Chael understands the wrestling business enough that he used the entire concept of heel psychology to build his MMA/UFC persona. People who love Chael, yet hate wrestling, are just so bizarre to me. He is a fantastic fighter, one of the best for sure, but it's his mic work and persona that got him as popular as he did. I love the fighters that acknowledge how much professional wrestling has helped their careers.
Ive been trying to explain to people that professional wrestling, politics, religion, & sales are all the same business.
The moment you realize that all of society is a work....is actually extremely freeing

A lot of people don’t know The Rock didn’t fully create his character, he was a manufactured star. His character is a recreation of Scott Hall’s Razor Ramon. Dwayne stole a lot of catchphrases. He didn’t even create his name or talking in the 3rd person that was Vince Russo & Jim Ross. Supposedly Pat Patterson too who was the guy Dwayne Johnson was giving BJs to for his career.

The Rock was only a full time wrestler “in the big leagues” for like 6 years. Hogan had more of a cultural impact. Not only was he the perennial babyface, but then was the biggest heel in the business for 3.5 years. Then got another good tweener/babyface run from like 99 to 03-ish. Rock’s a more successful actor hands down, by 10 miles. They’re both arguably the two biggest icons of the last 40 years. Austin’s a close 3rd, but his entire full time career was like 13 years. On top for maybe 5 of those years. 🤷🏾♂️
What hurts Hogan’s legacy is his habitual lying and track record with his outlandish claims that have been debunked. And well the racial slur rant. It was a private convo yes but with someone as famous he is. It tanked his reputation further.

I fully agree with Chael that I liked wrestling more when it looked like a brawl instead of choreographed aerobatics. This is something many criticize AEW for, and rightly so, but even WWE does it to a lesser extent. Everything is planned, but not everything needs to seem planned to the audience. This is why I appreciate wrestlers like Sheamus, because their wrestling style does appear rehearsed in any way, although it most probably is.
