The key difference in my opinion why Game of Thrones stands out compared to other shows that tried to do what it did, is that Game of Thrones' source material was meticulously laid out over decades of writing, where as other shows often only have a few years of writing at most. Other shows often have amazing first seasons as those are the ones with the most time and effort put into their writing as the creators work to get the story picked up for production by studios, but their later seasons often only have one or two years of writing put into them, as they have to produce a new season every year or two, leading to padding and a noticeable decrease in quality.

What wasn't mentioned here is that Otto Hightower, the main rival of Corlys Velaryon and Daemon Targaryen, the future king of the Stepstones, comes from Oldtown, which is west of Dorne. Trade ships from Essos hence don't need to cross the Stepstones to trade with House Hightower. It is likely that Hightowers actually benefitted from the Triarchy as it redirected trade from the east coast of Westeros to the west coast. These schemes have layers upon layers.
I just watched Game of Thrones again it's the most satisfying tv show that I've ever experienced. The gore could be removed, implied is better to showing in my opinion. Lost is a close second. edit: although, I wasn't thinking of the English translations of The Witcher, which were only published from 2007 on. But still, the GOT seasons all aired with one-year gaps, except the last one, which was universally panned.
More of these
What wasn't mentioned here is that Otto Hightower, the main rival of Corlys Velaryon and Daemon Targaryen, the future king of the Stepstones, comes from Oldtown, which is west of Dorne.
But I can't get over the production value of GOT. Some minor dialogue and plot choices that didn't sit well with me near the end but by the end, I had a good feeling about the show. I don't think I'll experience anything like this in my lifetime but I'm glad I saw it.
I love to explore these lands in a open world game.
Essos is so freaking interesting man especially the eastern parts of it. Don’t get me started on Sothoryos.
I need more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This dragonbusiness sounds really cool. HBO should make a show about that!
Billions of people in the world.
Yet there is only ONE story that entertain us all!
love GoT!
