NEBS Hasley I haven't played with resin yet. I would like to , but I have to wait till the kids are bigger. I like that you can shake it though and the pieces move around
Danika Miles Most pastels won't change colors during baking, but there are some. Reds are what I have a hard time with. It lightens up like crazy. In cases like that I add more color after it is through baking, and coat with a satin glaze.
Pastel Gumdrops Thanks :) They would be cute in even smaller bottles than that too :) I really don't do the bottles, but have always thought they were cute. I will surprise my daughter with it after the E6000 dries completely
Hey what is your baking time on these? I made some for projects and I am not sure how long to bake them for :( I'm at about 8-10 minutes and I am not convinced they're baked all the way
I made some of these necklaces for my family, they are nail art bottles but i filled them with clay candy (Donuts, candy canes, lollipops) and printed out some labels and glued them one with some stick glue. I put them on some colored thread and they are really cool looking. I decided not to add oil because I felt like the top would come off and all the oil would spill out. I didnt glue it because I am slowly adding more candy to the bottle.
oh thats awesome! i am a 13 year old and so i kinda just started pilymer clay i dont have videos on it or anything but i have seen really cool resin pieces!!
Kimmyandderek Osmoond I am using that E6000 glue. I needed to wipe down the top, and ensure ther wasn't oil around the top, then glue it. It say it needs 24-72 hours to dry completely. If you have a dropper to add the mineral oil then you can add the clue around the edges of the cork when you put the cork on. I will tie a orange ribbon around the top too with a bow once it finishes drying. :) Heather
Heather Wells These are so cute Heather! I've always loved snow globes. One of my favorites pieces of jewelry is my floating opal necklace that use to be my Mom's. It has always reminded me of a tiny snow globe. FYI: If you're ever looking for an alternative to the oil, water with a drop of glycerin also works quite well.
I love these cute little bottles, I've been making my jewellery with them, I really like the idea of using the oil, I use resin and a lot can go wrong with them xD Also I used your rainbow lollipop tutorial to make some lollipops and I'm going to use some of the extra bits of twisted pieces I cut up to put in the next bottles I get :3 Thank you for inspiring me more
Heather did you put glue around the cork part of the top?, when you said you were "letting it dry first" just a clarification for the gluing if you can, these are lovely and would love to make some with my kids.
They're like snow globes, but with candy corn. I can imagine some one like making a ghost and putting it in a globe with the candy corn, that would be cute. Anyways this is cool
Ms. Heather, FIY I love this Diy,however I fallowed the instruction and the oil soaked through the cork and stained my t shirt, you might want to add to your tutorial to put some kind of seal on Top and Sides of the cork so the Oil won't seep through! ; )
That's really cute! I hadn't thought of using mineral oil; smart! Question about your E6000 - have you ever used it on your clay and if so, did it ever crack your raw clay? I made a couple of bracelets and used it to bond some metal beads, but before I could bake them (maybe a day later) the clay started to crack where I used the E6000.
Nisa S This is the first time I have used it. In researching I found many sites that use this for sealing snow globes. For my jewelry usually use Aileens Jewelry glue. It leaves whitish spots if it is used on or right next to glaze but nothing happens if you glaze your project after the glue is dry.
Im doing all your halloween tutorials and love the jewelry I wear to work.. SO thank you soo much for doing these. Can you say where you got the bottles plz? or put a link?
Msmickeypink Hi There. :) I am so glad you are enjoying my tutorials. I actually got the bottles and pastels from Micheals. I am going there today. To pick up Paint brushes, Water Colors, and Lisa Pavelka Magic Gloss. I am using my first bottle now preparing for a new tutorial, but I like it so much I want to have another bottle for when I run out.
Hi I tried to make those twinkies or vanilla cupcakes that you showed in a video and after they had bake the pastel had completely changed color I don't that to happen to the cookies I made so how do I fix it?
***** There is a chance oils can leech a little of the color out of the clay over time. I will keep an eye on this to see if it does. This oil is less caustic than other oils I have worked with in the past. I usually don't do these type of bottles. I researchd what others use, and it seemed like this was a pretty safe bet over all. There is good and bad about each material you could fill it with.
Mineral oil? Why are you using that and not water? What is it and is needed? Do you need to special order that or can some find that any grocery store?
Monica Vasquez If you can't find 100% mineral oil, Baby oil is mineral oil with a touch of fragrance. Water can be used, but water can go bad with the air in there. You would have to add other stuff to the water to keep it from turning yucky. I would like to try water with glycerine in the future, but I don't have any glycerin
Is there any concern that the oil will degrade the cork over time? Should the cork be sealed with glaze or something before we glue it on, or is it safe long-term?
shadydarkgirl I haven't sold these ever, and have only tried a few times. I was researching and it seems each thing has it's down sides. Water can become yucky overtime. ANd unless treated the polymer clay can actually absorb a small amount of water giving it a slight different appearance. I place the clear glue all over the side, and top of the cork to try to prevent that. I would thjink sealing it with wax should also prevent that too. I think left alone the cork would absorb the oil. In researching I couldn't find information about the cork and mineral oil reacting. In the future I would like to try the water and glycerine, I just didn't have any glycerine on hand. I won't be selling any of these this year, to watch and see what happens in the next 12 months with this one. I will continue to search reactions between the clay and different oils though, and report what I find.
I have a question, for the Halloween suggestions you said we could only give you one suggestion per day. Do you mean once every 24 hours or once every day/date? For example, if I submitted an idea at 10 pm 9/10/14, but then it turned into 12 am 9/11/14, can I then send another one?
A Touch Of Clay NJ It will soak into the cork. I glued it all around the sides, and completely covered the top of the cork too, to try to prevent this as much as possible. Mineral Oil seems less caustic than the other oils I have heard about using. I have tried researching as best as I can. I think when I have time, I will also try the water with glycerine, but it seems like water has issues getting yucky.
Linsey Houser I use oil to soften clay too. It shouldn't affect fully cured clay. I did some research, and this, or water with glycerin seemed like the best choice. This is the first time I have made a bottle with the liquid. It has been a few weeks, and the mineral oil has not leeched any of the color, and the candy corn still looks perfect. I will watch this til next Halloween, and report how it has held up. I would like to do another bottle with the water and glycerin in another project, and compare them after a year, to see how they compare to each other. If there was any discoloration for either etc..
Linsey Houser I also wanted to drop by again real quick, because this oil is a pretty light oil and has a long shelf life. I would think as oils turn rancid over time, that they would be able to degrade the clay. I wouldn't be able to confirm this without a lot of time, space, and keeping various oils until they turn .. eww.. I just remember when I made soaps and body butters some years back, that the different oils had different shelf lives. I would think as oils turn rancid they would degrade they clay. I mention this only because while researching I found people that used vegetable oil, and even olive oil. Your question is really good though, and should try to make an effort of doing a sample in each liquid, and labeling it, and keep them 2 years and do a side by side comparison.
Ma vie en fimo Baby oil is mineral oil with fragrance, if you are having a hard time finding 100% mineral oil. They should have 100% mineral oil in the digestion/ laxative area of the market too..
I went to CVS for the mineral oil....had the cashier take me to the item, hands me magnesium citrate, bought it and tried it in the bottles and it was just all NOPE!!! ugh...it fizzed and all the pieces floated to the top. It was really depressing =[
Truly awesome idea! Love it.

Cute!!
AMaterialSpectrum Thanks :)
I will be making this once I get some little bottles
Artistic Llama I got these at Micheals, but there are a ton of cute ones on Etsy sold as supplies.
Heather Wells There was a Micheals where i live but it is not there anymore. Maybe at a Joann Fabrics.
Artistic Llama The are lots of cute ones on Etsy. My JoAnns Doesn't have them. I heard Hobby Lobby does, but There aren't any of those where I live.
Adorable! What kind of oil do you use to fill the bottle ?
Isabella G, I am using mineral oil.
*AWESOME SAUCE*
Did you bake the candy corns first?
Yes that is crucial
They're like snow globes, but with candy corn. I can imagine some one like making a ghost and putting it in a globe with the candy corn, that would be cute. Anyways this is cool
Sarah P That would be really cute :)
How about a pumpkin tutorial? I noticed you haven't made one yet and i think it could be a cool idea!
+coolwolfie 101 I was actually filming when you made the suggestion lol. Hopefully the tutorial will be up tonight. I am editing now
Cute! ^^

French macaroons?
Is there anything else I could replace the mineral oil with for the same effect. I only have baby oil gel and water.
its so cute! and can i use baby oil?? because I'm not sure where to get mineral oil

I was wondering if its safe to use baby oil with raw polymer clay for lets say to soften it or make a 'frosting'?
I wouldn’t since most oil is flammable

Michelle1788 one every 24 hours is fine. I am trying to put them on the right day when I am recording. The list is getting really long.
Oh alright, thanks! And can you do halloween stained glass cookies? They're something like this: www.wgbh.org/imageassets/stained_glass_cookies_lg.jpg
I will add it when I get home. those look really cool
For how long do you bake them?
Does the mineral oil eat away at the cork or soak it over time? I've had issues before with other things.
A Touch Of Clay NJ It will soak into the cork. I glued it all around the sides, and completely covered the top of the cork too, to try to prevent this as much as possible. It's been very hard for me to find cheap bulk on the bottles. Any suggestions?
Webkinz4Life9 I saw many listings on Etsy for the bottles. I haven't really researched bottles though. This isn't the type of thing I usually make.
I was able to find a listing of 50 little 18mm bottles, and one for 40 40mm bottles for fairly cheap.
What did you put in the bottle? Clear glue?
Irene Colombo Mireal oil, you can use baby oil though. It is the same stuff, just a little fragrance is added.
Thanks
Irene Colombo Your welcome :) Thanks for watching, and taking the time to comment :)
What is mineral oil please ?
Ma vie en fimo Baby oil is mineral oil with fragrance, if you are having a hard time finding 100% mineral oil. They should have 100% mineral oil in the digestion/ laxative area of the market too..
Can you put baby oil??
Rachel Diaz Baby OIl actually is Mineral oil with fragrance :)

Ok
