How did this talented musician and fabulous singer, with that velvet voice not become the biggest star ever? He can sing any style, harmonises with others with no effort and as for playing, since I first heard him aged 11, I was hooked for life - whoever heard of an eleven year old loving jazz? Still love him today and am looking forward to October to see him play live again! Loved you ever since that gig in Mayfair Georgie, you made my sixteenth birthday for me!!
Cynthia Prentice I feel the same about Georgie. Been a fan since the 60's. No other artist living or dead has given me as much pleasure as G F has. Still consistently performing.
james a norwood Not at all the same thing! Stevie Winwood was huge in his own sphere and was a very popular gig to go to in the sixties. We had such luck to be born in a time when music was such an indelible influence on lives! Mind you, not at all sure what my father would have said had he ever known that I frequented certain clubs in Soho and elsewhere, long before I was if an age to do so!! I was very lucky to live in the close London suburbs where all the groups took turns on a circuit of pubs and clubs and all of them became huge stars! The Who were regulars before they became The Who!!
This is a hallmark jazz creation , one of Van's best ever and it's every musician's honor to play. It is as contemporary as the past and of the present. It doesn't seek a place in time but travels through the ages of our lives. This song is always new and everlasting.
Gorgeous. Those I'm afraid, WERE the days. With Van Morrison. Who could ask for better. It's like sitting on an elephant's head, with her baby getting on the best she can, with everybody's smiles of happiness. Love Susan 😷🙏
this dude is my new fav artist....my Dad would've LOVED his style gonna find as much as I can ;- ) this dude has rhythm....inate....like Louis Prima....just pours out of him Radiators do a good version of this song, and I've heard a few others...this one's the best thanks Georgie Fame, in this age of non-creativity (c)rap and dip-slop music, it's nice to discover something new ;- ) I found out about it via some '65 concert with Moody Blues, Beatles, Stones, and Kinks...the only song Georgie did was Walking the Dog, but it was enough to get me searching and ultimately hooked ;- )
Who can remember 60s Flamingo in Wardore st when GF and the Blueflames played there. I was just a kid back then but he was really well known, especially with the West Indian community. Yea he was excellent at what today we call reggae. He is a naturally talented guy who wasn't created by the likes of Mr S Cowell. First time I heard them play I rushed out to record shop and purchased anything by GF. That was before he had chart success with songs that everyone would recognise. One of my favourites was Doctor Kitch. Never got in the charts though did it, shame because it was far superior to the vast majority of top 20 records.
michael sullivan The Flaming in the early 60's was just the coolest club, the Saturday allnighter, great bands Zoot Money ,Chris Farlow, Jonn Mayall, but for me ,Georgie Fame was by far the best.Great muscians and what a great set list He turned me on to so many artists that I'd never heard of.Mose Allison, Jimmy McGriff etc. Doctor Kitch.can't remember who did the original but Ican remember some of the lyrics. I push it in she push it out I push it back she starts to shout Dr KItch it's terrible I can't stand the sight of your needl What a great, time to be a teenager. Bob the one time mod ,
Me too....you must be an original mod....we hitched up west just to see him when The Windsor Ricky Tick closed for the night....great times....The scene, The Last Chance (Oxford St)
I've been listening to this playlist of Georgie Fame--I had no ides he was soooo good, the ONLY thing I know of/by hin is that '60s hit in US Ye ye. I don't thing he was/is popular here in US.
Dude. Same!! I was watching this show about UK performers in the '60s, and Georgie Fame came up. I immediately said, Wait! This can't possibly be the same Georgie Fame that sings with Van Morrison sometimes!?!?! (I'm a big Van fan, so I had heard Georgie sing with him.) I did a bit of googling, and found out he has been performing all kinds of stuff for decades, but is almost unknown in the US
Herre's an old Georgie Fame story. In about 1963 or 4 Georgie and the Blue Flames were booked to play the Ovaltine Ballroom in Kings Langley (sadly long gone). The crowed were expected rock 'n roll and they got modern jazz, so they were booed off the stage!
Ann TwoShoes I played there during the power cuts in the late 60s/early 70s. We played one set with all amps, organs, electric instruments working. After an hour the power went off, so out came the acoustic instruments and no vocals. My dad played accordion instead of organ. Then, after an hour, the power came back on. The band really enjoyed going back to pre-electric music!
Kings Langley was still an undeveloped stagecoach town detached from Cosmopolita in those days, full of uneducated, uncultured Ovaltine and Kodak slaves who didn't have taste beyond malt in beverages and malevolence in music. *winks^

Good question, especially when you consider how huge an international star Welsh singer Tom Jones became from this same era.
Stevie Winwood filled the lane.
Cynthia Prentice
Yes, Georgie had it all ....the complete package.

What an amazing voice! I have his records from 1968 and later. Had no idea that his voice endured the years. I will enjoy his voice from his point on.

If you like that song....you should listen to Moondance...You'll love it!
Saw Georgie live last year. Fabulous. Velvet voice still
Georgie Fame sounds as great now as he did in the 60's - as for Van the man he still sounds good.

Wow!
Why do people think that the words "no copyright infringement intended" give them a green flag for the obvious infringement of copyright?
dat bedoel ik maar 2021 moon danse gaaf!xxx.
I can remember the time Van wanted to sing with Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames at the Manor House North London and Georgie said no!
I can't ever imagine saying 'no' to singing with Van Morrison.
markispostal Van was the singer with "Them" at the time and not the star he was to become later.
+MAJORSNODGRASS Were you there...? I managed the Manor House for a year in the seventies. What a hell-hople it was by then!!!!
+M.McK I was there probably some time in 1965 standing close to the stage diggin' the sounds of the band!

I suspect the crowd at the Ovaltine were into rock 'n' roll in the 60s. I saw Gene Vincent there in '63 and he was hugely popular with the crowd.
very nice ! B L E S S
What rubbish....
Yeh yeh!
