This proved that Daemon is not unhinged, undiplomatic, or a power monger. He honestly wants his family to be strong and do well and tries to make that happen no matter who wears the crown.
This absolutely does not prove that. It proves that he’s smart enough to make a political maneuver that gets him into the good graces of his king and brother. Even at this point his plan is to marry Rhaenyra so he would be king.
He cares about his brother, but he cares about himself much more. Why would he want to be the King of the Stepstones when he can be King of the Seven Kingdoms?

@@rickyrobby8133 I think that plays into their point. Daemon was willing to play the game properly to get the crown, he wasn't going to backstab his way onto the throne even though he had more than a few chances to take shortcuts.
Weird how some folk read a script acted out so very differently but I agree with the response from @rickyrobby8133 that it "proves " nothing of the sort.
Agree that he cares about his family but disagree with the first sentence. Daemon is THE most chaotic character I've ever seen. He doesn't give a damn about any rules or what anyone thinks, and he will do whatever he wants. It's just that a strong Targaryen dynasty IS one of the things he wants.
He'll go to a war his brother doesn't want to, because he wants to. He'll be willing to take a second wife while his first wife is still alive because he wants to. He'll take his niece into a brothel and make out with her because he wants to. He'll provoke people left and right if he doesn't like them because he wants to.
He's the walking, talking definition of a loose cannon. I do think he perceives Targaryens as being above all men and all laws, the greatest thing that ever happened to Westeros and he intends to keep it that way.
Daemon may give him shit and Viserys may have his breaking points, but at the end of the day brotherly love is strong

It may not be that surprising. My wife tells me that his iteration of the doctor in Doctor Who would sometimes delve into the dark and threatening, compared to other doctors.
Matt Smith has range.
He was great in the Crown as Phillip, he can be a real douche when he wants. Apparently, he can also be anything in between that and the Doctor, so he’s just an amazing actor.
It’s true, his Doctor was a goofy dork but every now and then he’d let a menacing dark side slip through, a masterful contrast.
I've only seen him in Doctor Who, but the episode when he found out Amy had been taken showed he could do the quiet rage and terrifying murderer so well.

The whole context of the situation is so great. Daemon is just a perfect mix of cruelty, strength, recklessness and charisma with a little sprinkle of loving his family. I like some aspects of this show more than GoT because we dig deeper into these complex characters

As someone with 3 brothers 2 of them being older they did such an amazing job showing their brotherly connection, the scene after this where Daemon and Visareys are laughing and telling stories is so good

On top of that, everyone sees him as Maegor reborn so no one trusts him and they expect him to turn evil at some point. The best he'd ever get was the mercenaries, cutthroats and whoever else would follow a strongman ruler just to beat on the nobles, but the book and short stories makes it clear Daemon is not loved by anyone, just feared and he revels in that reputation.

The stepstones isnt a kingdom tho they would have to do a whole ass conquering again after they jus fought a war there. Not a smart move, plus they lose it later on in the season, meaning daemon as their “king” wouldve prolly been executed
