I had myself a decent gaming rig set up at my parents house but my living conditions changed. I'm going to school and I stay at my relatives houses a few days at a time till I'm done with school. However, I also stay a large amount of my time at school. The first few weeks I only had access to my desktop maybe 2 nights a week. So I sold it to a friend for 800 dollars and put more money into buying this machine. It's well worth the admission price although it's hard to find a bag.
I am a University Student and my major is Game Programming and this laptop does it's job at anything I throw at it. It's really a rock solid machine for gaming and game development.
@paddyroche2 I've been gaming on laptops for 3 years and i have no regrets. My first had a Ati 4570 and my upgraded one has a Ati 5650 and it runs great. Just because you had a bad experience doesn't mean everyone else will. You are also forgeting not everyone is stationary and they cannot drag their towers with them.
@SanAnger No it just misses key strokes. To fix this, just uninstall the synapsis mouse driver (you wont miss much other than a few things from your touch pad) from the control panel. It fixed mine. I'm not missing the drivers either :)
The G73 will play any game you want. Most at highest settings with reasonable fps. If the game is really graphics intensive, just turn the settings down till you get fps you can live with.
@Dorisequador unfortunately the problem with that is the graphics are not as good as on a laptop and if you still want to game on a big screen tv you can still plug it in via hdmi.
@@ayecold8091 It seems to be doing pretty well for what i wanted it for however mine had to have some serious updating to the software. I have not tried anything that is going to push it hard but i can sit and play final fantasy 11 all day and it never has any issues. I would like to try 14 on here to see if it can handle the graphics. the cooling system is why i got this laptop to be honest with you, the fans pulling from the top of the keyboard is working way better then my acre that has the little fan trying to suck air in from underneath.
best review so far on this laptop....can you do a qosmio X505-890 review..you're reviews are so comprehensive and extremely unbiased...which really helps in making a decision on which laptop to buy
Actually, I carry this laptop to my architecture studio everyday and it's never been a hassle. The included backpack is great! Pull back the zipper and the laptop drops right into the bag with ease.
Getting mine in the mail in the next few days. So damn EXCITED. No more overheating problems like my 7 year old Dell XPS M1710. I can finally play AC III and Skyrim for days!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I want to understand more about computer specs (which I'm relatively new to) - is there a video that explains terms such as Core i5.. ATI Radeon.. etc?
I have the 1600 X 900 one too but I'm not complaining. I just recently maxed out the ram slots to 14gb of DDR3 ram last Christmas, so I'll be set for another few years. Also, at 1600 X 900 resolution, even the most recent games run at 60fps or better.
@Dorisequador 1. i will acknowledge that if you want a gaming computer you should get a desktop 2. give me details on the changes you want to make to this desktop because it is never ever that simple (ie do you know if the psu can handle it?) 3. your xbox/ps3 was outdated even when you bought it
Honestly if you want mobility and a gaming laptop look no further than the G53, smaller pricetag, smaller screen, same resolution and specs....go for it
@rakerlad Depends on the model (JH with 1080p screen is the best), but all of them cost a wee bit more than that. Still, for it's money, heck, scratch that, the g73 is a GREAT gaming laptop, but "ultimate gaming experience" is a bit too much, don't you think?
@Dorisequador do keep in mind that your everyday multitasking laptop (that im guessing you have) costs about $1000, and that your xbox should be around $300+ (and then spent more on controllers and games). So your telling me that you have bought 1 moderate computer and 1 very very very very crap computer while you could have just bought this laptop which is better then your bundle considering you get a better computer and pc games are cheaper. Infact the only way you win is split screen :)
well i have owned this lap top for over a week so far and have not had one issue on it other than the battery life but hehhe that isnt what i bought it for so i have no complaints
can anyone tell me if this computer can play "Call of Duty : World at War" without lag or slow motion? cause my current asus isnt strong enough and it plays games like its in slow motion, so im trying to find a new computer, can someone help? and i want a laptop not a desktop
It's a crying shame that this notebook has such an amazing chassis paired with crap internals. This model has been plagued with BSOD issues from day one and has been designed to be replaced in 2-3 years. You cannot access the internal components, not even the fans to dust let alone processor or gpu. I would have gladly paid 500 dollars more had they actually made this system of high quality with high end motherboard and accessible coolers. Look at the MSI GX660R internals for reference.
Do you guys think I should buy this or an m15x with 6gigs of ram 320gb i7 processor and their best video card for 2300? I'm looking to play crysis, oblivion, etc. Thanks!!
I know it's a laptop, but who's gonna be carrying that huge BlackBird around for on-the-go gaming? Mostly likely, you'll always be home when using it, so what does battery life matter? I mean, it's a GAMING LAPTOP... Damn-fine review otherwise... Informative, comparative, and straight to the point!
@MatthewCentral tigerdirect had a G74 model for 1600 a few weeks back. Nice specs. Best Buy sells em for hundreds less but gimps the video card and resolution.
@Str82YourFace if you want to game with this i would look into a notebook cooler (not sure if its neccessary but if you game for a prolonged time than you will need it). The problems you have listed look just like defects to me and if you need assurance call asus on this. As for whether this notebook is worth it, it is worth it spec wise but dont expect to move it like the macbook pro (cant put enough emphasis on this point)
this laptop is riddled with problems. Got my g73jh a1 and had to RMA the thing in less than 30 days. There were many problems like throttling issues with the corei7, the gpu would cause lines to show up in games, bluray freezes in middle of movies, I got the GSOD several times and than finally the PSOD which made it useless. Also the manufacturer gives you NO bluray software so you have to fork out another 80 bucks for it. These r common prob you can view here on youtube.
FUnny that you guys would compare to a macbook pro !!! Not that I think they should be compared AT ALL.. I definitely dont. It's just I sold my HP HDX 20 inch laptop for this 17" macbook pro unibody with upgraded processor and SSD. It only has a 9600gt 512mb vcard but I do use it for some WoW and TFT (frozen throne). The biggest suck is that I cant install steam on my mac and play CS and stuff while Im at work. Im actually thinking to sell the mbp17 for one of these babies. Im always plugged.
@spartan4480 i play in dx10 with some setting set to medium and i get near always 60fps. I play at 1600x900 res and i overclock with amd gpu clock speed 705/1100 (default 700/1000). i also use gamebooster 2.3
@MatthewCentral I haven't seen em with extras. If you get full resolution you should be in good shape. 1920x1080 = good graphics card. 1600x900 = 128 bit gimped piece-o-crap. The G73Jh also has bios issues. Assuming they fixed this with the G74. Check out "G73Jh GSOD VBios update guide" here on youtube.
I turned one of these into a pc because the screen was broken and It was overheating . The heatsinks clog up on these after years of use. Honestly it runs csgo on low at like 60 or 70 fps . very playable lol. nothing like my new pc that does well over 200 fps on ultra
@BrainDDR exactly but then people say to me but why don't you buy a desktop if you don't care about mobility. i then respond by saying have fun dragging your desktop to a lan party
@Vanetus Please, for the sake of your wallet..do NOT buy an Alienware. You can customize the Asus to have the exact same hardware the Alienware m17x has, with the exception of a few flashy lights...for 1000-2000$ less. Get this laptop, you wont be sorry.
no I got this Asus G73Jh that $1,200 is the the (tag) after the ring up is done with the 2 year warrent and all that other shit with GQ full cost 1,600. My friend got the next modal and payed less then me
Apple is a joke for gaming, in my mind, there not even part of the discussion. My G73 is the ultimate gaming experiance specially when you plug that shit into the hdmi input on my tv, it blows my xbox 360 out of the water Oh my god 8 lbs must be pretty heavy for a nerd like this guy!!!
Apple is a joke for gaming, in my mind, there not even part of the discussion. My G73 is the ultimate gaming experiance specially when you plug that shit into the hdmi input on my tv, it blows my xbox 360 out of the water
@FRENETIC11 or your like my sister who doesn't play any HD games and only uses it for school+facebook, and portability. But for me my G73 is coming tommorow cant wait.. But i Agree macbooks are weak and is a complete waste of money.
This laptop is still a beast
13 years later I'm typing this comment on my G73Jh - either Asus builds them to last or I won the laptop lottery.
Mine died in 2014 :(
I had myself a decent gaming rig set up at my parents house but my living conditions changed. I'm going to school and I stay at my relatives houses a few days at a time till I'm done with school. how wel can it run newer games like, BF3 ,Black ops 2 ,Saints row 4, Far cry 3? and what settings and framerate?

@Dorisequador unfortunately the problem with that is the graphics are not as good as on a laptop and if you still want to game on a big screen tv you can still plug it in via hdmi.
Just got one of these of eBay for 300 dollars. The weight don't matter to me, but I all wondering if I can get a better battery.
I'm thinking about getting one. How's it working with newer games?
@@ayecold8091 It seems to be doing pretty well for what i wanted it for however mine had to have some serious updating to the software. Looks great, but I agree on all the points about non-portability.

@Smashogun According to several company reps that I've spoken to, the proper pronunciation is "uh soos"
you need to check out the SLAPPA Custom Build M.A.S.K. backpack. It's ideal for the Asus G73 and the Alienware m17x
I have the 1600 X 900 one too but I'm not complaining. I just recently maxed out the ram slots to 14gb of DDR3 ram last Christmas, so I'll be set for another few years. Also, at 1600 X 900 resolution, even the most recent games run at 60fps or better.

@homebrewman23 Ultimate gaming experience? It's a great laptop, but MSI GT780DXR or Clevo P170HM blow it out of the water.
Don't forget about the crash that this laptop has when you press Fn + Esc
how is the asus G73JH-BST7? idk the difference but its available at bestbuys which is the only reason i came across it.
it still good ? and how about war thunder like middle graphics settings ? works how thanks
@TheGamerLoad haha and the refurbished one is 999, it's obviously more affordable than a macbook
@Dorisequador do keep in mind that your everyday multitasking laptop (that im guessing you have) costs about $1000, and that your xbox should be around $300+ (and then spent more on controllers and games). I've often heard if AAx8 or something AA in the description or comments of vids about tests of this laptop what does this mean
@paddyroche2 May i ask why are you on this video if thats how you feel?
Hey...
Please tell me can i change the Graphics card on my Asus G73J alone if its not working or is it necessary to change the Motherboard also
if one were to buy this for gaming, i dont think battery life would matter, most people game somewhere where an outlet is available
well i have owned this lap top for over a week so far and have not had one issue on it other than the battery life but hehhe that isnt what i bought it for so i have no complaints
:( I got the 1600 x 900 instead of the other one, but it still runs skyrim like a charm. P.S Is there anyway to get the better resolution?
Price has gone down by like 900$ now. It's 700-800 now
can anyone tell me if this computer can play "Call of Duty : World at War" without lag or slow motion? cause my current asus isnt strong enough and it plays games like its in slow motion, so im trying to find a new computer, can someone help? and i want a laptop not a desktop

Thinking of buying this but I heard the keyboard has a really slow reaction time. Can someone confirm this?
Do you guys think I should buy this or an m15x with 6gigs of ram 320gb i7 processor and their best video card for 2300? I'm looking to play crysis, oblivion, etc. Thanks!!
@FRENETIC11 what if you rather the snow leopard os?
I know it's a laptop, but who's gonna be carrying that huge BlackBird around for on-the-go gaming? Mostly likely, you'll always be home when using it, so what does battery life matter? I mean, it's a GAMING LAPTOP...

I cant find this version anywhere everywhere else has the 640 gb mem and 6gb ram??
Got it for $1200 in 2010 love it!
@MatthewCentral tigerdirect had a G74 model for 1600 a few weeks back. Nice specs. Best Buy sells em for hundreds less but gimps the video card and resolution.
@duykhang524 yep, the score is above 7.0 other than the hdd

Will they come out with USB 3.0 on this Laptop ?
does it really matter if its not 1920x1080 ?? PLEASE rep
The mobile HD 5870 is equivalent to the desktop 5770 ? 2:00 hmmmm

@RsPineapple Definitely it can at high graphics at the very least.....and probably at ultra too
Apparently it's pronounced, "AY-SEUSS". They had a Taiwanese representative make a video about it.
Which model is this? The x3?
FUnny that you guys would compare to a macbook pro !!! Not that I think they should be compared AT ALL.. I definitely dont. whats the difference in the jh and the jw

@HalfLifeHalfDead G73JH is nearly half the price
its desktop replacement laptop.. portability isnt a real concern..
dug mine out of the closet today still kicking it
@MatthewCentral I haven't seen em with extras. If you get full resolution you should be in good shape. 1920x1080 = good graphics card. 1600x900 = 128 bit gimped piece-o-crap. can you use this with oculus rift
i wanna know if the 6gb ram and 640gb version is gimped and if the graphics card is not the same.. anyone?
I don't know about you guys but I say "ace-us" not "azoos"
you have awesome vids. all needed
Beware the Best Buy models. Better to buy it online.
I turned one of these into a pc because the screen was broken and It was overheating . The heatsinks clog up on these after years of use. Honestly it runs csgo on low at like 60 or 70 fps . very playable lol. nothing like my new pc that does well over 200 fps on ultra
even though this 'limits' mobility in any kind, it still carry-able lol
very good review
Its all good except for the part where one of my rubber studs came off
Hey anyone have the drive disc for this, I cant find the darn thing anywhere
Lizardlips2 can oculus be used on this?
it's for games , battery life and mobility doesn't matter
good review!
@BrainDDR
exactly but then people say to me but why don't you buy a desktop if you don't care about mobility.
i then respond by saying have fun dragging your desktop to a lan party
i heard there is 1900x1200 but i cant ind =(
This laptop came with a gaming mouse and backpack. It is perfect for my need! I can go to my girlfriend house and bring my gaming experience with me!

@wpinoyfcw i just pressed Fn+Esc on mine... it didn't crash.
no I got this Asus G73Jh that $1,200 is the the (tag) after the ring up is done with the 2 year warrent and all that other shit with GQ full cost 1,600. My friend got the next modal and payed less then me
@paddyroche2 Good for you.
@LukeHasGamez Looks like MW2

Apple is a joke for gaming, in my mind, there not even part of the discussion. My G73 is the ultimate gaming experiance specially when you plug that shit into the hdmi input on my tv, it blows my xbox 360 out of the water
Oh my god 8 lbs must be pretty heavy for a nerd like this guy!!!
G Mr. Norman Chan I take my Asus G73Jh on the go all the time it no big deal
Did he say the screen resolution is 1920x1280? lol
Yeah okay I'll keep it as a desktop like my parents let me take out my laptop to anywere anyway...
Apple is a joke for gaming, in my mind, there not even part of the discussion. My G73 is the ultimate gaming experiance specially when you plug that shit into the hdmi input on my tv, it blows my xbox 360 out of the water
what? on ebay it's $1100 aud
@TheGamerLoad DON'T get the Best Buy model! It is overpriced and has a gimped GPU!
don't go to Best buy after for 2 year warrent is don't thay will not fix shit for you and you have to compare the parts in both of those 1st

@TheGamerLoad Hehh...i got it for 880 on ebay. ;)
can this play minesweeper??
the touchpad is faulty by nature.
amazing,i just got one love it.
unfair for an 8 year old video, but your robotic hand movements are a bit distracting.
@FRENETIC11 or your like my sister who doesn't play any HD games and only uses it for school+facebook, and portability. But for me my G73 is coming tommorow cant wait..
But i Agree macbooks are weak and is a complete waste of money.
