    Love Tasha Tudor books. She was such an interesting woman. I have really gotten interested in going back to the old ways of growing, propagating, and gardening in general. Can’t wait to watch the video and would love you to show any tips on propagating cuttings if you do that. Mr Browns broom video was so inspiring the other day. Love you both to pieces. God bless you both. Your online friend. Lorri from AL

    I have Tasha’s cookbook. Our daughter was introduced to Tasha Tudor children books when she was a little girl many years ago. She still has all her books. I came across columbine and forget-me-not seeds from Tasha’s home several years ago and ordered them. Though the forget-me-nots went by the wayside, the columbines come up every year. My daughter has Tasha’s videos. I read “T’was the Night Before Christmas” book illustrated by Tasha every Christmas. This was a treat to find since my daughter and I have always been Tasha Tudor fans.❤ Thank you!

    I remember my Granny would make us apple dumplings. One day we begged her to make them, but we didn't have any apples and no way to go to the store, so she pulled out some apple sauce she had made and made dumplings with it. They were delicious! She always had a way of making everything taste good. Once she made us some taffy for a taffy pull and told us how they did it when she was young...if you had a sweetheart, you pulled taffy with them so you could touch hands. 😊 I miss her, but she's still lives in my heart 💕

      Hi Judibooher8409 my Nana taught me how to make apple dumpling the same way! They were a recipe out of an old Betty Crocker cookbook. I have that old cookbook from her, and I make them once in awhile, so good. Only difference is that you baste them with the sauce every 15 minutes until done cooking. It gives the crust a nice candy glaze, which I love the most!😊

    • @Damselfly54315
      @Damselfly54315 4 месяца назад

      @tamistone7344 Really,there's a recipe in a Betty Crocker Cookbook like that...May I ask what year? is publication?
      I have the recipe that she had, it was passed down by her mother and dated 1892...I can't say if it went back further than that, but I'm surprised to hear it is exactly the same, My grandmother had it in HER truck stop restaurant in 1959, and she used her mother's recipe from the late 1800's I was born in 1954...I know Betty Cricker had one but it differed as in it had raisins from a 1940 edition I THINK, but it was not the same, but in looking up vintage recipes after I saw ur post there WAS one from the 70's that was similar and required basting with the sauce...My grandmother's, mother's recipe did not contain raisins, or nuts, it was predepression Era recipe...

    • @tamistone7344
      @tamistone7344 4 месяца назад

      @judibooher8409 HI Judi, I made a mistake and said it was a Betty Crooker cook book. So when I got it out to look for a date for you, I realized it's actually a Better Homes and Gardens cook book! I couldn't find a date on this cookbook anywhere. But looking at the illustrations and pictures, it sure looks like late 50's early 60's! This recipe doesn't call for raises or nuts either.

    I remember many years ago that my mother made apple dumplings once, or twice, in the fall when the apples were the least expensive, and most plentiful. We’d go to the local apple orchard, and pick what she needed, then got to eat the rewards of our labor that evening. I’m no longer a “sweet” fan, but can’t wait to make these in the morning. Thanks, for the post, amd helping me a new word. In all of my 69 years, I have never heard the word “larapin”. I had to google it, and will be using it in the future. Thanks again.

    Oh, Mrs Lori!! I just love you and Mr Brown! I just had to comment on this; my grandfather was born in 1898 and is the only person in my entire 60 year life to use the word “larapin”! I’ve never heard anyone else say it but you, and when you do I am immediately swept back to my childhood and my sweet grandpa saying that! He used it to describe something SO good you had to lick the plate when done! Thank you for that ❤ He went to be with the Lord in 1980, and he was one of the sweetest men I’ve ever known.

    Miss Lori I had never heard of Tasha Tudor before tonight, watching your video of her cookbook and making the apple dumplings. my mother-in-law used to make what she called apple dumplings. She get the biggest pot that she had put water in it and a whole can of carnation evaporated milk sweeten it and add vanilla to taste. This was coming to a bowl on the stove she would make a biscuit dough like she was making biscuits. Roll it out. She would chop her apples and small bits and play some inside her dough with a little bit of cinnamon and sugar pinching the dough together a hold the contents, and when she would get a few of them made, she would start dropping them in the milk mixture on the stove, she would not stir them much. She would keep checking to make sure that she had gotten her apples cooked inside. It was just a wonderful recipe. I wish I had taken time to write it down as she was making it so if you don’t mind in your research through your vintage cookbooks if you come across one like this with the milk in it, let me know please. I’d appreciate it so much thanks I love watching you and Mr. Brown and you telling about your life. Thank you so much..

    I have never heard of Tasha Tudor but I will do some research on her. I love cookbooks. When I was working if anyone came in with a cookbook for sale, I always bought them. I still have them and some of my mother's very old cookbooks. I bought all my cookbooks back in the 70's and 80's, so they have alot of recipes in them and I do search on the internet for recipes. Those apple dumplings look amazing. I have never made them so that is another something good I can try to make. Thank you for sharing this amazing recipe. I enjoy watching you so much. I love your kitchen so much. I feel like when a person cooks they have to put lots of love in the dish. I can tell by your kitchen there is alot of love in every single thing you cook.

    My Dad was raised where these were a dinner. My Mom learned how to make them from my grandmother. She would boil the apples until tender. Place the apples on a cooling rack, leaving a few in the water for the sauce. Once her dough was made she’d put one half apple onto her dough square, flat side up, place a slab of butter in the cored out section, sprinkle with cinnamon sugar then close up the dough like an envelope. She’d then bake them and while they were baking she’d make the sauce with the boiling water that was used to cook the apples. She’d mix up a cornstarch slurry, mash up the apples that were left in the water and add a little sugar until it thickens up. Once the dumplings were done, place one in a bowl, pour some sauce on top with a little milk and we’d have a yummy dinner. It wasn’t until I was an adult that I found out these were really a dessert. Obviously I had a great childhood. 😊 Thank you for sharing this recipe, it brought back good memories. God bless you and Mr Brown love watching your channel.

    Love everything Tasha Tudor. She is my hero. I learned about her over 30 years ago when Victoria Magazine did a feature article on her. Since then I've been collecting her books and got a couple of the videos that were made about her at Corgi Cottage..."Take Joy" and "Take Peace". When I saw your video and that the recipe came from Tasha's cookbook, I had to look in the cookbook I have because the recipe did not sound familiar. Sure enough, it's not in the book I have with a copyright date of 1993. There must have been another cook book published later. Now, I'm going to have to look for that one too. 😊❤ Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe of Tasha Tudor's. It looks delicious!

If we missed it, we could usually send a dollar or so to the network, along with a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope for all you youngins!) and they'd mail us a copy. These look absolutely delicious! My mother used to love apple dumplings. She did not make them very often but Apple dumplings or apple Pie were among her favorite desserts. She was a wonderful cook and a wonderful lady. I wish I had paid more attention to her cooking when I was growing upI am unable to cook now due to health reasons but I love watching your videos and thinking of my mother. Thank you for this recipe.

    I love to cut apples in thin slices & slice cheese thinly, any cheese you have on hand, on the top & microwave for a few minutes according to how much you have cut up! Just watch it until it melts! Please let it cool a few minutes as it will be hot! Love this video! Blessings❣️❣️

    Mrs. Lori, I got my Tasha Tudor's CB out and made the baking soda biscuits. I milled soft wheat instead of using white flour. Oh my!!! They turned out wonderful. I made buttermilk from raw milk earlier this week. It us a thick as sour cream and has a very pleasant taste (as far as buttermilk goes). Try the biscuits, use the egg. Yum

    Ms Lori I haven’t made homemade apple dumplings in years. I use to fret over making them. I would make them whole and they would fall apart before I could transfer them to my baking dish. They always turned out wonderful, but they are more difficult whole in my opinion. You have taught me a new way. I have apples and I’m going to give these a try. Bless you for sharing these wonderful recipes. I love to cook and preserve and garden too. It gives me great pleasure and it’s relaxing. I look forward to seeing you and Mr Brown. I’m enjoying his videos as well. 😊

    I love apple dumplings! You can also just use apple pie filling. Then you dont have to worry about your apples being slightly crunchy.

    Hey! I love your videos Ms. Lori! I’m going to share something with you that you probably don’t want to hear but if you’re experiencing inflammation in the joints in your hands, you might want to give up gluten products for a couple of weeks. I have found that it made a huge difference in my joints, especially my hands. I know how hard that is because I love to cook as well. And I love making fresh bread. Just want you to keep doing what you do because you bless us!

    Looks really good! Growing up in PA we had lots of Amish baked apple dumplings. The road my parents live on there are apple orchards with red delicious and many varieties. Unfortunately they spray a lot now too. But is a beautiful setting with the orchards in Appalachians. 😊❤ So glad your hands are a little better! When you said tuck n roll, it reminded me of my Airborne training, lol! 😁 God bless you guys!
