  • This time I'm struggling with flushing the Coolant System!
I didn't have the right thermostat seal at hands, so I didn't take the thermostat out and because of that, I had a restriction during the flush, which I couldn't work out.

To flush the engine completely, including the heater core, you need to have an adapter that goes on the filler neck of the radiator and hooks up to an air hose. With air pressure, you can empty the system completely. To clean from rust and maybe chunks, I recommend to fill it up with vinegar and to run the engine until the coolant (vinegar) is hot. And still while hot, drain it again, first open the petcock only and when the pressure is released, remove the radiator cap. And again, once more, with air pressure. Finally, the system is cleaned.

That tip with the vinegar is gold! I'll definitely try that in the future, when I'm flushing it again.

Have you thought about pressure wash the engine one day? It looks quite greasy underneath. It is way better to work on a clean engine. By the way, I also would recommend to replace the petcock. And there is a special tool (socket) available enabling to open and close the petcock with a ratchet.

I definitely thought about that, and I really have to do that! But here in Austria (I think in Europe in general) you are not allowed to wash your car on your property with chemical substances. So I have to get all the washing supplies I wanna use and drive to a car wash.
I planned on doing an engine bay washing/detailing video, as it would show a BIG difference before and after cleaning it properly!
