Hi Astrid, I read that Faroe Island don't have trees, as in trees can't or won't grow on its soil. I wonder, however, if anyone ever plant Christmas trees ( Evergreen) , or Bamboos, which seem to thrive in cold weather and harsh terrain?
@@pannachawangkul585 hi Panna. Trees can grow perfectly good here in Faroe Island :) But there is something to what your saying tho. Here in Tórshavn are trees most places. But when you get out of Tórshavn, where the sheepfarming is more close to where people love, trees won't grow because of the sheep's. What happens is that the sheep eat the bark of the trees before they get to grow big enough to withstand the damage done by the sheep. And since sheep are absolutely everywhere on these islands, it will be hard to grow any trees :)
@@pannachawangkul585 No upright trees grow there naturally anymore, but flat-lying woody plants do grow. The Vikings most likely chopped all the upright trees down at some point. We know from archeological records that birch pollen has been prevalent there, so birch trees have most likely grown there as well. The Vikings also chopped down most of Iceland’s forests. They just have one forest left there, that almost went extinct. Many mainland Scandinavian trees don’t grow well there, because of the salty soil and air (from ocean spray during storms), so the plantation in Tórshavn was planted with trees from an island in Argentina, that has very similar growing conditions. As Paulimik wrote, no upright trees can naturally establish themselves anymore, partly because of grazing sheep, but also because forests generally don’t return naturally after they have been destroyed. This has also been seen in Iceland.
This is why I love this channel. Opening doors to places I've heard about, but never visited or had the interest....then after the episode makes me appreciate the culture and want to visit and learn more. Great job guys

I had tried many urchins, including my time in japan.. From my experience, japanese one was the best, no metalic or whatsoever. The best thing I can describe the taste is like creamy salmon sashimi. Very delicious!
As a Japanese national, I really envy the way how the people in the Faroe Islands manage to co-exist with the environment by exercising sustainable fishing. The amount of kelp on the sea bed just goes to show how healthy their ocean is. I just wish the illegal fishing boats from China, Russia and North Korea would respect international conservation agreements, otherwise nothing would be left.
@@ashhawk2346 san Thank you. Since I’m against whaling myself, I agree with you. The problem is is that Japan is no longer a member of the IWC and technically their rules no longer constrain them like Norway and Iceland. Also, when the US first came to Japan demanding us to open up our country in the mid 19th century, it was because they wanted to use Japanese ports as their whaling base in the Pacific. US whaling was purely for the oil that the whales produced. The US was then the biggest whaling nation back then, which started the endangerment of these fabulous creatures.
@@sonny9054 Interesting, i didn't know this. Thanks for educating me on the issue. Here's to hoping the whale population gets the protection it deserves, as well as all other illegal fishing around the world.

You say it like japanese doesnt have ilegal fishinh. East asia are famous from ilegal fishing in south east asia
I was enjoying those scenic shots at the end and *BOOM* (in Sunny's style) a random blooper warning started playing.
Those shots were really beautiful. I need more of those.
I'm watching your Joe Rogan podcast almost over much respect, I appreciate every video you post.
I know you've been to some really beautiful places, but the B-roll in this video has just put the Faroe Islands on my top 5 places I need to visit before I die list. Genuinely well done by the BEFRS team...
Sonny: "As opposed to a closed-face sandwich"
Jens: " no that's just a sandwich" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was a little nervous for you on JRE. But all of those feelings went away. Sonny you did it. You held your own. You kept it interesting and funny and fully engaged. You hit the points that Joe would love to talk about (hunting, psychotropics, traveling, aliens, Bourdain...) I tip my hat off to you sir. 3 hours with Rogan is a good stay. I can see you as a consistent guest on JRE. Congrats!
Thanks a lot. I almost pooped my pants at the start.
@@BestEverFoodReviewShow ya you did...after you took that swig of water you calmed down. Instead of cramming it all in one breath...you eased into it and started to have a conversation.
This is shaping up to be my favorite series.
Totally killing it, you team just keeps making amazing content and the production quality is 11 our of 10!
I love how much more Sonny has to be bundled up
Omg this has got to be one of my favorite episodes in a long time! I loved the “remote” vibe. Really does have a strong connection to nature, especially felt it on the wide pan out of the Atlantic straight. Thanks so much for the insight! ❤
You made it so far, all the way to Faroe Islands! Why not take a little trip further and go to Iceland? I would love to see you taste our traditional delicacies! Best regards from Iceland! :)
Don't you guys ferment wierd ancient shark meat, he's probably eating it now
The young chef is so talented and that is how you become a chef. By going to places that your heart takes you too!
That first little place. I kill to live in such a small place like that surrounded by the water and nature 🥰🥰🥰 I'd actually be be in heaven as long as I had a doggo. I couldn't get happier than being somewhere like that until my time is up! That was amazing
I had no idea how beautiful the Faroe Islands are. Another destination added to my bucket list.
Perfect timing! Just sat down after a successful day of organising my chaos, and here's Sonny bringing sunshine 🌞 Even though it's the last thing I need when it's going to be 38°C (farkin 🔥 hot °F) tomorrow when I wake up 🥵 Sending all my northern hemisphere fellow humans some Australian warm hugs 🫂 🤗 🦘🇦🇺🦘
3…8….C? Australia is built different.
Right it’s sooooo cold in Pittsburgh Pa. 🇺🇸
@@jaycutter5815 rite 😂 im in Norristown n its freezing my truck had a sheet of ice on it & 30min later i been inside the house now my body feel like ice ❄ 😢
@@IAmGodHimself777 The C is for Celsius, half the world, like The UK and Canada, uses this measurement for temperature as its far more accurate and easier to understand. Example, 0°C is when freezing starts. Fahrenheit is backwards AF 😆
@@jaycutter5815 I dunno what's worse! 🥵🥶😆
With every episode my mind is blown. Another great video from the best ever food review show EVER!
That chef is a badass. Kid knows his culinary art.
Beautiful place and that horse-clam-thing-that-I-dont-know-the-name-in-english looks really tasty! Good approach, chef!
I was in awe of the scenery 😍
P.s when are you coming to Australia?
Who else here knew of the Faroe Islands bcoz of Vinland Saga?
I’ve been subbed to this man since his first 500k! He still hits different! ❤❤
YESSSSSSS FINALLY. A segment In Europe. I mean, I love your bull testicle/brain/goat liver eating videos but this is honestly a breath of fresh air. The Faroe Islands is one place I would take myself to WHEN I win the lottery 😉
As someone from Sweden I never thought Europe’s food whould be interesting enough for you to come here. So seeing my brother country in your show makes me very happy.
I mean Italian food is bomb
"Im too fat, ill die." got me rolling 😂
hes too honest
He casually throwing that snail back was hilarious 😆
Never thought I'd see you on the Faroe Islands where I'm from myself 😄 great episode, looking forward to the next ones
You're on Joe Rogan!!!! I'm listening to the podcast right now I was so happy for you. I honestly remember thinking that you deserve to be on his show, and now it's happened
