- lagoona is here and i'm so happy with how she came out and yeah I get the reboot is for a different audience thats not what upsets me what upsets me in the lack of trying to make something that needed a bit of help and turning it into the same old waters down thing like kids are not stupid they deserve what we had which was helpful lessons about loving our selves and being kind not the preschool farts are funny version

Same. The original will forever be my favorite. I miss owning those dolls, especially Lagoona.
I believe the reason she is now pink is due to a copyright issue (same goes for Frankie) the collab they did with Warner or whoever owns the rights to those monsters only applied to like G1 and 2 but not 3 so they had to change it

I'm glad you are very happy with your re-designs of Lagoona
A lot of it are becoming fart jokes and I'm like... it's funny every now and then, but the comedic aspect is lost when don't constantly. Like I feel like I'm going to be one of those parents who constantly monitors what my children watch. Not that I'd complain because cartoons are nice, but just hopeful good things will be out by then for them
As an Australian, i feel like they kinda should've just completely scrapped Lagoona and gave the character a different name instead of changing everything but her name. I think a lot of Indigenous Australians head-cannoned Lagoona as Aboriginal, so the change feels like an extra downer for them.
I REALLY love your design tho! This makes me wish the original show used her more.
The reboot is a another universe, its basically AU's to the shows
I think G3 Lagoona looks like her pink sister Kelpie and I wish they just flat out focused on another actual generation of the characters.

I really don’t understand the decision to make her from Honduras, if they wanted the diversity, like you said Australia has a non white aboriginal population. It’s a group that doesn’t get a ton of representation as it is so it’s a little strange they couldn’t have just keyed in on that.
Facts
Lagoona was my favorite Monster High character in the main cast growing up! Seconded only by Jackson Jekyll and Holt Hyde. Still kind of salty that they wasted his story and the character he's based on in the crappy life action movie. Not to mention the weird liberties they took for G3, the main point of the original Monster High is that you are welcome no matter what and while some people did have their biases in the school it was always the students and never the staff. Even though it's been a while I don't think the staff in G1 ever belittled Jackson for being a normie.

I love this design, and I agree that its such a shame to lose all that personality and lore that was in G1. After all the slogan is

Right I dont even think there bringing back the orgianl message of the show anymore plus thats a slogan that'll never get old especially now a days
@@LovesArt23 they actually are bringing back the slogan, it was used on multiple official promotional shots for the dolls and i believe chanted like a school spirit song in the commercial! that aside though, i personally really like Lagoona's design in g2, because after all they're not the same characters they were in g1, and she never felt sporty enough to me outside of her signature! so i'm glad to see she's at least still wearing sporty clothing :) with that being said, I also like your design, so maybe i'm just easy to please haha.
Brazillian girl here, I saw some people on the internet praising gen 3 because according to them the racebending made it so inclusive, while also saying that the original had bad representation because the characters were stereotypical.
While I agree that characters like Skelita were a little stereotypical, I wouldn't call the new Lagoona an amazing representation. Skelita had an actual effort put into her, she had an interesting design, a captivating personality, etc. She didn't need the glory of a previous white character to thrive.
Meanwhile the new Lagoona is just some lazy colorswaped version. Instead of researching monsters from different cultures and making interesting characters, with interesting personalities and backstorys, they just went for a lazy racebending. And are still being praised for such a "progressive" move.
It's ridiculous.

MH literally had monsters from EVERY part of the world, even when most of they were based in popular concept, they had their own unique style, design and personality. They applied representation and diversity even before that concepts were an important theme like nowaday.

I totally agree, I remember that when I was a little girl I loved those designs although they were "stereotyped" they were very beautiful even when Marisol Coxi came out I was so happy because I had never seen a character from my country in an animated series or a series in general
She is not brazilian. I get that that is not your point but please don't speak like she was designed to represent you. She is a indigenous honduran and I can confirm that the casual clothes and SANDALS are very common in honduran girls. I DO FEEL very represented by her and I understand that her design is not heavily inspired by Honduras culture, but I wouldn't like that either bc they probably would base her entire personality on being a stereotype like some g1 monsters.
the problem is that these designs are made by adult who think they know what teens and kids like and want + they are made exclusively to sell as dolls
personally i love the original ones, these new ones are just "aw lets makes these tiktok popular girls cause these dumb 14 yo girls are going crazy buying our stuff"
anyway, LOVED THE REDESIGN! you always rock on these redesigns and actually manage to translate what the character is meant to be!
Yes exactly this whole new line is just a cash grab and using the old name like a brand but its just adults thinking they know what kids like when the original creator actually went above and beyond by asking girls that the dolls where made for to show him and his team what girls back then liked they went to the mall and actually talked them instead of having them look at the dolls and say yes or no
As an Australian who grew up during the monster high era all the media I consumed was either American, Canadian or British. And IF and Australian actor was onscreen they were either played as a joke or hiding their accent to portray an American character to blend in with the American cast.
So as kid who watched monster high I always thought Lagoona was so cool. In retrospect I can see all her stereotypes written into her character and the terrible accent from gen 1 but instead of improving this when creating gen 3 the creators decided it was too hard and replaced her nationality. I understand the want for Latina rep but instead of working with what they had or creating something new they replaced another monster’s nationality. Which is what upsets me the most.
For a new generation about diversity they sure had no problem getting rid of (to my knowledge) the only Australian character’s heritage instead of using the three Latina characters they already or creating a new character entirely to fill that role.
I’m so glad Australian media like Bluey is reaching people internationally so that kids don’t have to grow up feeling insecure about their nationality.
I wish they made her Aboriginal Australian. Maybe it would require more work, but it would help her retain her original nationality while also giving rep to an underrepresented minority
Yeah, that would’ve been great. As an aboriginal Australian kid myself we have basically no representation in the media. I remember how exited I was when i saw jasmine in total drama.

@@LovesArt23 Clawdeen Wolf is one of my favorite Monster High characters, and i really didn't like her reboot design when i first saw it. They made her look like a middle school nerd werewolf girl, like why did her dirty? 😭

You had mentioned that it was weird how not monstery Lagoona looked, and honestly I agree, but that was probably on purpose because Lagoona wasn't actually fully sea monster in G1. Her mother was actually a sea nympth, which is why she looks different then the other members of her family. That art you showed of the whole family is actually the G2 family if I'm remembering correctly.
The blonde hair was also weird for me, like it never made sense for me that the pool bleaches blue steaks in her hair? I like the fandom idea of her hair actually being blue and the pool bleaching it blonde.
Well actually the picture she showed of Lagoona’s family was actually from generation 1. It was in the movie “The Great Scarrier Reef” and it was a scene in the flashback Lagoona had of when her stage fright first started. The camera panned over to her family, so it was her G1 family.

Oh my gosh, I love this version of Lagoona!! She looks just like I imagine her to be, sporty and friendly and just kinda chill. All the colors and water-themed things on her are so FUN, she doesn’t look scary but I think that’s what unique about her. She’s like the cooler version of the modern view of mermaids rather than the evil Sirens in old myths. Amazing design
tbh i figured they made her pink and her legs translucent to lean more towards an axolotl aesthetic, especially since they made her latina and axolotls originated from mexico (not to mention axolotls are really popular right now 🤔) that being said, if that *was* the case, i wish they dove into that more instead of just painting her pink and leaving her at that lol

My favourite is Toralei Stripe, and apparently the doll version has... long hair? It's quite suprising in my opinion.

It was good for its time a few bumps bug thats to ve expected though if youve seen mlp friendship is magic its kinda got that vide though a bit more gothic

Man, I honest to god wish dolllightful did commissions (I could've sworn she did some a while ago. But remaking dolls is a massive challenge [I've tried, and yikes]), cuz honestly , I'd love to see this design remade on a Lagoona doll
Yeah I watch her all the time and I'm like how like it looks crazy hard but she does it so well I'm like there's no way I can do that XD but she does do swap dolls where she and other doll designer's make a doll with out telling the other what there doing and mail it to them
and etellan! she did a whole series revamping most of the g1 main characters (frankie, draculaura, clawdeen, cleo, lagoona and ghoulia) and they lookedso cute
Lagoona was always a fav since I’m an Australian and media containing Australian characters when I was younger was pretty scarce so it was fun to have a character I could relate to in a way.
I was hella disappointed when I saw the reboots design making her look like an Ariana grande rip off. It just felt cheap and like it was trying to fit in with the new and popular styles which was practically what og monster high avoided and what drew my attention to the show in the first place.
Your design is very cool, I’m a huge fan of inhuman characters and I love how much of the monster side you added to her and I’m in love with the whole blue iris and the skin ombré you did! Amazing vid!
I absolutely love this redesign! I’m not sure if it was intentional or not, but the wave patterns actually helped called back to Lagoona being Australian.
As an Australian one of the fashion brands I grew up with, and see all the time, is Billabong! They make sportswear and their logo is of a wave like the pattern on her clothes. It was just really cool to see :>

When you referenced the side ghouls like Marisoul and Kiyomi I remembered why the original was so wonderful and diverse. I really miss those designs now. I like some of the aspects they did for the reboot. Many I have seen artist redesign in between g1 and g2.
I wish it was toned down in color with more black. I wish characters outfits and voices were more expressive. I like aspects of Frankie, Cleo looks great, Draculara seems really cool personality wise, I wish she had more black in her outfits though. The ones they really missed with was Lagoona, Clawdeen and Torelie. Just way to watered down
Tbh I think someone on the design team for G3 believed Nymphs (Lagoona’s mom’s a water nymph if I remember right) and Fairies were the same thing when they aren’t. Hence where the Justice shopping spree for her came from. As for the Australian to Latina… I would of preferred just giving one of the three that already existed spotlight. (I’m partial to Skelita since she’s bffs with Clawdeen lol)
I love blue Lagoona so much and I hate that so many newer fans are absolutely dragging the shit out of blue Lagoona fans? I hate the pink dolls so much and the ombré legs makes me not want to buy her at all. You can’t dislike or critique anything from this gen without everyone saying you’re stuck in the past and saying a lot of … choice words. I agree with you so much, and I think your design is so cute ❤

Yes I hate the RH kids coming to collect MH that will want something else next year and not even care bout it telling EVERYONE else what to do when what they really just want is their RH so I hope MGA makes something to lure them back then Mattel realizes what is REALLY selling is the OG so brings back the OG though I kinda want a Finnegan doll before G3 dies off cause it will sooner then later it lacks that certain something OG MH had last reboot lasted bout 2 years that’s what I give this one IF that the cartoon wasn’t on this week so that was weird. Draculaura is the best doll they got. The butchered my ghoul Lagoona I have pink Lagoona I tried liking her I REALLY did I do not. I just want ANY reason to make her blue I love her new leg fin design and her ears the blue legs isn’t even working cause her paint chips off. I kinda hope they do a 13 wishes thing with her not that obviously BUT some reason like that story line to just make a blue Lagoona and see how it sells.

Girl, i'm with you. I HATE LAGOONA G3 DESIGN. Mattel, you massacred my girl... I love your redesign.
Lagoona was my favorite monster high girl. Despite purple being my favorite color, when me and my sister bought our one and only monster high dolls as kids, I got Laguna instead of Clawdeen. I loved her cool little fish hands, her weirdly big eyes, her blue skin, and her pretty hair. Which ever Lagoona I got was not the original costume from what I can remember, but I don’t remember which one it was. Most of the other reboot characters although missing the classic Gothic style or at least excusable, but this one was a complete and utter murder of the original character. My favorite thing about was that she was levelheaded and was sort of the mom of her friend group. I love how she was unapologetically herself and loved animals. She reminded me a lot of myself or at least who I wanted to be. Thank you for giving her a redesign that actually is her.

God I love this redesign! Lagoona deserved so much better in the reboot. Though I was more into the show aspect of monster high, I could definitely see kid me wanting a doll like this

love the representation don't get me wrong but outside australia I don't think I've ever seen an australian based character! they could've done so much with an episode where lagoona is stressed because her home THE GREAT SCARRIER REEF is slowly dying and they have to figure out a way to implement something thats a long term solution with saving it, LIKE WHATTT I'M SO MAD. :(
Hngggg!! Aaaah im so happy with how she came outtt, she looks so cool and awesome!!! I have to admit, my MH phase was very short, but out of all the dolls Lagoona was the one i desperately wanted, because i always found her aesthetically pleasing, so seeing that pink monstrosity was a bit of a blow for me XD they did my girl soo dirty!

I pretty much agree with everything you said, I really don't understand why they did Lagoona dirty like that, I mean everyone got their designs and personalities changed for the worst, but she literally became another person, she only have her name still intact, and I can't look at her new design without getting a headache. There's too much going on, too many colors and details and they just don't work well together. And the transparent legs could have been cool if you could see her bones, like some abyssal fish. Anyway I love your redesign, it's closer to the first gen, but with some awesome upgrades, I love that she looks more like a monster and all the details work so well together, she's adorable!
This design has so much personality. She looks more like a seamonster than in the original, and the braid looks great on her.
I remember when I first got into monster high my parents were fine they were happy I actually found a doll I loved and it opened up my love for gothic fashion
i wasn't super upset about the lagoona redesign but i didn't hold any strong emotions about gen1 lagoona so i can see why people are upset
your redesign tho? she would've been one of my favourites if she had this design its so fun and shaped and i love her face and how she's shining with personality

I am one of those crazy people that absolutely LOVES g3 Lagoona and pretty much everything about her just vibes with me. I’m ABSOLUTELY HEAD OVER HILLS for your version of her I actually feel like she’s a perfect middle between g3 and g1, for me, it’s giving g3 from pretty much every angle except for her actual body witch is a more monster version of g1 I feel like I would absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE HER AS A DOLL.

To be fair, lagoona is based on the creature from the black lagoon whose movie was set in the amazon river in south America, so making Lagoon Latina would make more sense.

I just wanted to tell you that I absolutelly love your content like I don't usually get excited when a youtuber uploads, but when I see it's a video of yours I run to see it lol I think it's amazing how you do so many researches and go deep in the character backstory so everything in the design has a why! Tbh your speedpaints are the best to me, bc they're actually very entertaining, hard to see channels like this! Such an inspiring workk :D❤
Honestly I feel like the doll designs should be what the animated ones should look like, it just looks way better. Personally I view the reboot as a separate univers from the original, like into the spiderwerse.

As a Lagoona Pink fan, you converted me. I personally still don’t like G1 Lagoona’s design (which is a shame because she’s one of my favorites in the webisodes), but this one really elevates her. Mattel, take notes.
I absolutely adore this design, I love the clothes and am so happy that the eyes look more monster like now.
I think the pink skin could’ve worked if they made it to where she changes colors based on emotions, blue is default while pink is when she's happy. And the funny thing is, on the box art, her hands are also blue.
Also, there was a reason for Frankie having blue skin and it was because of distribution rights to Frankenstein's monsters, which is also why she doesn't have her neck bolts.
Overall I do like Lagoona’s g3 design, I think it's cute, but she looks more like Lagoona’s sister trying to copy her older sister’s style but still wanting to be original

Yeah it gives big Disney descendant vibes it just doesn't have that good a plot or story XD and yeah my neighbors kid was so confused too kept asking if this was like a Disney Halloween special

My favorites from Monster High were Lagoona Blue, Abbey Bominable, Venus Mcflytrap, Wydowna Spider, and Viperine Gorgon. I love your re-design of Lagoona Blue!!!!! She looks so fish!!!! I think the 80’s really go well with her tbh! I do gotta disagree with you about her skating. I think skating does go with her because I kinda live by the beach and i always see people skating, so i think maybe her having a Ariel moment of watching people under the Pierre skating would be super cute and cool! I also see her playing volleyball. I do agree about making her the level headed person. I also see her being really close friends with Venus as both wanna protect the earth from pollution! Just maybe Venus is a bit more drastic about it lol

Finished video and I love the end result. I do not and will never understand the thought process of "girls not liking blue so we made a character with the last name 'blue' pink, like our other pink character . Despite having two other blue characters. " idk about you, I loved Abby, and she was sparkling blue.

I think the major problem with the new Lagoona (the new MH in general) is that they’re trying to be so inclusive it becomes a stereotype without any actual representation and just retconning already well established traits,
If you asked basically anyone back in 2016 who Lagoona was they’d answer ‘oh, she’s the Australian one’ (as an Australian I may be a bit biased tho :/ )
This! It’s even worse when you consider they already had plenty of characters to choose from if they wanted to be more inclusive. I get she’s one of the main group, but come on. It doesn’t help that there’s literally no reason for them to do it. Clawdeen doesn’t even dress like Clawdeen.

0:34 XD I watched it too and I have so many complaints with easily the biggest one being why does Draculaura not getting exposed as a witch, something really important to the plot of the show, ONLY get avoided by Clawdeen being half human? Like if they never changed that part of Clawdeen's character, how would they have avoided that? And how are they going to continue avoiding that if Laura's gonna continue practicing magic?? One episode in and already a big issue with the plot.

Gen 1 Lagoona will always have place in my heart, Gen 2 Lagoona was kind of basic, Gen 3 Lagoona is good-kind of but my issues with her that she looks too colorful it can be blinding to the eyes if put under different lighting in animation, i think designers were going for colorful barbie mermaid theme sense there current lines have notice have been really colorful with lines of toys Mattel has been putting out it just and if they wanted add pink could been accent color like her flower was, but otherwise she ok, but I love your redesign of her she looks like Lagoona but with updated look
Yeah g 1 lagoona was just the right amount for me where as g2 and 3 are way to much in different directions of her character but yeah they should ahve gone with a high light pink color is they wanted pink so bad I mean Draculura is enough pink for both of them we didnt need more XD
agreed i think the shade of pink they chose for her doll is wayy too bright compared to he animation. i think the pink just clashes with a lot of her colors in general

the reason why lagoona and frankie changed color schemes is because universal (owner of most of the original monsters) does not own monster high anymore

About the 3rd gen design, I like that she is latina, as I'm Brazilian and she was my second favorite from the main cast, and that they made her a little chubbier, but everything else, I hated it too. Although her original design was too simplistic to be a monster, like, take off her (removible for the dolls) fins, and you can't tell she's a monster unless you look at her hands and ears (that are usually hidden by her hair). I love your redesign, she looks like she should based on he 1st gen personality! I love the sportive but not overwhelming so style of her clothes, and her hair! Her. Hair! What you did to her skin is amazing too, it looks so good! The jacket was one of my favorite additions. When Monster High came out, I wanted to be a mix between Ghoulia and Lagoona and Frankie sooooo bad! If you do Frankie next, I will be so fudging happy!

Although I haven't seen the show (it doesn't exist in my country :/) I don't know why I still think most of the old designs look better and more unique than the new ones now (I especially like the Clawdeen g1 design)
Also I think they changed lagoona's skin to pink because Frankie is now blue and that's why they did it? (But Draculaura is pink too? IDK)
I especially like the outfit and the look you've given her (the sheer jacket and the seahorse bag are really cool) She looks like a real sporty girl and not a normal pink monster girl

Lagoona was my favorite with Clawdeen and Draculaura as a kid, because i saw myself in her (mainly the long and blond curly hair) thus i am SO HAPPY she is the first you redesigned, she looks SO GORGEOUS like THE HAIR AAAAHRHRHH 💞💞💞💞 beautiful work as always

I love your lagoona redesign, she looks so good! I especially love her jacket(I want it now lol) and her hair. The green parts of her hair remind me of how chlorine can turn blonde hair green(which she might have gotten from the pool at Monster High). Although Abbey was my favorite mh character, I remeber also really liking Lagoona as she her fashion style was generally the closest to mine out of the main characters. (side note, I thought the Gen 3 Lagoona was wearing a really weird pair of tights like whose idea was it to draw the "gradient" like that 😭)
I don't know if someone says it in the comments but Lagoona's color change is because in the prototype of the doll it was her original color, but they show the dolls to kids and Lagoona was the one they liked least. So they asked them what they would change about her and gave them several color options, with pink winning.
Idk why the blue of her foot tho, maybe to preserve the blue but doesn't even draw much attention at first glance.

I think part of why they redesigned her to be pink is because there were too many blue/green characters (Frankie and Ghoulia and even Abbey) while Draculaura is the only pink one. Still sad tho cause her name is literally Lagoona BLUE

Honestly I love all the MH characters but if I had to choose favorites I’d say Frankie and Draculuara! Because who doesn’t love Frankie and Draculuara? I wish I was as good at redesigns as you. 🥰

im rolling this is fantastic. can't wait to see a better take on Frankie, although i do like how the reboot doesn't feel the need to make them androgynous (because you don't need to be in order to be a valid enby) but it doesn't feel super well thought out beyond that. id also like to see a take on abby since she's my favorite but from what I can tell she hasn't really shown up at all (except the movie that shall not be named). can't wait!

anyway, if you are going to do frankie next, i hope you are gonna keep them as main character, bc well, they were perfect main character material, but nickelodion pushed them to the side with sucks, but i kinda get it, they maked frankie non binary and parents would be more angry at them than they are already. but still, that makes me sad, i'm myself non binary and in main stream media there is very little enby main characters, and i have a feeling that they will push frankie to be a minor character
Oh I'm keep them as the main character to whole reason Frankies character worked was because they where only 15 days old so everything was new to them just as it was for fans they where able to explain lore better with Frankie as the main character than clawdeen

Including the Miraculous designs even though I didn't like Miraculous that much since all the gacha memes of it- I never liked it that much but your designs made me like it more! I can actually agree with you about the other generations of Monster High and how you feel and some of your opinions on them. The design for the first generation of the Monster High dolls didn't really bother me at all. I actually love the designs that are used in a gothic fashion, and I had NO idea that parents were complaining about the dolls. I really don't see what the issue is, but I can see a lot of things wrong with the other Gen monster high. I was kinda excited to see the Gen 2 monster high but what really made me uninterested was how cartoony it was to me. Like Draculora in her bat form, it didn't seem very natural to me and I didn't like the shape of the head that it was molded in. Plus, I didn't expect Draculora to be the main character of the Gen 2 movie. I also would dislike that Clawdeen was given so many siblings in that movie. I didn't like that at all. After that, I just lost interest.
And now with this new Nickelodeon movie... I am down right disappointed 😡
I love the redesign you made for Lagoona. She actually has that sea monster look and the pony tail looks like a long tail. And I'm glad you stuck with her skin being blue. Cause I love her blue skin. Amazing redesign.

This was a joke,,, I honestly kinda like this, it seems like you played alot with the idea that she's a sea monster. Honestly, I didn't really bother watching the newest reboots but my cousin likes the Gen 2 and probably would like the live-action movie (she's around 5 btw) so I mostly don't have a hate for it, but that's because my cousin likes it and I'm glad she can enjoy it. But the og series will forever be my favorite

The new gens seem to completely ignore the males or just screw them over entirely which breaks my heart when Monster high is about all types of people and Ghouls. Along with Lagoona so many amazing characters got side lined or lame designs because of this. Changing things that didn't need to be changed and taking out things people wanted. It's all just giving....ugh eh vibes.
Lagoona Blue was my absolute favorite character as a kid and I even got a doll of her from my parents because they knew how much I loved her. I was very disappointed in her G3 design, especially the fact they took so much of her personality and even turned her skin pink for no reason.

I'm Australian and she was the one Australian character in shows and stuff (who was obviously Australian) that I actually liked when I was growing up. I'm not sure how true this statement is, but every other show with Australian characters, unless it was an Australian show, felt really stereotypical.
Lagoona didn't feel that way to me, she was one of my favourite characters because it felt like she had personality other than just being Australian, which I didn't see a lot. From what I remember there weren't any other Australian monsters at the school, and the Australian monsters that there were, were from the great scarrier reef movie. I haven't watched it in a while, but I don't think they end up going to monster high at the end of the movie.
It just feels really sad to me, she was the one Australian character who was in the main cast who I actually liked when I was growing up. It was nice to see, and it just makes me sad to see that my favourite character has been butchered so much.

I was never into monster high but when I stumbled on the latest version of Lagoona my first thought was “why are you pink?” I checked my books on reef fish to see if they were maybe referencing a specific fish as there are a lot of colorful and stunning aquatic life. But no she doesn’t match anything I know. Though that dose bring the question. If you’re going to change her color why not make it a cool nod to real life sea creatures? At least then changing her blue would make some sense. But I guess she’s pink now.
I use to be a huge fan of monster high bc how they teach you lessons of treat others how you want to be treated, don't judge books by the cover, everyone should accept their flaws that makes them themselves, and accept others for who they are race or flaws. Gothic is amazing.
As a person who loves doll art, I would be happy to try and make this doll!
