art but clawdeens was the one i think id be most excited to see become a real doll.
I adore redesign videos, also I'm so glad I got to see your artwork it's so beautiful. I'd love to see how you'd redesign the other ghouls, but also other doll lines, I think its so interesting to see other people's perspectives within the constraint of a character.

I absolutely love these redesigns, I've seen a lot of MH redesigns lately and these are the best ones I've seen so far. Gorgeous, fits the characters and it perfectly encapsulates a modern version of the original homage to alternative fashion. Honestly, and I don't say this lightly, they are better than the original outfits in my eyes
I love this idea! I love to see redesigns and it's clear you can point out what makes each character identifiable - so I'd be down to see you do as much of the MH cast as you're willing!

Okay but these are elite and you should be hired for character design if they ever do a (new, new) reboot. You nailed every aesthetic, added more flare than I thought was possible because they're already so flared. The detail is impossibly fantastic!!!
I love the idea of Frankie not really knowing, experimenting and wearing odd socks and stitched up half-shirts. I love that you made her hairclip one of those electrical clip thingys🤣
I think it's such a clever idea that Draculaura would have Victorian mannerisms!!! That's when the hype of Vampires was born because of the gothic period. She looks so cute!
And omggg Clawdeeeeen!!! I adore her look! Yeah you can definitely tell she's the trend setting fashionista of the group XD And aahh omfg the lunar-cycle chain😍 and oh I looooove the idea of her hair! Like it grows at an alarming rate because of her werewolf nature, so she can do all sorts with it!

These videos are getting me back into dolls, I'm 15 and stopped playing with them when I was 12 or 11. But now that I'm older I think I might get myself a couple, I love the idea of dressing up the dolls and combing their hair, it just seems so cool and relaxing.

I adore the lolita style on my girl Draculaura, and the dog collar + moon phases + paw boots on Clawdeen were so smart!! I think your shoes look great too, even Frankie's ☺️

All your ideas fit so perfectly with each character; I especially love the stitched-together mismatched “Frankensteined” idea for Frankie showing through in her clothes rather than her body, and the direct Angelic Pretty influence in Draculaura!
4:20 honestly that is very fitting, if I’m not mistaken in the first wave with one of her diary entries she is said to be 15 days old so I could see her maybe running into a library or a second hand bookstore and finding older magazines😌 it’d be cute seeing her having a different style every other day til she finds her preferred style❤️

I think sweet lolita was a good choice for Draculaura given her overall aesthetic and I assume personalitywise too? Not super familiar with monster high just a fake doll fan lurking on your videos for a while now. But now I REALLY wanna see an old school gothic Draculaura. Something about her pink tickles the same area in my brain that Mana in Moi-même-Moitié's electric blue does.
And the paw shoes and electric clamp hair accessory? Inspired, phenomenal, I cant get enough.
These are so good! And also don't worry about your art style, imo it fits MH really well, could totally imagine it to be the new reboot art style! Also it would be really fun to see more of this kind of video, like you could try designing specific lines MH hasn't done before: like a Theatre Class line or a Dream Career line or something

so apparently the green skin and bolts on the neck are details dropped from frankie because the og frankie was designed in collaboration with universal and they have *tight* control over their depiction of frankenstein's monster(the boris karloff version)

As soon as you mentioned Drac having wrist cuffs I could see them on her, maybe with a lacy spider web design and a bow that looks like a bat. Also I love love love the idea of Frankie having a quirky slightly off fashion sense that somehow looks amazing, she approaches fashion like a mad scientist. I can see the hair clamp being something that was lying around her house and she used it as a quick way to put her hair up and it actually looked good so she kept it.
I love your designs, really great, you've inspired me to maybe to my own versions of Monster high, keep doing what your doing.

Oh i love your frankie design! Personally I wasn't as into her shirt, but I loved what you did with her hair and lower outfit! The hair clip really was a nice touch and so creative! Because I'm working on a MH reboot version of my own and I drew clawdeens sketch with braids as well! Great minds think alike it seems! Out of all the three, draculaura was my favourite!

i think its interesting that you added the extra caveat that the designs not only have to be able to made into an actual doll they also have to be able to do that at a playline pricepoint! pretty much all the other MH redesigns ive seen ignore the doll part of fashion doll, so its nice you’re including it in your designs!

I really like these designs! If I had any gripe, I’d personally say Clawdeen’s pants should be a deeper purple akin to her skirt in original design, but it looks good regardless

I really love Frankie she's my favorite. But if you want advice from me ( my opinion I hope I'm not being rude) I think clawdine should have a high ponytail because I think leaving her hair free makes it blander and also draculaura is great ! But maybe you could make her more longer more puffier sleeves ? ( Just my opinion you drawing is still great tho- i can only draw a stickman 😭)

Tbh ever since I heard you mention the idea of an Eilonwy disney collector doll (don't remember the specific video) I couldn't get it out of my head? Also when you've mentioned being dissapointed by Alice collector dolls designs. idk it might be fun to see how you'd design a disney collector dolls yourself is what I mean.
