I love your decision to edit this video the way that you did. It's such a powerful way to express that "no one stays on top forever." Even the average person who never possesses any real power will experience some version of what Nucky went through someday. When you're young, attractive, have friends, and a feeling of connection with the world, it almost feels like how Nucky must have felt when he walked down the streets at night, receiving greetings from everyone and knowing that he owned everything. But then, one day, you're older, your friends have moved away or died, you don't recognize the world anymore, and no one knows you anymore - to young people, you're just "that old guy." I imagine Nucky felt some version of that when those drunken college kids pushed past him. "This whole town used to be mine, and now I'm disrespected by random strangers..."
The college kids wore Princeton. Sweaters , where jimmy went , where , his life turned , met Angela …life passed before eyes , full circle , foreshadowing thing
Including when Nucky killed a 19 year old kid... There are some human concepts, some kind of humanity, courage even in the street/ gangsta life, but when an adult kills a 19 year old kid in this kind situation, how it was in this Tv series, this person is just a nonentity.
Fiction gives a sense of Justice and beauty that real life denies us. The real Nucky got away with everything. Too big to fall. He deserved the luck of fictional Nucky, but he got no punishment. Boardwalk Empire was a wonderful series but doesn't scape from lying to us.
Yes, unfortunately no punishment for monsters is common in real life. Plenty of examples, for example German Nazi war criminals living till the old age in wealth and peace in South America, and many more.
@@ktom5262 And not only no punishment, but a lot of people who admire them and follow their twisted ways of seeing life, their ideologies. You have no idea how many nazi admirers there are in South America, in Chile or Argentina, even in Peru, my country, where we got nothing to do with them ethnically. It's unbelievable.
@@Yowzoe But, but Nucky does not get away... At the end he gets killed by some punk kid who held a personal grudge against him. A minor thing, a small mistake from Nucky's past. In that it's a very similar ending to the British movie "Layer Cake" with Daniel Craig.
It doesn't really bother me that they kill nucky in the end considering nucky thompson I'd mostly a fictional character. He actually bares very little in common with his real life counterpart Enoch johnson.
Wtf. I JUST now realized the kid who tore up nuckys money and worked for him was the one who shot him. I thought tommy dormody just randomly appeared and shot him in the last scene. Guess im bad with faces
What I never put together was why Tommy hated him so much off of Jillian's input. Nicky set her up in and had her taken care of after jail. Even though he had no contact with Jillian after Harrow saved him and he was living with the other family.
It's a bad ending. It negates Richard Harrow's story arc learning to nurture and protect Tommy, too. It feels like what they wanted the story to be when they started and the confrontation between Jimmy and Nucky was going to be more epic, last longer, and Richard was a side character. Then Michael Pitt became a problem and they had to write him out, and when the show was cancelled they had to end things quickly and instinctively went back to it. It doesn't work, thematically, and that's a shame.
@@flextoadflexthe actor who played the commodore had cancer during filming and his role was supposed to be much larger in season 2, since he couldn't be set up properly to be the main antagonist, jimmy and nucky's confrontation came to a tipping point much sooner. michael pitt being a problem was just a baseless rumor
@@guggenheim914 thank you. It's sad and frustrating how often I see people repeat the rumors about Pitt. Cast and crew all had nothing but positive things to say about him, and unless one of them says differently I'm not going to believe the tabloid shit
That's fine. Maybe Pitt was great and it was the illness of Dabney Coleman. Whatever the reason was, they lost the chance to do the epic showdown that they wanted. Then, when the show was cut short, they tried to go back thematically to something that didn't make sense anymore. Something that frankly disrespected what happened with Harrow in seasons 3 and 4. It's not the end of the world, and I loved the show. But I wanted to see their original intention, or see them be faithful to the good stuff they came up with in seasons 3 and 4. They missed the ending by a mile.
Now he can take it up the keister like a man in prison lol. Nucky definitely did Tommy's family dirty but Tommy threw his entire future away just to get revenge on a sad, broken down old shell of a man. It's a pretty tragic ending. I'm sure Jimmy and Angela wanted their son to have a better life than this but sadly he couldn't let it go.
Jimmy was literally plotting to have Nucky killed lol. He was given many chances but he couldn't straighten out. I don't blame Nucky for killing him. Handing Gillian over to the Commodore is much more disgusting and unforgivable. It was that act that truly planted the seed for Nucky's eventual downfall. He sold his soul to the devil and could never find redemption for it, even though he tried.
@@silversnail1413 I can’t blame Jimmy tho he only started plotting to kill him after learning about What Nucky did. Yea Jimmy was a shady prick but given who his paternal figure was it makes sense.
@@conmanreloaded4249 I guess I can understand that. Jimmy was a troubled kid, he had a bad marriage and PTSD from the war, plus his relationship with Gillian was horribly toxic and she was partially responsible for manipulating him. Still, siding with the Commodore was an incredibly dumb move. If I found out the truth, I would probably be more determined to kill the actual rapist rather than the man who facilitated the crime. At least Nucky felt some guilt over it but the Commodore didn't care at all, probably didn't even realize he'd done anything wrong.
Well ill never be able to watch the show again due to foreign insurgency but I guess I can abuse the clip deparmwnt when vying for a differential audience
No Makazian was played by John Heard (the dad in Home Alone) but I gotta say facial feature-wise they do look pretty similar. That mayor was one of Nucky’s yes-man cronies for the first season or two then kind of fizzled out of the show when Bader became the new mayor.
Yes. Unreal like Nicky Johnson spent many years in jail for tax evasion. It had finally caught up with him but I like the ending for the show. Less fact based and historical but I like that they didn't forget about Jimmy darmody and his son .. every loose end was tied up.
In the story the IRS was onto him because of the Mayflower deal, where he dumped his shares in the company and didn't pay taxes. In real life he was making in the late twenties a half million annually from vices.
This show, for me, was doomed about three weeks In (or around episode 4 and 5). And the reason for that actually had nothing to do with the show. I loved it. The last ep I saw was with the army sharp shooter guy with the face mask and they used the classical horror music... I think Dracula.... Brilliant. But another show started around the same time at similar scheduling and between Historical gangsters (which i love) and animated corpses eating the flesh of the living, I had to go horror..... The Walking Dead stole me from this show and I never went back..... And anyone who gets upset with me because of that, lol, I left walking dead the first ep of ALL Out War, and came back to see Rick leave only. As far as shows now, the Mandalorian, Loki, and Rick & Morty... Reruns... The office duh.... Should I go back and watch this show? Does it end up going full Dexter???
This show ended brilliantly. viking is another show that had a great ending. I also watched walking Dead and I can at it got a little strange after Rick died and they had a lot of scattered storylines but the first 4 episodes of this final season with the new show runner has been the best season yet. Just the premier was better than any other season except for the pilot. I'd recommend finishing TWD even if a few season suck is definitely worth it if u made it to all out war. Season 10 wasn't bad either. The Whisperers storyline was great. Another show called Winona Earp on Netflix is one of recommend. If you ever seen the movie Tombstone you'd unerstan the storyline but it is a supernatural funny and pretty brilliant take on events that transpired at the OK Corral and centers around Wyatt Earp doc Holliday and others. I'd check them out.
