@@gracecollins8415 what on earth are you talking about?? Have you watched the videos from the beginning? If yes, how did you miss how much they love the stone?? and they love the beauty of the rustic look. They have to follow country codes to make it a livable dwelling for human beings from the animal dwelling it was originally.
cant blame nature for two new curious goats....maybe they want to help?... like new content in the video ..lol.. love what you share with us brother.. hard working man around love ones who will enjoy the amazing home and gorgeous view.!!!!
Love the videos guys. I've been watching you from Australia. Is it something to do with camera angles or are there a lot more houses getting close to where you are? Can't wait to see the rest.
Your hands are stained with aluminum oxide, these are the particles that stick to your skin, don't worry, it's not serious. For the goats: there are commercial repellents designed specifically to keep animals away. In the case of goats, something with a strong smell of vinegar, garlic, eucalyptus or mint, bear repellent works very well hahahaha in a container on the stairs. More complicated is a sound barrier but effective, an infrared sensor associated with a horn, passes an invisible barrier for example along the edge of the roof, sounds the horn, two things will happen or the goat runs away or the goat dies of a heart attack in the worst case there will be meat on the weekend, just kidding but the sound barrier works. The last one is used a lot in the field is: a cable with a static charge that when the goat touches it gets a non-lethal shock, just an unpleasant moment, special kits are sold, it is likely that the mastiff sees it and drives away its flock.
I used to think "what on earth possessed you to buy a stone shell of a dwelling on a steep terraced plot?". But no more. Look at it now...and that view!
It is spectacular!! But I wouldn’t have such an ambition. I can’t wait to see the windows. Stay safe & I think you should milk the goats & make some cheese.
When the doors and windows are finally installed, at least the goats can’t come inside, but they will still come on the roof. Goats will be goats and there’s nothing you can do to stop them from being goatlike because that’s what they are. Goats. I think a dog and perhaps some kind of fencing to protect them from being able to jump onto the roof would be your best bet.
I would probably pick first one. I would guess most horizontal surfaces in their house, like tables and whatnot, are going to be something more treated and slick. So it would fit, also there's the contrast and it's probably easier to clean and wont be affected if something spills.
I’m looking forward to the day that Heather gets to sit in that window seat with a good book and looks at the camera and just smiles. So much love for this amazing family and all their hard work
Have the girls make a stash of aluminum cans with little pebbles/rocks in them. Keep them handy and toss/throw them at the goats (not directly at them, at the ground near them) to keep them away. The cans make a lot of noise but won’t hurt them if you accidentally hit them. This is how we trained our lab not to go up the driveway to the road. We used pennies not stones. But you have so many stones!
My vote for the window sill seats is to mirror the rustic beams. This will tie them together and look fantastic! The home is looking GOOD. And, I've been snarky giggling at those goats...
I will be so sorry to see the original double side wooden window doors finally being removed. I loved it when you opened up with the massive key and made the first coffee of the day with that amazing view.
Funny, your window insulation was also working fantastically as sound-proofing during the filming. Your home has already switched from cold and dank to warm, quiet and cozy. Except for the goats! 😄
Heelers will bite! Found out by renting an Airbnb with one on premises. Was talking to the host and the heeler came over and bit me! The next evening, I was talking to the host again and the dog bit me again! After some research, I discovered that they’re bred to bite the ankles of sheep and cattle to herd them. That’s the way they’re bred. Unless you get them as a pup and raise them along with children, they WILL bite the children’s ankles to ‘herd’ them. They are dangerous around small children if not properly trained and around other dogs, as well. I had to be kept separate from that dog for the rest of my stay there and the owner did say he had to pull the dog back every time while walking him bc he was aggressive towards other dogs.
Brady, you're a machine! I hope that the plumber is there tomorrow and ready to work quickly! Hopefully he sees how much work you've done and gives you respect. As far as those goats go, they seem like curious creatures interested in some attention and fun. Perhaps a visit with your new neighbours, a bottle of wine, some bread and cheese as a peace offering is in order. Those windows look amazing! I think you're probably going to use a pillow covering on the windowsill and some scatter pillows if you all want to sit and read books there. You'll probably need some kind of ties or rubber mat to hold the bottom pillows in place. In that case, the wood will be hidden, but need to be smooth so that the fabric doesn't wear prematurely. Final details, but a fancy, thick piece of wood might not be necessary.
Those windows will be your favorite part of your house. Maybe it's a good time to get to know that neighbor who owns the goats. The music was interesting in this video.
You are the hardest working man I have seen. But it shows the love you have for your family! Cutting out materials from the land and turning something from nothing, worn out buildings to windows where you and your family members can read, dream, write and imagine…. Be proud and very blessed! ❤️
When done, we can look forward to their landscaping ideas. I can just picture Brady making beautiful woiden garden furniture. Not to mention, making and placing wooden benches along the family's favourite mountain walk (up to the ruins, I think...!?)
Love your beam color. Later you can decide if it should be darker. Maybe lay a piece of scrap stained like the top wood, set it in there like a template. Mull over it. Then do a dark color, lay it there. Your decision will be made once electric is finally is on. I personally love the wood color you are using throughout the home.
You are a warrior sir!! Those beautiful windows will be everyone’s favorite place to sit and chill!!!!! Love the wood for the sill, needs to play well with the header but doesn’t need to be matchy-matchy! 💪🏻👏🏻👏🏻🔥🔥🔥👍🏻💕
Hey Brady & Heather, Just occurred to me that your parents must love being able to see you & the progress you're making on Stone House. How fun to have this Thursday video! Thank you, Brady. All is looking good! Ages ago I had asked about the girls having a puppy. Wouldn't a dog be fine company for you whilst the girls are in school & a dog would make your curious goats find your construction site less interesting! Cheers! 😃
I’ve been thinking a thick slab of wood with a live edge would look amazing in those window sills. Sitting in those windows reading or with a lap desk and painting sounds like an amazing way to enjoy that gorgeous view! G😍ATS! ❤
Woohoo 🎉 an extra wkly video!! SOOOO excited for your new windows!! The goats are doing what goats do so I'd suggest speaking with the neighbor just to keep everyone safe during construction. Otherwise it's looking fabulous guys!!💯👌 P.S. the black coating on your hands from the duct work is called aluminum oxidation💯👌
Brady, another great job you did with the windows. As always, you are a very hard worker. Maybe talk to your neighbor,by starting with a friendly conversation. Let them know about the issue and how it’s affecting you. Perhaps they were not aware that their goats were roaming on your property. Brady, if you don’t talk to your neighbor, this may be a situation that escalates. Hopefully the problem will be resolved after talking to your neighbor. Good luck I hope the neighbor is courteous, and the situation will be resolved.
I pray& trust that you get the "big bucks" for your next venture (if you should so choose), and/or live your best life w/ your feet up & your beverage of choice on that beautiful 2nd-floor patio. You've worked 2 lifetimes.

On the window bench seats: do the rustic chestnut wood, sanded smooth enough to be comfortable but not slippery. Reasoning: If you do a varnish finish, the cushions you put on the benches (which I assume will be a fun family sewing project?!) will slide right off when you get in and out of the window seat because of the gloss. Smooth enough wood will still have a little grip but not be uncomfortable when you're sitting on the bare wood. Just a thought. Looking good so far!

Aluminum oxidises almost instantly when exposed to the air. The black oxide layer is easily dislodged, and so wipes off onto your skin, thus staining it black.
Goats love to go to high places, love to jump and are very curious creatures. They also have different personalities.A hot wire is the only thing really. I know with having young girls that is not ideal but then again neither is replacing a slate roof .
The Black on your hands can be Aluminoxide. It is a product of Al over time as the AL oxidizes over time. It is a soft coat and easily brushed off with handling.
You guys are such hard workers and everything is coming along so well. Just remember, this is your day to day job. If you weren’t doing this you would be working somewhere else and giving all your hard earned money to the banks.
Loved the goats , 🐐 I used to have a goat , they are extremely curious and funny. Your visiting goats are very curious. Best part of the video 😂and the beautiful windowsills , I can picture the girls curling up with a book on a cold day , cozy .

As your windows will have window seating, I suggest the semi gloss. It will go very well with the rustic look of the beams and will give the look of well used seating.
Probably the window sill/seats should be the same as the beams. What ever you do, try to start light rather than darker. The exposed stone in the house will be dramatic contrast enough. Even though you have really thought out the lighting in the house, your house will probably tend to feel dark at times. It will all be beautiful. Your wife will help when the interor elements are added. Look around Italy and take note of how they do those nice deep window sills & also how they use them.

Natural wood for the window seats. Just stain (maybe) and then oil them. Over the years they will gain a nice natural patina. 👍
a window seat with storage would be lovely maybe a lift up seat or doors or drawers under it
The aluminium oxidates and turns your hand grey/black, it isn't toxic. I like your progress on the build.
IDEA; run a electric wire fence along the back of the roof to keep them off.
Exactly what I was going to recommend. You can run a solar powered fence around the perimeter of the house. That way they’ll still eat your grass but stay out of the construction zone. 😂
Mmmm goat curry for dinner?

the window seats are gonna get a lot of wear and tear, I suggest you finish them as you said, so they can be wiped down easily.
