Back in those day, nothing was really set up for organized crime. It wasn't mafia as we know it, more street gang who get united by tradition. So if Gyp knows how to keep his street and make money, nobody was going to kill him for being a hothead.

This scene and the Vito car crash scene from the sopranos illustrate why you have to be very mindful of your attitude when your alone with strangers. You never know what kind of psychos are out there.

This is a good distillation of Gyp’s flaw for the entire season done in one short scene. His insecurity, especially about his intelligence. His inability to separate emotion and behave rationally. Even when someone is trying to help him with no ulterior motive, because they aren’t completely deferential and they’re just the slightest bit condescending; he can’t stomach it. He can’t get out of his own way.
And the guy was being classic East Coast Nice. He'll complain and swear a blue streak while he fixes your flat tire. West Coast Nice is just the opposite. They will talk nice and pretty while not helping you at all.
Just caught the fact dude didn't even shake his hand at the end... he was literally tempting fate lol

I remembered this scene. I like it. It tells you everything you need to know about this character. Reminds me of No Country for Old Men with the store owner and Chigure. At least Chigure gave his would be victim a chance to play for his life.

Wow i never knew that Regina was Queen in Italian! I always thought it was Latin! Im from the UK and Regina is used in our queens title, and any latin titles or emblems on her monarchy owned companies or assets. I beleive with her it refers aswell to 'queen of her own' as in she didnt have a king when she ascended. Queens before her have also used regina in their names and have that title e.g ''Queen Elizabeth 2 R' the R being Regina. I never knew it was Italian aswell. Probably both derived from Latin, but now this scene makes so much more sense as to why he actually lost it.

You can tell from the reaction of Rosetti’s guy’s at 0:54 a button got pushed.
First time we see him he’s staring out to sea just as he is when he meets his end.
Sometimes it's not that deep: he refers to the slight that set him off as he's beating the guy to death. "What else could it be??"

But, he accepted the guy saying "didn't mean anything by it" and was about to let it go. Then the guy tells him what "Regina" means in English, after Gyp told him he was from Italy, and he refuses Gyp's handshake . That was going to far, and Gyp beat him to death not only for the "what else could it be" insult, but the straw the broke the camels back: Regina.
Some people get used to the way they talk to others because they rarely come into contact with someone who demands respect. It’s better to be polite, especially to strangers.
