  • Hey guys, I am having issues getting the chocolate waffle cone up. I will try to have it up in the next 24 hours. I used Burnt Umber Premo for the cone. I rubbed a little cocoa powder on it instead of flour, I used the mold I made like the rainbow ice cream cone tutorial, but I textured these with a toothbrush after cutting the circle in half before rolling it.
    Here is that tutorial, until I have the chocolate version up.
    Sorry :(

    Veronica,
    I am always learning more as I test new ideas. I usually make a few variations until I am happy with one, and then make a batch. I just make sure not to put anything in the oven that is flammable :)
    I read a lot of polymer clay books in 2000 when I started with polymer clay. I learned about pastels, sand, and dried spices as good additives then. Other things I learned along the way through trial and error.
    Like many fingernail polishes will dry, but then turn sticky after a few months... along with some other glazes. I lost 3 months of inventory after falling in love with a product called Diamond Glaze. The website said it was good for polymer clay. It was thick and clear. I loved it and started glazing with it.. Only to find 4-6 months later everything I used the clay on became sticky. :(

    Wow another amazing tutorial you are on a roll heather !! Ps I think you should make a kinder surprise egg without the plastic part! Ps from an expert to a intermediate, do you ever feel afraid to make a charm with other items on your oven? Like for example baking sand. How do you work this?

      Your welcome :)
      I like using translucent, in cakes and ice creams, because it also helps the items look less plastic.
      I never think about explaining it, so thank you for mentioning it. I will try to remember to say why in certain project, or even make a video showing the difference between an item with an without the translucent to show the difference side by side :)

    Hi Heather, if you don't want to worry about the trademark thing I believe you can just change the name of something. Like Dunkin donuts could be changed to Dipin' donuts. I find that this is what many people do to avoid the copy write issues. Even though it would be good advertising for whatever company you would be imitating, it's better to be safe than sorry. Hope this helps, Dee

    • @heathernwells
      @heathernwells  10 лет назад

      Hi Dee,
      I will try approaching some companies at some point. It is just pretty scary out there. For instance there are a ton of people selling Starbucks miniatures out there. They say Starbucks inspired, and some even change the logo a little bit, but they title and tag their items Starbucks.. So they are still using the Starbucks name to profit... even if they change something subtly. I hope to get better with the computer, and at some point design my own tiny logos :)
      I think you are right about changing the name, and it being alright.. but if it is instantly recognizable, and I would use a brand name to draw people in. I would still worry.
      I think some companies may be okay with it, kind of like the video game companies. If I can get to 50,000 followers I will start approaching companies with my stats, and get permission. :)

  • @monicebeadsdesign

    Heather I don't have sand can I bake some clay as of the color needed for chocolate and mix it in the unbake clay to have the texture? Like so you have on the video.

    • @heathernwells
      @heathernwells  10 лет назад

      Absolutely :)
      To make the pieces small, you can bake a sheet or roll, then use a nutmeg grinder to grind the hardened clay, if you don't want to cut the clay into tiny pieces :)

    Hi Heather, really cute video, it makes me hungry. A couple tips you might want to give your subscribers are about not having a mold for the ice cream. Some people don't have or can't afford the silicone mold mix, so they can use scrap clay to make a mold. Also, for those who don't have black sand they can make a thin rope of the brown clay, bake it, and chop it up in little pieces and add it to the ice cream instead of the sand.
    The kids in your last video sound so cute. Do you do the polymer clay with your kids? I have a boy and he just turned 18. Seems like just yesterday he was playing in the sandbox. Enjoy them while they are young, they grow up so fast.
    Also, I want to thank you so much for subscribing to my channel. I have another channel that I plan on doing my polymer clay items on (DeelightfulClayCreations) but I have been so busy that I haven't had time to make videos. I know you understand how much time it takes to record, edit, and upload your videos. I teach clay classes for Joann's Craft Store and volunteer at a local retirement home so that keeps me pretty busy. I also do nail art and was a cosmetologist for many years. I can't wait to see the Mexican food nails 😃👍 The mojito would have been really cute.
    I really want to tell you what a wonderful person I think you are. The reason I say this is because when you ask for comments you mean it. I have been to many channels where they say "leave me a comment" and when you do if it's not a comment that praises everything they are doing or you make a suggestion they get offended when there is no reason to be offended. Then they send you back a nasty message which isn't a nice thing to do if you want to keep subscribers. However, you don't do that. You have always been nothing but nice and respond with a kind message. You are truly interested in what your subscribers have to say. I want to thank you for that. I believe a little kindness goes a long way, and you have proven it. Thank you for putting up with my all comments, LOL I wish you much success now and in the future. Take care, Dee

      You are so sweet.
      Joanns is where I taught clay, knitting, and crochet classes lol...
      I really liked it, and am thinking of going back after my little guy is in first grade.
      If you do make your clay channel, feel free to leave a link :)
      I do hope people take the time to read your comments. Sometimes I do try to remember to include some in the videos.
      I am so behind on the written tutorials. I was wanting to make one for each video. I felt they are clear, and actually better than the videos. They take so much time, that it would really slow down how often I could make the videos. Do you think I should try to write the tutorials, I am not sure how many people used the ones I had in the descriptions

    Can you make your videos shorter..?

    • @heathernwells
      @heathernwells  10 лет назад

      I am sure as I make more, that I will become more comfortable, and find a way to streamline, and not talk quite as much.
      I see so many tutorials with things sped up, and it is hard to see exactly what the person is doing. I hope that by doing things real time, that people will be able to make their items look like the finished items I made in the photos. There is a lot of dead time though where I explain things. I think if I figure out how to do voice overs, that I can just film myself making them, and that should make them a lot shorter.
      My computer doesn't have much memory and dies often, so it may need to be after I am able to save enough to buy a new computer.
