  • Ok, so here's a video that's different from what I usually do. I didn't want to just not do anything with the footage I took of this historic train station building, so I knew I would eventually make a video about it. Don't worry though, I'll return New York City for my next video.

My Grandfather worked for the Erie Railroad for 50 years Started off in Susquehanna Pa and then in Binghamton for many of his last years . I was born in Binghamton in 1943 and went in the USN in 1960 retired in 1984 . I remember my Dad taking me and my brother to the switching yard and it was full of the old steam engines going to scrap . Have only been back a few times when My Mom and Dad passed and other family members have passed .

I live in Binghamton and that station is being remodeled into a restaurant in the vacant part of the building called Station 45 steakhouse, I poured the concrete outside the building where that big red dumpster is sitting in your video, that station was also one the location they first tried out wireless telegraph to communicate with moving trains, the telegraphtower still stands today since w a plaque at its base telling the story..🙏 good video and nice to learn a little more of history here in Binghamton, thank you

In 1964, I rode the train from Binghamton with one of my older sisters to the NYC Worlds Fair and back. We ended up at Grand Central Station in NYC. I was 8 and she was 13 years old. It’s a shame they can’t run service again to NYC or north to Syracuse…Especially for the college kids that attend BU from the city

Thank you for the History of the train station, I was born in Johnson city, my Mom took the train in 1952, to Louisiana. I haven't been back home since 1998. I grew up in Florida. My parents were born and raised up there, in the triple cities.

Nice overview. Plus if you watch the video to the end the station has an active second life. This is good news for locals that want to keep there history alive!

Excellent potted history of the routes west - it would be folly to ignore the history of lines in the NYC hinterland just because they're in a different state - would love a detailed look at the Boonton/Montclair rerouting and to see what's left on the abandoned sections - thanks very much \m/

The last stop of the "death car" before the train crashed and cooked the passengers alive from the steam from the ruptured boiler as the train car came to a rest beside the overturned engine. Afterwards, they salvaged the train car and put it back into service. Its supposedly haunted to this day, its on display at some railroad museum. The Lackawanna limited wreck
