I enjoyed this video and it shares my own experiences since I own both a 2020 R/T and a '14 GT. You are so right about the 5.7 being underrated. It is extremely quick off the line despite the weight difference. The 400 rated torque is key apparently. I find that my GT's 420 HP Coyote engine really kicks in at the very high RPM level. It puts you back in your seat. A fun comparison for sure and I think anyone would really enjoy either model unless you are into serious racing. Most owners are not and just enjoy their quick rides.
In the grand scheme of things, Challengers aren't that heavy. In fact they're kinda light when you consider the average car weighs more than a Challenger R/T in 2020.
Nice video, I am not sure your friend knows how to drop his gears to a higher rpm when roll racing. I have an RT but do plan on eventually going for either a Scat Pack or a Mustang GT with PP1 like yours.
Get a Barton short throw shifter with two post bracket , steeda transmission bushing mount, SVE braided clutch line and a SVE clutch reservoir it should eliminate alot of your lockout the next thing would be to upgrade your clutch
To prevent the lock out I try to shift at 6500 rpm and make sure your foot is pressed hard on clutch, also consider getting a stainless steel clutch line
NIce Video! I think my favorite races on youtube is the Camaro SS VS The Mustang GT it is pretty much a drivers race. Each side likes to say one will smoke the other but I have seen an a lot of videos with each car winning. Whenever I see those two line up it adds the suspense of which one gets it.
You have a very nice 5.0! I suggest you look into getting a short throw shifter from Barton, MGW, or Steeda. I love my steeda triax. Doing so, will help prevent 3rd gear lockouts.
I've owned a manual Mustang GT (2018) with the performance pack, I own a 2020 Scat Pack manual currently, as much as I love manuals, it is difficult to beat an automatic, even with more power unless you are really dialed in. I also have a C-6 Corvette Automatic and even though the GT and Scat Pack are tested slightly faster and are more powerful than my older Vette (430 horsepower), I've never got the acceleration numbers that I can get in my Vette. You are really just buying a manual these days for the love of the experience of driving them, the same stock car in an automatic is almost always going to win at the track.
OP, check and see if your manual trans has a “skip shift” feature. My Scat Pack does, and under hard acceleration it’ll lockout 2nd gear. Some say it’s for fuel economy, others say it’s because gear ratios being so close you might as well skip a gear. Either way, it’s annoying, and can be eliminated all together.
Lock out is a genuine and annoying issue on mt82's but shift accuracy can still cause some grief. On my 2019 gt with the mt82 and stock shifter (with aftermarket urethane shifter bushing and trans mount insert) i have found the following- 2nd gear is not straight back from first, you need to hug toward your leg as you pull back, so back and to the left to get into 2nd when shifting fast under power 2 to 3- the shifter will try to self center you into 3rd as you shift, if you deliberately push over to 3rd you can overshoot the gate and hit between 5th and 3rd, try to just push forward from the back of the shifter ball and let the mt82 self guide into 3rd, try just pushing it in regular driving to get a feel for how the shifter wants to aim for 3rd on its own. This should get you shifting at 71 to 7200 rpm pretty reliably unless the clutch is overheated. Shifting beyond 7200rpm is a bit of a crapshoot on the stock clutch but the power is dropping off at this point anyway unless you are tuned.
Coming late to this video but to answer the question about why the R/T was doing better at higher speeds.. The R/T was using his auto transmission and it has a gear skip starting at lower speeds the car will jump from 1st gear to 4th gear if you push it... Would suggest R/T switch into manual mode...

But I have only had this 2 weeks not sure what the previous owner might have done to it. Plus I only raced a Charger, BMW, and a guy in a g35 wasn't sure what he was thinking but i guess we both had fun.
I love the challenger classi look. But the stang is up next for me in classi style. I feel like camaro should have done more 60s'ish style tucked wit the oversized updated circle headlights... 😭 WOW
Awesome video. Tbh. Probably should of done the runs from a stand still more that's where the challengers and charger perform well. It's legit the weight and power. For example a jeep SRT and the Durango SRT they make 700hp they set a quick 1/4mile run. But all this has to be done from a stand still. It's how fast the car can accelerate with it's factors of wieght and power. If the SRT was to do a roll race it falls flat on its face since it's power was balanced out for digs not rolls. It's obvious a heavy car would be to heavy to create a lot of speed. A lighter car will have issues with traction from a dig and wouldn't launch as well but once it gets rolling it achieves a higher speed. That's why a lighter car will always run faster at roll races due to the fact it's lighter. Scats will hands down put up a good fight especially a 4 door sedan charger against a 5.0 from a dig at around 100 to 120 it will fall flat on its face and get passed by the stang. But then facts are facts. The scat may have 485 horsepower but the car definitely weights 4400 pounds while the stang is 500lbs lighter. The stang has a higher advantage that most ignorance is left out saying it's a smaller engine. Definitely it is smaller but that things has dohc advantage which what keeps a car going on high rpm. Modding the stang with e85 and bolts on get these things going even farther. The 6.4 hemi being a single cam only gives out the natural power it packs to deliver which is a monster but modding it would only get it to be as fast as it can go til you have to do some internal modding. Even though the main reason would be the parts are limited and really expensive. The rt in this video would of probably been neck to neck on a dig or got the jump if it were from a dig. But stang would win once it hooks up and reels in. if it were the scat it would walk the stang from a dig until it approaches a speed where it falls on its face from it's aerodynamics and weight. Even at roll racing the scat would hang on until it gets up around 110 to 120 were again it falls on its face while the stang continues to go and go.
I think the title is backwards lol Looks like he only got you that one time because you missed a shift, which isn't a legit race to me; deserves a restart. But good runs man, love both cars. Subscribed.
The guy with the challenger R/T is losing power because he straight piped his car ive researched into it there’s other ways to make ur car louder but it’s not my decision just a heads up for anyone who plans on straight piping their cars!
Does a muffler instead of a straight pipe still lose power ? I’ve heard mufflers / exhaust kit add like 8-12 depending on car and which exhaust. Can you confirm ?
Yep, I have a 300c hemi, I removed the middle "suitcase" muffler and it felt slower. Then I got flowmaster 40s put on and bbk Shorty's it was definitely faster
Elder Leos if u remove ur mufflers u will be losing power u would have to get a specific pipe to make up for the lose power or tune up ur car and add other things it’s a lot to type up lol
Get some Steeda or BMR stop the hop kit. It'll make a world of difference then get the MGW or Barton Hybrid shifter and you will gap that dude easily. If you get lighter wheels, that'll gelp a lot as well.
Haha good runs man I wish I was around your area I’d do some runs with you, I can hardly find any big mustang crowds around GA just a lot of old dudes who love cruising nothing wrong with that but they’re very reserve, and then the kids with the eco boost. Lol I just gotta keep looking I’ll find my pack eventually
I'm on the younger side but I think I'd rather enjoy cruising with the old dudes haha. I guess I got all of the racing out of my system with my first mustang. I'd race anyone for any reason. Now I have one with almost twice the power and I don't want to race anymore
I’ve never been “locked” out my gears, when “racing” or hitting max rpms to me you can’t drive/shift your car if your getting this result, that’s an excuse for driver error, don’t blame your car dude.
I have a 2019 6speed manual r/t with super track pack and I beat a lot of 392s I have definitely noticed a lot of people just don’t know how to drive their cars.
Nice! I plan on getting an RT, any v8 is an upgrade for me coming from a v6. I think an RT realistically is more than enough for me, my car now feels quick lol. 392 would be overkill in price and power for me I think. Does the RT punch you back in the seat from a stop? That’s what I mainly would like and the sound
@@Quintolloo challenger RT yea you get that pushed into your seat feel. I noticed this because my cousin got a 18 chally RT and I have a 17 charger RT, same amount of HP, he has a little bit more torque, charger a bit heavier, his chally seemed to pull much harder.
I have a 2017 R/T; Do Yourself a Favor and Get a 392 Scat Pack if you can afford it. A hundred more HP. I’m saying because Once you have a 5.7 , You are going to want more Power and it’s a lot less money for the 100 HP on a 392; it would cost a heck of a lot more for the 100 HP on the 5.7. I guarantee that you will Want more- It’s addicting. I could not afford it; That’s the Only Reason I got an R/T. I’m Old School. Love the looks of the Challenger; If I could do it all over, I would have found a Way to get a 392 Challenger; Even if I had to borrow some money from my family. Everyone has a different situation though. I am grateful for what I have; because I love the way it looks. But I don’t Race at All because it’s a 5.7. Mustang’s Always have a large Weight Advantage. The NEW Camaro SS has probably the best HP for the dollar. But like I said I love the Old School Looks I have. Good Luck to Getting what you want! Just trying to warn you about HP and what it can do to you.

From a dig 0-60 they would be pretty equal. Both make around the same torque numbers stock.
Can someone please tell me why people go to mexico when they wanna race?
🎉congratulations on your 1k subs
That Challenger Is Sick😍 YEEAAAAAH 5:46
I love your mustang and I’m a challenger owner. 😂
Are the 6.1 hemis any fast? Thanks
L M V same speed as the new 5.7s
It’s a 5.7 with a srt badge
I think the title is backwards lol Looks like he only got you that one time because you missed a shift, which isn't a legit race to me; deserves a restart. But good runs man, love both cars. Subscribed.
Screw you! Winning is winning lol jk jk
I have a 19 r/t lol
@@drestrepo5631 true. A win is a win no excuses.
😂”my ears blew out”
Good stuff
Dodge really calls my attention. Love that fkn mureal muscle car 👀 look. Uuffff!!!im buying one 🥰🔥💣
Can you do a race from a stop?
yeah we just wanted to roll race for the vid
It's the manual man. Hard to best the new modern AT cars.
1:32 the blue stinger 🤤
Haha good runs man I wish I was around your area I’d do some runs with you, I can hardly find any big mustang crowds around GA just a lot of old dudes who love cruising nothing wrong with that but they’re very reserve, and then the kids with the eco boost. Lol I just gotta keep looking I’ll find my pack eventually
I'm on the younger side but I think I'd rather enjoy cruising with the old dudes haha. I guess I got all of the racing out of my system with my first mustang. I'd race anyone for any reason. Now I have one with almost twice the power and I don't want to race anymore
I beat an R/T before with my C5 mine and his were both stock, mine was automatic too, I can't believe the R/T beat the 5.0
Well actually glad I did pick a Charger R/T Black top
What hemi have 420 hp first time hearing that Ik they ranged from 395-410
cain TV the Scatpacks have 485
Reg hemi got 375 hp ,scat 485 with 392 , etc
Nate Heyward Ik
Foreigns 2 ik
The 6.1 hemi came with 425
When he said he had a good chance of winning i though of rush shift winning against multiple mustangs
The mt82 you really have to make sure your clutch is in all the way when you shift
I’ve never been “locked” out my gears, when “racing” or hitting max rpms to me you can’t drive/shift your car if your getting this result, that’s an excuse for driver error, don’t blame your car dude.
@@udogtexas big facts. I didn't want to seem like a dick tho lmao
You guys around Irvine??
yes sir
@@caffeinatedmotors You guys drove from Irvine all the way to Mexico City? Now that's dedication . . .
Actually in this case it's all about torque.
Holy crap! It's Beavis! from beavis and butthhead.
Mustang owners are our brothers
American muscle ❤️
The ticking was probably just lifter tick
