Apply vaseline (petroleum jelly) to the rubber seals??? As a child I had heard that applying vaseline would re-hydrate, preserve the rubber and in extreme cold weather it would help keep the rubber from freezing to the metal framework of the car (then tearing while opening door). I would have tried the other applications, and would have thought any of those might have worked. perhaps the petroleum jelly will be less likely to absorb/disappear. Further brainstorming might be required, but do hope that works.
