    One athlete who I felt always had incredible beam skills was Ludmilla Ezhova. Her first acro combo was insane in its creativity. She absolutely should have been the gold medalist in 2001 beam finals as her routine was far more creative and smooth than the one that did win (and who won reputation alone).
    Sui Lu was another one who was incredible, so smooth and fluid. Her 212 beam routine was more of a gold medal worthy routine than her teammate’s. Chelsea Memmel was the first I saw to do lots of huge acrobatics on the beam. Simone is fantastic on beam… when she hits.
    I still find Pauline’s signature skill confusing- but really cool.

      I like Biles, but her beam-work officially became overrated to me this quad. It's average composition with a big dismount--which is fine for the AA but not for an EF. So I hope she makes dramatic improvements if she intends to compete for gold in Tokyo.

Kyla Ross from the U.S was something special though. Simone Biles is a great beam worker as well she's fearless & daring on this apparatus. When she is on nobody can touch her. She makes it looks so easy she's a beautiful beam worker. Beam is the best event its tests mental strength, one's determination & confidence. The gymnast needs a will of iron.

    • @Plaspos
      @Plaspos 2 года назад +2

      @@gymnasticfan9148 not really much competition on beam tbh, she has the most beam golds and most beam medals of all time. As much as I love Liu Tingting and Guan Chenchen, they only defeated Biles because of Biles' mistakes, which even then were still enough to medal. Not to mention that being in 7 major beam finals and staying on the beam in all of them is insane in its own right given how inconsistent beam is vs. vault or floor. Ponor hit 6/7 in major beam finals (medalling in only 3/7).
      I'd say the only beam workers in the last ten years who could have defeated Simone at her best were probably Iordache, Sui Lu, and Deng Linlin.
