If they (anti-independence) are indeed Catalonia's silent majority why are they reluctant to test it in an officially and legally recognised plebiscite (referendum).
They don't want to risk their future and identity because of some separatists. The aftermath of such a referendum would be a huge mess, it would make brexit look like a child's game.
Such a wonderfully made short documentary. Takes equal time to explain the left wing, the right wing, and the centrists who just want everyone to get along.
It's not true "hundreds of thousands" demonstrated for Spain's union. Some thousand at the most, ten thousand last year. On the other hand you do not mention there are 1.5 million who demonstrate for Independence every year.

With anti democratic behaviour from the Spanish Government an EU member, it is not hard to image why people voted for brexit. The EU is anti democracy and the Catalonia Independence movement proves it. The Spanish are authoritarian why do you think they also have started demanding Gibraltar and its free citizens be turned over.
As a long term Aussie resident of HK I see many parallels in Barcelona with the current protests in HK. HK people are also fighting hard to retain their autonomy against the ever powerful state. They risk losing freedoms but fight they must. Thanks Eric for this piece.
