    Paddy Considine did an amazing performance as King Viserys. I applaud his acting in this series. He will be missed. That being said i will also miss his character Viserys. I dont care if people say he was a weak king, he was a Targaryen who’s coin landed on the good side. He was a good person and such a caring father to Rhaenyra, he truly loved his daughter and protected her.

    Viserys coming into that throne room was the highlight of the episode for me. That alone was deserving of an emmy. Ironically King Viserys' strongest moment was when he was literally at his weakest. That walk to the throne room you know had to be the longest walk of his life but he did it for his daughter because she needed her daddy and he showed up.

  • @silversaturns
    @silversaturns Год назад +6599

    When Viserys walked through the door, I started crying. He was literally falling apart, but he heard his daughter beg for his help so he mustered everything that he had left in him to do so. You just see the immediate relief wash over Rhaenyra just by seeing him there. He’s not the best King, but he loves Rhaenyra so much, has always supported her happiness and would do anything for her, and Paddy's performance really touched my heart today.

    I think the Dance of Dragons really shows how fragile the Targaryen rule was to begin with. Viserys would always be remembered as the King who's decisions ultimately lead to the death of all the dragons, but it was bound to happen at some point. Aegon the conqueror will always be famed for taking over Westeros, but that was the easy job. Actually maintaining rule and passing it to future heirs is the hardest part of the Game of Thrones.

      @@w.a.s5819 He was a great politician that united the realm. He was a flawed husband and a pretty bad father tho which led to his houses own avoidable problems. Aegon is actually remembered as the King who killed off the dragons tho. Fair or not. His moniker of Dragons bane was what ppl remembered.
      Succession isn’t a problem most of the time. But if you’re a weaker king and don’t firmly establish your succession then it makes sense that ppl will put up their own claims for the throne. The realm had a great counsel who’s decision set precedent that woman cannot inherit. So assigning a female heir is going to cause a divide. Many Lords who supported Viserys to his face have no problem siding w/ a male heir if he’s willing to reward them w/ more lands, titles, favor. Viserys choice of Rhaenyra when the Counsel chose him over Rhaenys was terrible politically for him.

    Honestly, what literally made me cry the most: When Daemon helped Viserys up the stairs in the throne room, I instantly started crying. It was the first real time we got to see them together where they weren't fighting, or hating each other, where they realized that life is fleeting, and Viserys deserved a not a consort to the king, but a brother in that moment. The other time I cried was when Viserys got but a few fleeting moments of what he thought would be his families finally getting along and turning a new leaf. And knowing the horrors that fell the Valeryons and the Targareyns (I never spell their name right), makes all the more sadder.

      It reminded me a lot of my own father's last weeks. He died on March 10th, 2022, four days after his 83rd birthday. He had dementia, leukemia, and a heart condition possibly caused by side effects of the leukemia medication. He also hit his head during two really bad falls the week before. After the second fall he was barely conscious and did not speak more than single syllable words, but Viserys here reminds me a lot of my father in the time between those two falls, when the in-home-hospice nurses first started administering Morphine (basically milk of the poppy) to keep him calm. He had some more lucid moments during that time, especially compared with the extreme agitation of the prior couple weeks when he would wake me up screaming every couple hours and usually have no idea why once I came to check on him.

    That throne room scene was such a masterpiece. It depicted so many subtle nuances. Especially between Daemon and Viserys. Daemon helping him up the last few stairs and placing the crown upon his head shows that despite their differences, Daemon was always true to his brother and his family. Then almost immediately followed by Vaemond's act of treason and Viserys drawing the blade to have Daemon serving as an extension of his hand deliver the swing. Also symbolizing that Daemon was always meant to be hand of the king for Viserys and that he needed somebody who can make the hard choices for him. Viserys' biggest mistake was casting out his brother. All Daemon said to him back in E01 was the truth.

      Indeed the court scene in episode 8 is a big reference to episode 1 where Viserys cast away Daemon. Had he chosen to believe his brother instead of his hand, things would be different. Viserys never had the power to make tough choices, Daemon could do that for him. Chasing away any threat to the dynasty. In that moment Viserys cut his hand by the throne. Had Daemon remained as his hand, he could save him even from himself.

    Paddy Considine as King Viserys was simply amazing! I couldn't imagine anyone else playing this role. The scene where he showed up at the throne room unexpectedly floored me. The love he bore his daughter was fierce and powerful, and I think an extension of the neverending love he held for his true love Aemma. Even on his deathbed, he showed up for Rhaenyra. I think Daemon gained a new respect for Viserys during this scene. After once calling him a weak king, Daemon now began to understand the mental and emotional strength it took to hold a kingdom together. It took more than just brute strength. Viserys mental strength gave him physical strength at a time when no normal human being would have such strength. Daemon could only acknowledge this side of his brother that he never knew. I think he was amazed by it. It was very sad to see Viserys go. I hope Paddy is nominated and wins an award for his performance as King Viserys. This was definitely a tv royalty performance!

    Paddy Considine was an absolute BEAST the first 7 episodes but his performance in episode 8 was otherwordly. That scene with him and Emma in the room made me cry like a baby. Changing the character of Viserys meant taking a risk with many of the book readers in the audience but when I say I could have seen no one else play him, I mean it. His depth and humanity, his love for his daughter, the resentment he carried over what happed with Aemma, his conflicting feelings towards his brother and cousin. Hope to see this man be recognised for the immense work he's done. The entire cast haven't let me down one bit and I'm enjoying the show just as much as I did the early seasons of GOT, from the music to the acting, the cinematography, the foreshadowing, the humor... Brilliant work from everyone involved (I'll let those beach scenes slide this once). Even after the Dance of the Dragons, this is applied to all-male heirs to the throne, regardless of whether an older daughter is present. But let's face it: Aegon - the eldest son - wasn't born to rule (he's very reminiscent of Joffrey Baratheon). Aemond might still be able - but that would be just as stressful. Since Aemond reminds me too much of Daemon and nobody wanted him as heir to the throne (at least not Otto). I can understand Viserys wanting to keep his promise. Does that make him a good king? No!
      He should have done things differently years ago in terms of succession to the throne, and he could have removed Rhaenyra - who is at odds with her destiny as heir to the throne - as heir and appointed Aegon. That would most likely have saved a lot of suffering.
