A huge Thank You Dr. Berg for explaining this out. I was a vegetarian for practically all my life. I thought i was missing out not eating the fruits anymore. This video has cleared up some questions. ♥️
This is absolutely true. I grew up in the Palatinate Forest and we still have the original wild fruits and nuts growing within it, just as it was thousands of years ago. And let me tell you, the wild apple is the size of my thumb, extremely hard and fibrous, the wild berries all get eaten by the birds and most of the hazelnuts (and to some degree the chestnuts) get hauled away by the squirrels. Not to mention we also have the european wild boar roaming and deer. The amount of animals way outnumber human population and in the end not much if any at all is left for us. Before agriculture and the neolithic era, we didn't have access to daily fruit, potatoes and nuts. Although considered paleolithic, these foods in excess (longer than 1 season) do more harm than good. The wild growing Sauerampfer (don't know english word) is to die for though, unless the rabbits find it first.
But the fibre in fruits slows down the absorption of fructose. Eating fruits is not the same as eating processed foods containing fructose. This coupled with the fact that fruits provide essential nutrients, make them an important part of anyone's diet. Advising people against consuming fruits is not appropriate.

If you're someone who is in great shape and works out a lot, fruit is an excellent snack near your workout in my opinion. That's when your body really can use the sugar. If you're a marathon+ runner especially. Easy to digest quick energy, pair it with a healthy fat and some type of low glycemic index carb to get sustained energy on those extremely long runs, so as your body runs out of the fruit sugar you just ate, it switches to the fat and complex carbs. Not ideal for weight loss though; I wouldn't recommend it to someone doing cardio to lose weight.
BERG, What other foods have Fructose besides fruits? because most foods have HFCS High Fructose Corn Syrup which is 55% Fructose "without the FIBER" which is 100% worse because its fructose directly slamming the liver harder, am I right? 100% of fructose does not go to the liver. It is circulated and absorbed by almost every cell without insulin. It's actually better than glucose or maltose which is why fruit is better than grains. And all those cells have the Ability to turn fructose into glucose easily. Berg should do more research on this
@@simplesimon1436 I agree. God created fruits for a reason. It is the most nutrient dense foods to consume. I drink a smoothie with different fruits ever day and an the healthiest I’ve ever been 😊
I just eat what I want in moderation, I've grown used to it so I just feel satiated quickly and don't want it as much as I did and don't binge on everything. Also I don't feel deprived of food anymore. This does suit my body
What I want to know is: Is it ever acceptable to load up on carbs and\or sugar if I am going to climb a high mountain, or compete in some high energy sport?
I'm 30+, Veg and want to put on some muscul. By far i was a fruit lover but noticed that too much fruits+seating job adds to the belly fat.
Please recommend good fruits as per your experience.
Great video Berg. I don't believe in ketogenic diet but this is good info. We should go in and out of ketosis many times a year. Balance and discipline.
Many years ago, I was re-taught something about fruit from someone who went to "the islands" for ozone diabetes care. They told her to think differently and to consider mature plant seed pods with the seeds on the inside to be fruits.. it opens up a world of allowed fruits - like avocados, cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini etc
Berries would be a different classification.. seeds on the outside (blueberries are weird here)
"I never said fruit was so healthy". Well said, and sober advice. Thank you.

Organic fruit is excellent to consume especially for those with high blood sugar, since you can still consume these sweet foods without spiking BS.
We NEEDED this video. So many in Facebook do not understand this.
I live in a country with no seasons, so most fruits are available year round. Also they are cheap, so I eat at least 3 different kind of fruits everyday. I'm very healthy and lean, and most of the people I know that eat fruits regularly are very healthy as well. This reminds me that every video here on YT must be taken with a grain of salt.
Learn some English. Dr. Berg didn't say don't eat fruits. He said because so many people suffer from blood sugar and pre-diabetes he recommends eating mostly berries. So if you are young or not diagnosed with prediabetes, this video is not applicable to you!

Thank you Dr.Berg. I feel you are so on it! I ate watermelons and nectarines thinking it wouldn't hurt me eating a little bit of fruit. Well....I ate a lot of watermelon and afterwards, I felt so lethargic and emotionally sad. The same feeling I got with the nectarines also. I knew they were high in carbs, but hey! it's fruit! My body immediately reacted to this ingestion. I feel literally depressed and tired. I hadn't felt any of this when I eat cherries or strawberries. My whole system feels strong and normal. I can get through the day happily. It does matter how and what you put in your body. Since being on Keto, I see and feel the difference. I'm happy, I immensely enjoy my food, I can exercise, I'm more mobile and I don't feel ravenous. I'm really satiated. Your intelligence and knowledge resonates with me. In india, we get freshly crushed juices right in our presence by the shopkeeper, of course, you can opt for freshly crushed juice without added sugar.
Please sir , can i know what is the ideal time to eat the fruits ??....... Many say that eating the fruits after 6pm will lead to increase in blood sugar level .... Is it true ???
A huge Thank You Dr. Berg for explaining this out. I was a vegetarian for practically all my life. I thought i was missing out not eating the fruits anymore. This video has cleared up some questions. ♥️
Do vegetarians not eat fruits? If so, I did not know that
This is absolutely true.
Fascinating🤯
I'm starting keto tomorrow! Currently weigh 160lbs 5'3 and goal is 100lbs. Need to clear skin up as well. Will update you all.
Hey, what's your update?
Good luck. I was 160 lbs myself. I'm down to 120lbs but it's tough. Also you WILL plateau. I'm stuck at 120lbs for a while already. Couple months.
what about that update?
But the fibre in fruits slows down the absorption of fructose. Eating fruits is not the same as eating processed foods containing fructose. This coupled with the fact that fruits provide essential nutrients, make them an important part of anyone's diet. Advising people against consuming fruits is not appropriate.
Dr. Berg I wished you were my biology teacher during school. In fact, I wish all biological or biomedical science professors teach like you do. You make understanding our complicated body easy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Dr. Berg you are a Grace from God.. Thank you so much

If you are reversing type 2 and in ketosis.. should i make myself eat a small amount of berries.. or not necessary at all.
If you want to "cleanse" your system eat fruit; if you need to "rebuild" your system then focus on vegetables. For optimal energy they should not be used together at the same time, and you will have so much energy you won't know what to do with it! I have utilized this principal for over half a decade and it works for me.
It’s hard to give up peaches, plums and summer fruits this time of the year......
Eat them as much as you can my friend,. Much healthier than refined sugar
Removing fructose from my diet literally saved me from my awful gallbladder/liver pain I’ve had for about a year

Dr. Berg, I remember watching a documentary on Steve Jobs and the doctor who studied his autopsy results said that he believed his pancreatic cancer to be brought on by his excessive eating of fruit, the sugar causing his pancreas to become overstimulated. Wondering what your thoughts were on this?

me, i'm on keto for about 2 years now to fix my insulin & metabolic issues & i'v never felt better. after cutting out from time to time things that makes me uncomfortable I realized i'm closer to carnivore or what they call it keto-carnivore. now after watching Dr Paul Saladino i'm preparing next year to be on carnivore-fruit diet to give a try & watch the results because i'm feeling some of things in keto that he talked about & the most thing it bothers me is muscle cramps & not maintaining electrolytes from food without supplement or powders
Well, ain't a mistake, keto doesn't suit everyone so you may deal goodly with carnivore
I’m in the same boat with you. His diet really is healthy and easy to follow. I don’t feel I’m lacking anything. The fat comes off and the muscle grows. Awesome.
b vitamins, potassium and magnesium are needed to digest fruits?
You forgot vitamin D
In addition to CoFactors and CoEnzymes
Everything is in raw milk and meat and liver
Most foods have HFCS as a sweetener but it would be nice if you made a video lesson on a list of common foods that have HFCS to avoid them.
I suffer from fatty liver disease and I’m type 2 diabetic. Plus I eat at least one apple and orange a day. I will now eat more berries. Thank you!

Dr. Berg, you are winning the war against diabetes. Keep it up!
So what about growing your own fruit? That's better than store bought right?
Good info.
I used to be a keto fanatic, but then after doing some great research and studying I switched my diet to fruit based and my body and life changed greatly for better
I have to disagree with Dr. Berg on sweeter fruit as the sweetest fruit I’ve ever had was in Jamaica. My grandparents and most of the community where they lived aged healthy and strong. They ate tons of fruit and lived healthfully until almost 100 years old. I think not all sugar has the same effect on the body. Fructose in its untouched form seems to get digested by the body much easier. The factory farms and processed food diet is what is truly the problem.
There has never been an observational study that has linked increase fruit consumption with a heightened chance of diabetes. In fact all the studies I can get my hands on reveal that fruit consumption decreases the likelihood of diabetes. Could this possibly be an instance of a disconnect between the theory and observational reality?
What about fruits that don’t taste sweet, are they still to be avoided? I refer to fruits such as beans, capsicum, tomatoes and okra.
first of all I like your videos, my dad did not eat lots of sugar, our food was not refined that much back in the days and he still got it, because of stress.. refined foods, stress and many more factors can result in a bad scenario.. it is the industry and toxic environment, that is destroying our health, thank u and take care
I've been juicing (70% veggies: 30% fruits) and I don't care what anyone says...its still much healthier that living the S.A.D.
I've noticed how ridiculously sweet bananas now are. I also remember years ago apples, grapes, oranges would go off in a week whereas now it can go past two weeks and they can still look fresh as the day bought. That can't be good 🤔.
in other words...don't bog down your liver with too much, but the key is to balance your diet (if not on keto) and to just stick with berries in moderation (if ON keto).
I've noticed the raspberries and blackberries that grow wild near my cottage are a fraction of the size of supermarket berries, but are oh so good and more flavourful.

because fruits are seasonal while vegatables grow year round
@@mariajonaty9337 then, is it fine to eat seasonal fruits throughout the year?
it is scientifically true. something like blueberries for example... are very good for you but it confuses your body's bio clock when you are eating them in the winter time. so do lights at night, understanding the depth of these things will blow your mind most people cant take it.
its ok to question things, but do solid research before disagreeing.
