yes it does. this is the first video I ever saw on RUclips. Now, in 2021, it seems 15 years have passed...🥳and it will always be special to me. Is he still at it?
I found this on shrooms in like 2009. Notice the guy that looks like he's rolling bobbling his head and shit. so glad I can listen again after forgetting about this video for years. Best part is toward the end.
This guy has been one of my best friends for a long time, and he's always been wicked at this. and to whomever was saying this isn't real -- that it's sped up, A) you're just wrong, and B) if you don't believe me, go to his other vids where there are other people moving around him at normal speed. This guy is the truth, and is only getting bigger. Max, I love you man.
Max, this is unbelievably incredible. I had no idea anyone could play the HD that incredibly. No wonder you won the 2005 Championship! Congratulations!
this is truly excellent. when i was growing up, my father would play his hammer dulcimer at night and i would often fall asleep to 'over the waterfall'. and it really really pleases me when people of my age are enjoying folk instruments. i love that it's becoming commonplace to go to shows to see bluegrass and folk bands play. so, thank you. :)
I can't believe there's a negative comment on this video. This is exquisite and highly advanced playing of the instrument. Maybe you gurus should post some of your talents and prove me wrong! GEEZ!
To be honest with you guys, I don't care whether the instrument is out of date, or whatever, because the dulcimer, along with the violin and piano, are the most beautiful instruments in the world. Respect the dulcimer.
Well, I'm an American and I think this is amazing. As a drummer, I'm more impressed with his accuracy, than his speed, but I guess they are only impressive in combination with each other. Its great to see a young musician that truely knows the craft, rather than your typical EMO output. And proving that instruments other than guitar, bass, drums, and vocals, can be cool.
Instruments very like this have been recovered at sites several thousand years old. Perhaps not 5000, but things like this have been around for a very long time.
this is just amazing! i learned to play the Thai dulcimer when i was little and it was not easy at all. and with the hands of that speed... it is just unbelieveable. thanks for this great video :)
The camera panned away at the slow part, watch past the first part so you can watch him do the fast runs. The camera gets really up-close and you can see that he's really hitting each of the notes. Never seen anything like this before, really amazing stuff.
i want to get one of these for my friend chris he's always playing with drum sticks really fast and I bet iwth practice he'd be good with one of these. too bad they're expensive lol oh well at least i'll tell him about it... amazing videos... adding to my favs
I must disagree with a few comments. He for one thing is doing over 30 notes a second and if you listen closely he never messes up or stutters during the whole 4 min song. Parts of it he adds a drone while doing 30 notes per second a drone. Also he is being judged by some of the best hammered dulcimer players in the world. I think they would notice if he was just messing around on it. Trully that guy is incredible on the HD. Slán. -Wildwoodflower.
Its called a hammered dulcimer, its basicly a lap harp type thing that has bout 64 strings, that you hit with small hammers. The other type of dulcimer is Mountain Dulcimer wich you can find a video of in the video responces
That was amazing! I know very little about the dulcimer, but now I want to know more. Besides being great, you're giving and are going to give the gift of this beautiful instrument to a new generation. Maybe that sounds lofty, especially since I don't know you. Do you do demonstrations in schools and on street corners? That would be great.
The speed isnt the problem, ive played drums for almost 8 years now, and i can catch up with teh speed easily, by playing rolls. BUT, the incredible part is his ablility to remember the melody and the accuracy on hitting the strings with that speed. ok so its pretty obvious that this was improvisation, and i enjoyed it. u just need a bigger instrument ^^ props to this dude!
16 years later and I still love this! Absolutely stunning!
It's amazing how you can hear so many layers of melody, while it looks like random punching.
I was there... amazing, amazing concert. Max was still an undergraduate when he played on this video!
I don't know how the fuck I've stumbled across this video, but it's blown me away!
Damn thats an awesome sounding instrument, with a player to match it
Holy shit. I am extremely just amazed. That was awesome.
Very impressive. If I had hands that fast I would never leave the house! : )
Personally I thoght this performance was absolutely breathtaking.
The Great Grandfather of the Piano, I respect this instrument fully.
i just realized that these hammered dulcimer's are just Manual small scale Pianos. its amazing these instruments are fantastic and sound awesome.
A performance that echoes through time
yes it does. this is the first video I ever saw on RUclips. Now, in 2021, it seems 15 years have passed...🥳and it will always be special to me. Is he still at it?

this guy is incredibly talented.
my uncle is a master of this instrument for nearly 50 years and he was amazed himself when he saw this.
I just saw this absolutely amazing musician Live in union square, nothing short of Unbelievable! buy the cd its GREAT!
Man that guys excellent. The hammered dulcimer has been one of my favorite instruments ever since I seen it played at my church when I was 12.
Wonderfull selfexpression with a great capacity to collect many things for integrate them to one moment of music!
Absolutely beautiful music played by such talent!
I can't believe there's a negative comment on this video. This is exquisite and highly advanced playing of the instrument. Maybe you gurus should post some of your talents and prove me wrong! GEEZ!
This instrument produces some of the most amazing sounds I've ever heard. Now I want one.
amazing. really wonderful. i love that instrument.
a lot of respect here. i don't normally watch a vid this long through to the end. your sound is awesome. don't stop creating.
Fabulous playing Max Z-T~! 'Love that you play sub-melodies- a true dulcimer master. My favorite since 1st hearing Jamie Janover.
Beautiful and echo-y.
Very cool!!! Beautiful and soulful too! Certainty beats the dickens out of anything one might hear on pop radio station today. Great job Max! Bravo!!!
love the sound of it
Talent! Plain and simple.

Wow! Nice sounding instrument and real nice playing!

Nomm098: it's not even about the instrument, just look at how much this kid puts into what he's doing, and the music being made is amazing.
I think the tempo is fitting for this energetic piece, and the music becomes full of life.
Sick. Such a great instrument.
pure genius. amazing.
Dude!! That was soooooooooo tight!!!
That is mind-bending. My roots r percussion n heavy metal so that's the way I hear the hammer dulcimer! I've just not seen it until now!
Beautiful melody. I love the complexity and fire Max puts into his pieces. Sometimes I think he gets just a liiiittle carried away, but not this time.
that was soooo freakin fast! Awesome stuff. Awesome.............
Wonderful!
That was amazing

You dont just wake up one day and be able to pull something like this off. Unbelievable.
Wow!!! That is some FAST playing!!
Unusual technique. He's amazing! 5 stars!
This is really pretty music!
Although that doesn't take anything away from his mastery of the Hammered Dulcimer, this man is a gifted young musician.
Awesome piece man.
Wow! Best ever
WO!
he's got some serious skills!

Well done
verry nice
Fantastic! :-D
Great!
@pajenja I kind of like seeing how the crowd reacts to his playing. It doesn't detract from the video, it enhances it.
It's frustrating that such talent as this is less respected than it should be.
wonderful i like this vid
I like that very much...
GREAT STUFF !! KEEP IT UP !!!! Mario Monaco
the instrument has a lot of rebound so its east to go that fast its just the precision of the notes on the strings is what is amazing

Eric/K Mongrain, a french-canadian. Also damn good stuff. 110% chance you'll find him on here.
that was quite good =)
this is as fucking awesome as possible
Wow. That was awesome! I was thinking it would have been kinda cool if his dulcimer spontaneously combusted at the end...
I would love to see anyone do that on a guitar rofl. Makes u respect some of those old time musicitians we never heard of don't it.
