I have always wanted to make these. I'm so glad you made them! Now they're on my list of thing to make over the holidays. Thank you for being part of the collaboration!
My great aunt made these. She used to roll the apple in the cinnamon sugar instead of just in the core before wrapping in the dough. I was a cinnamon hog so she always put extra for me. Loved them almost as much as her apple pie, which was my birthday " cake " of choice!
LeAnne, reminding me of my dear sweet grandma, mading these for us when I was young. Couldn't wait to have them, after dinner...plus she cook up the scrap dough with a little sugar and spice for a snack before dinner....beautiful memory we a tear in my eye...Thank you so much for the warm hugs I'm feeling right now...😢🤗💕

Geez I haven't made these in years. Thanks for the reminder. Looks delicious. Who eats pretty ? Nope not me. Pass the ice cream please. Thanks LeAnne for sharing. You are a star. Make it a great day.
My husband loves these so this is going to be a hit here, thank you for another blessing! Praying things have gotten better for you & Howard, I know it's going to be a long process. Thinking & praying for you all!
Since we have a golden delicious tree, I usually use this for pie or baking. It cooks up very well. This looks like a very good recipe. I can just smell it coming out of the oven.
You have such a delightful sense of humor! Your determination to get these in the oven proved to be worth it. They look AWESOME!! You better believe I’ll be making them. Thanks for making me smile!
My favorite eating apple is the Honeycrisp. My favorite baking apple is a Granny Smith. Your apple dumplings are absolutely beautiful! Watching you cook is like watching myself. I’m glad I can help! My mom’s mom past before I was born and my dad’s mom passed right after I graduated from high school from her second battle of breast cancer. So there isn’t a day goes by that I don’t miss them. I hope you can make these and make more memories with your loved ones!
They look yummy. I think this will be a must try Thanks for sharing this recipe. Glad your husband got some help. Prayers for you and your family. May you have a Blessed weekend
Hi LeAnne I just love watching your videos. The absolute best apple I've ever had were called Arkansas Black's. I lived about a mile from the orchard and I would go once a week until they were ready. A very crisp and juicy apple. I've never seen them anywhere else then South Carolina.
I use the same recipe. My grandmother was Mennonite and I have her cookbook. I haven't made these in a long time. Thanks for the reminder. I will definitely be making these soon.
Love your channel. When I was a girl I would peel slice and core the 1/2 bushel of apples with a knife to make apple dumplings every fall. My mother would make the pie dough and make the dumplings pie size to eat for our evening meal. Brings back great memories for me
Just watched this video and can't wait for tomorrow! Was just gifted a ton of apples and haven't made these in years! Thanks for the delicious reminder! Sending Blessings!!
Well that just looks like an ayre pie pocket! I'm feeling a need to try those when apples are a good price! No Amish or Mennonite markets in my area 😪.
Holy moly does that look good! My mom only ever made apple dumplings once that I can recall. And come to think of it, I think I've only made them once myself. Better remedy that hadn't I? Thank you for sharing the recipe and I sure hope you filmed this before the fire, I can't imagine how you'd have time to do this the last few days. Keeping your family in my prayers.
Exactly! First mistake was taking too long to buy the apples because it’s a 45 minute drive one way to get them… then doing the video first thing when I wake up without coffee when the video is due out on that day… but I’m glad I showed how transparent and real I am because that’s how I roll. I needed a good laugh after the week I have had!
Thank you for sharing this recipe. It brought back childhood memories. Every Fall, when Apple season arrived, my mom made large pans of apple dumplings. She made them just like this minus the syrup. So yummy. She served them warm in a bowl with a bit of cream or milk.
I love the honeycrisp apples best but agree Leann that they are too expensive. These baked apples looked so good. I love apples raw, cut up in oatmeal, baked, crisp, etc. I think I’ll try these for thanksgiving. Thank you and God bless.
My grandma taught me how to make those .she would roll the whole the apple in cinnamon sugar .then she would always put a little tiny pat of butter in the of the apple before she coved the top of the apple with dough.I always remember the two of us spending a whole Saturday making them because grandma shared with everyone. Good memories
I love apple dumplings and these sure came out beautifully. My favorite apple is always cooked, whether baked, in pies or sauce, the tart varieties always seem best for this. 👍
LeAnne, I wanted to take a minute to let you know I am COMPLETELY addicted to your RUclips videos and watch them on my TV daily. Rewatching them never gets old; each time I watch once I've seen before, I see something I didn't notice when watching the video before! Your presentation style, and the content of your videos is exactly what I've been looking for. You're so down to earth! I'm re-learning how to bake and you're covering everything from canning, to baking bread, to the benefits of home grown veggies, AND you let us know where you get your recipes including showing us the cook books you sometimes refer to for recipes (which I hunt for online and purchase; I now have 4 of them). Thank you so much for explaining not only the "how to" of how to add the ingredients of a recipe together, but also the "why" some steps are important in the order you have them. All of that info is important to me. Oh, I absolutely cherish the special times when you let us have a glimpse into your life style--I've seen your wonderful garden (my goodness! it's beautiful! So well kept up!) and the video clip of the corn tractor and I'm assuming your husband was driving it--it was wonderful to get a glimpse into a lifestyle I've never seen up close having been raised in the city and having lived almost my whole life there as well. So, thanks for all you share with us...please take care, and yes, God has given us a great day; now go do something great with it!
Oh, my is right!! These looks scrumptious! I haven't made these since my kiddos were still living at home. If I remember correctly, the sauce I used to make was a cinnamon syrup and I may have either used red hot candies or added red food coloring. I think it may have used white sugar as well. My favorite apple to eat out of hand is a Black Twig. I almost never see them and only occasionally at the farmer's market. I also enjoy a Pink Lady for eating fresh. For cooking, it's probably a Pippin. Can't usually find those either!! Because I rarely find Pippins, I usually go for a Granny Smith when used for baking. You crack me up, LeAnne. I think you may be almost as messy as I am. 🤣🤣
I usually end up making extra dough because I tend to pick apples that are bigger than what the recipe calls for. With that said I definitely need to make some of these. Thanks for sharing your recipes Leanne. 🙂❤️
