    I hate to say this, but I used to really like this channel because the focus was on getting the biggest bang for your buck with emulation, like cell phones under $100, office PCs turned emulation machines, and the occasional "all-out" showcase with an i9 build. I spent a lot of money over the past few years based on recommendations, and not once did I feel ripped off. This channel showed me that my i9 machines were not needed to achieve emulation of virtually every console and home computer up to Xbox 360 and PS3. In fact, an i3-1215u laptop can be purchased for under $300 that will make that happen (so can a i5-1235u laptop or Ryzen 7 5800H, both of which can be bought for less than $300).
    Now, everything is the best he's seen, there are typos in virtually every video, and while this isn't your fault at all, the tech is all pretty much the same (example: what's the difference between one Ryzen 7 7840u handheld and another, other than the brand?). I think Retro Game Corps has kind of taken over as the emulation go-to, with Wicked Gamer and Collector (and his other channels) taking the best bang-for-your-buck approach.
    It's a shame really. I'd like to see this channel return to what it was a few years ago.

      ETAPrime is a good channel if you want to see him do a showcase, where he will show gameplay with various emulators and modern games. His format is also simple, you can fast forward to the part where he shows the gameplay without having to hear him talk about his opinions of other tech over the gameplay he is showing. Like with all youtubers, take the videos with a grain of salt. I'd rather watch an ETA video over Linus Tech Tips if I am looking to see how a device performs.

    • @SteVoUniT914
      @SteVoUniT914 6 месяцев назад +7

      This isn't to discredit other youtubers. Every video format has its strengths and weaknesses. At best, ETA's exaggerations come from saying things like "It's the best thing on the market". Sometimes I laugh when he says, "Runs smooth, no lag" and there is lag on the device he is testing. IMO, I think every major youtuber who showcases tech that isn't even out yet is receiving some sort of sponsorship/incentive, so its obviously going to be biased. Just take each video with a grain of salt.

      Your comment couldn't be more to the point, the problem is that you're writing it about the ONLY mini PC worth a damn.
      The gmktec k8 costs 400$ barebone and around 560$ with 32gb and 1to nvme, it outdoes all the other mini pc tests he's done on the R7 8840hs and above all, even compared to the others (geekom at 800$ or miniforum at 700$) it's much cheaper for quality
      otherwise people who don't understand that this is a business need to wake up, personally I thank him for all his work and it's a pleasure for him to keep affiliate links for this.

      I mean, prices for 8840HS laptops have really dropped in the last 5 months.
      In my country you can get an laptop with an 8840HS CPU, 1 tb of ram, and 16 gb of ddr5 memory for 600 dollars.
      And the price will only drop in the future.

I promise that it'll add a whole new world ofr content to your videos and you'll get the Ai crowd watching. Personally, I'm dying to see the difference in performance between the Ryzan 7840HS and the new 8840HS in terms of a 7B or 13B LLM model with simply chatting back and forth with a chatbot (offline) on the local PC. Thats my main use-case for buying one of these is for dedicated and offline Ai usage. Thanks in advance! :)

      I have a lot of problems adapting displayport to hdmi in cyberdeck builds. The extra adapter for my dual screen builds takes up a lot of valuable space and adds unnecessary weight. I know this isn't normal for most people but a single hdmi port is very limiting.

    Does anyone own one of these now? Can you attest to whether or not it thermal throttles or overheats yet while gaming or pushing it? I may want to buy one but I don't think the cooling looks as nice as the Beelink SER7? My backstory is that I purchased two Beelink SER7s and installed Proxmox on them...Things were going great. Then I decided to add a 2nd NVME so I got a nice WD Black 2TB and installed it, and immediately I started getting flooded with pcie bus errors on both SER7s. After many hours of searching on the web, it seems like SER7's purchased in 2024 (recently) are having this issue...there's a work-around to turn-off ASPM in the BIOS or kernel, but now I'm paranoid there's other hardware issues that I don't want to find out the hard way after my return period is over. (I've tried multiple NVMes by the way). It could be a BIOS issue, but at this point I'm tempted to return my two SER7s and try this GMKtec K8 since it has a better APU than the SER7 anyways, and I DO want to use this with GPU passthru for Ai tasks (yes, the SER7 / Ryzen 7 7840HS and 8845HS is actually really good for running local Ai stuff so far) from my testing with the 7840HS. It's a shame though, because I can't wait for the SER8 to release, and I do find the overall quality of the SER7 to be fantastic aside from the fact that I hate the magnetic proprietary charger on it, and this lame PCIe issue with power management that I'm dealing with. If this GMKtec K8 gets by fine with no heat issues though, then I'll gladly return my SER7s and upgrade the APU. If anyone can please help, that'd be great.

I hope that ETA Prime maybe starts doing torture tests on these things in the future to see how far they can go (and how fast these units give up). My SER7's have been great even when I beat on them, except this error I get when adding a 2nd NVME which is a pretty huge issue to me. I don't see any other mini-PCs that I'm interested in right now within this $600-$700 budget. Seems like maybe I should wait for the Beelink SER8 then.

      At this point he's more interested in pumping out videos to get views everyday instead of quality and following up. Always by the same script and nothing ever that cares about the followers he's already got. AI performance will make no difference to games either. So all 7840/7940hs videos are clones for performance.

And its more than fine for what i play and do, the noise level is also minimal and it doesnt exceed 70c even after hours of gaming. But then again im in no way a pc master race enthusiast. I was fine with the performance of a gtx 1650, which it preforms similar to at a quarter of its power draw.

    • @fukov3400
      @fukov3400 6 месяцев назад

      If you're worried about viruses and malware you can first boot to USB and use a recovery/rescue/AV boot image to scan the drive before ever booting into windows. Afterward you can use a driver transfer/recovery program to copy drivers from old system and reinstall on new system. Or use a mix of windows update and factory AMD chipset drivers as a starting point along with wifi or Ethernet drivers if base drivers aren't included with windows.
