As a German I can honestly say, that this song sends shivers down my spine. All the emotions and events associated with this are just hauntingly mesmerizing.
Kenne ich...
Not a german but not far away from you lads... Such a incredible and touching song
yeeeaaasssss thats what i was going to comment as well..beeing from germany i literally tear up like every time i listening to the song..having goosebumps the whole song..this is for real my all time favorite song..there are lots af great sonsgs out there and i enjoy lots of them considering them to be my favorite..or whatever but deep in the inside of my heart there is only space for this diamond of a song
Is there a German version? I'd love to hear it 🇩🇪
This song came out when I was in high school from 1989-1993. During that time, the Berlin wall came down, the Soviet Union collapsed and the cold war of 40+ years ended. At that time, the song seemed contemplative and cautious but also hopeful about the future.
Now, 30 years later, with the Russian invasion of Ukraine and seeds of a new cold war between western countries and Russia and China, this song makes me feel so sad. It seems that cycles of peace and hope never go on forever and will inevitably encounter these periods of senseless war and oppression.
This is not older metal bro.. It's timeless music I bet this song will be relatable till the end of the world
So true man
Exactly
Yes it is old metal he's right. In that time, 80's we called Hard Rock to Metal bands as Scorpions, AcDc, Aerosmith, Van Hallen, Bon Jovi, Queen, Def Leopard, Led Zeppelin. Hard Rock was the lowest category in Heavy Metal degree. In the 80's the Hard Rock scene was "dying" to be replaced defensively by Heavy Metal in 90's. So today even to Hard Rock bands we are calling Metal. An example in 80's to bands like Metallica, Megadeath, Kreator, Destruction we didn't called Trash Metal we called them Speed Metal. Back to 80's, we didn't have power Metal, or Trash, or doom, grange, etc., we just had 4 categories of Metal scene, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, Speed Metal and Heavy Metal Symphonic.
Well, ya
I don't think they can feel it today. :( The birth of metal. A gold standard example of metal and the power ballad joining and becoming one lol . Mmm
Its too bad our celebration didn't last very long as Communism is spreading again, like a plague. And I mean our as in MINE, my father escaped Communist Poland and I know what it is so for anyone wanting to @ me that I don't, don't bother.
To me Klaus Meine is one of the very best rock vocals in the rock history. He's a legend.
For me as someone from Germany it's really cool because the Scorpions are originally from Germany but then moved to the US and became international Rockstars.
Yess!! I think that he in Freddie Mercury are much better male vocalist than Robert Plant but tell that to so many Rock critics because they'll always pick Robert Plant every time. Wth?
@@montrelouisebohon-harris7023 maybe because Robert Plant is just god himself ! I mean seriously how could you not put Robert as the same lvl as them ? Give me a good reason... Well i stop you now, there is not because he is definitly ONE of the greatest vocalist in the history of Rock N' Roll
This song is liquified emotion. I'm crying every time I hear it.
Greetings from Germany. This song means a lot to us over here. It meant overcoming errors from the past, becoming whole again, and despite I was born shortly after the reunion, this spirit is cemented in our people. It's reflected in this music, in the liberty loving techno of the 90s, the german nightlife, especially in Berlin, and all of that just spells hope, peace and foes becoming brothers. That's why I love my country with all its flaws and problems.
All people can connect through music, and I really think if there's one chance for all people on earth to stop hating each other and work on common goals, it will be through music, not through conquest or anything else.
Well said♥️
Scorpions - Still Loving You
YEEEESSS
2nd
Oh the song that caused baby boom in France in '85.
that's what I wanted to say :D I think it's even more intense :)
It's a beautiful ballad but i can't listen to that song anymore... brings back too many memories and they're not really happy memories... Rock you like a hurricane would be my other pick.
if you think this song is powerful imagine being old enough, like myself, to remember all of the events depicted in this video as they were happening. To you this is history to me this was the evening news.
@Gripen Draken I remember this very clearly. It happened Nov. 9, 1989, my 11th birthday when the Berlin wall came a tumblin down!!!!
This must hit really different. I cant even fathom.
I hope you are well and healthy in these strange times. Stay safe stay healthy.
same ... powerful memories
Yes. I remember. I was 17 and was stunned and glued to the news. The clouds parted and the future was so bright. It felt like witnessing the dawn of a new sunny day. I wish we had that still.
it is history now but the cold war was a big burden for all of us, who lived trough this time. I was 19 when the wall came down and was in Berlin. The sentiments of the cold war are also captured in Stings "Russians" and Billy Joels "Lenningrad". Both songs highly recomended.
I am a Iron Maiden boy but I can say with strong faith that this is one of the best songs so far in the history of music. 👏
Pure kitsch, just "Last Christmas" is more kitschy....
One of the worst songs ever...But to be fair: Klaus at least hit's the notes not like Bruce Dickenson...
funfact: iron maiden did play as an opening act for scorpions
This song brings tears to my eyes every time I hear it. I served in Germany while in the Army from 1986- 1989. I saw Scorpions live as the headliner to The Monster's of Rock concert at the Nurnberg Zepplinfeld in 1988. This is the site where the Nurnberg trials took place and I watched from the podium that is in the old videos of where Hitler stood reviewing the troops. Standing there I couldn't help but think about the changes that had taken place in the world, and that was a perfect segway for the changes I was unaware of that were about to take place. In January of 1989 I pulled border duty at O.P. Alpha. Looking out the tower across the "iron curtain" was something that was overwhelming to my mind. I also made a couple trips through East Germany to Berlin and stood face to face with Soviet Soldiers. Even looking back it all it still seems surreal. I left Germany in May of that year but by the next summer the fall of the Berlin wall and the Soviet Union was the focus of the world. The first time I heard this song the magnitude of it all came into focus. It made me feel that in some small way I a part in it all, and maybe even just one note in this song represented me. That is the beauty of music! We all want to feel like we make a difference, that this all means something. When I heard this song it made me feel like in an insignificant way I contributed to something inconceivably huge. For that I am eternally grateful, because that feeling will be with me until the day I die.
grigoriorifiel thank you for your service.😊💕
I lived in West Germany 84-86. I was a kid 10-13. Loved this band. He needs to watch the peace festival they had in Moscow in ‘89 or ‘91?
Thanks for sharing this
Thanks for your open words. I'm living in Germany, next to this old border (since 1970), but your experiance is much broader (with the soviets) than ours, to be honest
@@udofrombt I was stationed in Wildflecken, and lived in Einraffshof-Shondra. I loved my time there.
This.
This song is the song of peace. The same level with "We are the Champion" as the song of sport.
Scorpions write some of the most beautiful lyric and music in my opinion. They master of making sad guitar riff. Born to Touch Your Feeling,Holiday,Still Loving You etc.
Not the kind of music you take to gym, but the kind you listen alone. Thank you for reacting this great song. Really take me back to chilhood time
Still Loving You, oh man those guitars on that track, Alex, listen, seriously, do it
Agree 100%
And Send me an angel.
We are the champions is a bit overrated imo
Dude I agree with you but there is so much more into Scorpions than their ballads. They were actually pioneers of metal and have influenced many metal bands even ones like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. Listen to songs like Blackout, Rock you like a hurricane, Alien Nation, Virgin Killer, The Zoo, She's a Woman He's a Man and many more. I'd actually suggest you listen full Virgin Killer, Taken by force and Blackout albums. They are one of the best hard rock bands ever. It's a pity to only recognise them for their ballads.
I'm a 43yr old Army brat, dad did 24yrs an retired..I joined the USAF, did 10yrs. I witnessed the end of the USSR, and the fall of the Berlin Wall. This particular song is like an anthem to our family. Also happens to be one of moms favorites!!!
I love metal, but Scorpions are one of the very very few bands that can give me genuine goosebumps.
Not only from the awsome lyrics, the perfect voice and tone to the emotion that is palpable in this voice.
just one word for this song... it was, is and will ever be a MASTERPIECE
Kitsch is the word you're searching for...
I remember crying when the Berlin Wall came down. My uncle’s family was hosting a German exchange student at the time and he was heartbroken that he couldn’t be there. What a day for freedom!
Calipop _74 ...so much promise, only to end up with the overbearing EU and homogenisation of cultures
where were you when the wall came down? "I was in sandusly ohio with a host family."
@@ronanrogers4127 hey, this song is meant to bring up the spirit of those days again. We don't need nihilism right now.
The EU is crumbling. People are waking up. Donald Trump, Brexit and it's party in the elections the isustainability of the EU without military dictatorship is open secret. They need a military and an unarmed population.
Finland should leave the union just because Fixit has such a nice ring to it
Helloween - I want out or Eagle fly free
Another fantastic german band!
Rqoiz I want out 🤤🔥
Rqoiz ..YEAH, do Eagle fly free!! 😉☺
Lets go full length and request Halloween by Helloween ( full version of course ) ;)
Hell yeah, "I want out" is a masterpiece.
I’ve requested Helloween for the like 2 months and still nothing. They get no love :(
I was in West Germany from 1988 to 1990 I saw the Wall and when it came down the parties and the celebrations.✌✌✌✌✌
Today's generation has never known a world with two Germany's
I do because my country had to face both of them in a world cup 😂😂.
@@iaraya lol
Just two koreas
Psyche bro what 😭
@@teddypratama8086 Nice and Spice Korea? Who paid for the wall between them? Mexico?
Klaus has one of the best vocals in rock, sounds the same live.
We have seen them like five times since 1980.
Ric Rat just watched them last night. With def Leppard. Great show.
Respect 👍
Ric Rat yes, he does! He and Freddie Mercury along with Michael Jackson in the USA blow me away every time I hear their voices. Had Michael Jackson not told queen to release “ another one bites the dust” that album and song would have never gone quadruple platinum in the USA. It just goes to show what can happen when these wonderful musicians work together. The scorpions are an incredible band and this man’s voice brings me to chills❤️❤️
Miljenko Matijevic from Steelheart
J. Perry also
Bruh!! Old school Mtv! Seriously you are diving into my summers in the 80s watching Mtv for three weeks straight!!
this song is not from the 80's :)
RoySFord same here. MTV all summer. The best time 👍
1990 is close enough
And now imagine being at the wall when it fell, complete strangers fall into each others arms. Although, I was very, very young, I can still remember that day. #Berlin
Hi , I’m from Germany but I’m born years after all this happened. Still this song is impressive my grandparents and parents told me story’s about that time
Hi Alex!
Modern metal bands are cool but there's something about classic bands that you can't overlook! Scorpions are known for their power ballads. You get goosebumps from every single one of them. You could check out Still Loving You, Holiday, Send Me An Angel, but their most popular song is Rock You Like a Hurricane (definitely not a ballad).
James D jeez man these songs you mentioned are pretty much a masterclass in power ballad writing.
Still loving you is just fucking amazing! Still gives me chills to this day.
*No One Likes You* , *Blackout* , *You Give Me All I Need* , *When The Smoke Is Going Down* , *Always Somewhere*
@@sugoruyo check my list before too, bro
there is nothing like 70´s Scorpions, In trance, Virgin Killer and Taken by force pure heavy metal
I'm from Russia and did not know that this song about the USSR. thank you. I learn a lot from your channel!!
So, you can understand English speaking person in the video , but you can't understand the lyrics of the song? Because the first words are making clear what Klaus is singing about...
Polka Dot. Wow, no need to be an asshole.
A couple years ago, I had my 7th graders analyze this song, it's one of my favorites. They loved it and I introduced some kids to a great group. After they analyzed it, I had them read an article about why the Scorpions wrote it. Love them. Enjoyed your video!
This song is a masterpiece. To me,as a central European, this is a part of our history. The uncertainty of tomorrow, the crave for freedom...
Hey Alex.. 😊 ..wir lieben Dich auch!! (..we love You too!!) 🙄
Thanx a lot in the name of all the german Hefnerds for this special greetings!! We appreciate that!! ☺☺

If you had lived those years, you'd understand better the meaning of that song! Hi from Switzerland!

Sure.Excellent choice!

Does it really matter? Have you ever heard a bad song from BG?
Anything from them would be a nice introduction to their music so it doesn't really matter my friend! You're right!
I can only imagine hearing this song again for the first time again. I remember when it came out and it blew us all away. Thanks Alex for letting me live vicariously through you.
My family is German. They fled Germany during the end of WWII. What his band has done is incredible, closing the gap from the west and east. I've seen The Scorpions live once, and they were phenomenal. The didn't play this song, which was a shame, but a band coming from that time period, that place and doing what they've done. They're amazing. This song hits the feels.
How they could have been closed a gap that's already existing?

Gojira - Silvera! Great song!
I'd like to see Gift of Guilt live
This was such a personal song to me back then. Still is, actually. The Berlin wall fell in '89 and it shook the world. Then the first Gulf War started in '90. Being 17, there was a bunch of anxiety around if all of us were going to be finding ourselves up to our eyeballs in sand in some other country in a year. A year later, I graduated. A few months later I fell in love. A few months after that my heart was in shreds. There was so much change going on in the world and my life, and this song was a catharsis for all of it; the sad, the sweet, the scary, and the euphoric. I can look back at all of it now, even the most painful parts, with fondness now when I hear this song.
What I love about this particular channel is that I'm watching a younger person have the exact same reaction I had when I first heard these songs in the 80s and 90s. It's so great to see the appreciation for this type of music because it had such an impact on all of us who are over the age of 35...roughly.
I was stationed in Germany in 1987-89 when the Berlin Wall came down. Kind of a scary time. Nobody had a clue as to what was going to happen. I was in an Armor Unit while serving. I was a M1A1 Tank crewman ( driver). Thankfully nothing bad happen when the wall came down. I've seen many concerts while in Germany. Proud to say I seen the Scorpions ( Savage Amusement Album) open for Metallica ( And Justice for All Album). One of my all time favorite shows. Scorpions have a ton of good songs. One of my favorite is The Zoo. Check it out!
I was there as well, Mainz-Finthen, went to Graf cold war on, left the field cold war over. Was a very strange time. Saw Monsters of Rock 1991 on FAAF, my barraks were just across the street from the stage.
I agree, The Zoo is one of the best Scorpions songs. I hate it when people only pick the radio hits. That usually tells me they aren't really die hard fans and never bought albums. We all know if the album is worth a shit then the best songs are going to the ones not released on the radio.
I was stationed in Germany in 1987-89 too. Armored reconnaissance unit Leopard 1A5. In retrospect surprisingly, we did not even have a higher alert.
So basically you were part of the mistaken order to open the gates? Kinda sucky way to end a war really.
There's no "good" way but still the confusion would've made the gate keepers borderline suicidal
I grew up when all of this happened saw all first hand and remember when this came out the emotional time when the Berlin Wall fell.... thank you for the memories
"the wind of change blows straight, into the face of time."
since time is forever, they've played a literal timeless classic.
Klause does the whistling live during performances. It's incredible. Something so simple but so pretty.
\m/ Alex, just like with Ronnie James Dio you get to listen to a singer that has actual talent and doesn't need a voice synthesizer. Great song. \m/ =D
I saw them live this year, and he sounded great
\m/ You gotta love a band that keeps going even after 50 years of making music. \m/
Klaus Meine is one the greatest! And Scorpions of course.
Even today I still get goose bumps and tears in my eyes when I hear this song. One of the best ballads I've ever heard.
aaa...scorpions... the kings of metal ballads.
Scorpions - Still loving you
The most beautiful metal ballad ever
SCORPIONS the best band in the world!!
You have to react to No One Like You by Scorpions. It's one of the songs they're known for and I know you'll love it.
An petty sure they are best known For Rock You like a hurricane
William Douglas Yeah, both that and this song.
I hear those 2 songs most by Scorpions with a lot of other songs by soooo many other bands on the Rock Radio here in Denmark.
The other song to hear from 2012 their magnum opus Humanity!!
I love their music...their songs are so powerful. Greetings from Germany:)
I totally forgot how powerful that build up is right before and how that guitar solo starts. I actually teared up, I forgot.
I remember being a kid and paying to watch the Moscow Music Peace Festival on pay-per-view. It was an epic concert with Scorpions, Skid Row, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, and many others showing Russians how to rock! Please react/review (if you haven’t already) to Wasted Time by Skid Row, November Rain by Guns n’ Roses, No More Tears by Ozzy Osbourne, One by Metallica, Thunderstruck by AC/DC, Janie’s Got a Gun by Aerosmith, Get the Funk Out by Extreme, Dirty Love by Thunder, Kickstart My Heart by Motley Crue, Little Fighter by White Lion, and Fallen Angel by Poison.
Scorpions - No one like you
I used to listen to this at boarding school on repeat. Brings back so many memories. What a ballad.
Just checking this out now Alex, great great choice. In my opinion these guys and Triumph blew every other band away at the 83 US Festival. They were absolutely amazing. You can buy the DVD but it's on RUclips as well if you'd like to check it out. Van Halen was the big draw here but they couldn't match these guys either. Thank you, this brought back many memories for me. Klaus is definitely a legend.
Scorpions - Yellow Raven, In Trance, When The Smoke Is Going, Still Loving You, Holiday, Always Somewhere...
In my opinion Living amd dying is better than in trance
Scorpions - When The Smoke Is Going Down, Still Loving You, Yellow Raven.
I was in high school when this song came out. After years of fearing a nuclear attack, the cold war was ending. If they ever make a movie about it, this song had damn well be in it! This song did more than any ambassador, to end the cold war.
Love you Alex. Have loved Scorpions when bought their first album. Love them
everytime tears in my eyes when i see pictures from the "Mauerfall" (fall of the wall in Germany) its amazing how much energie and emotion in the peoples faces (sry for my bad englisch)
cheers from Berlin Brrrrah

I wanna thank everyone for their service. I was just a kid during this time, but watching footage from then is just surreal. Peace.✌🏼😊
I first heard this song in the 90s on a friends compilation album and it's given me goosebumps ever since 🤘
Holy Crap Scorpions are legendary bro. Anything off the Blackout album is GOLD. Try the album title song Blackout and prepare to level up Alex. ; D
Damn, haven't listened to that song in sooooo long. Gonna have to see if I still have the CD or even the tape somewhere.

Nah he's had to have heard that one before. If he's going to do Scorpions again I vote either The Zoo, Blackout, or Big City Nights.
@@justtheshotgun Ah man The Zoo for sure, but the live version!!
@@justtheshotgun he already heard enter sandman before he has to hear it. But yeah the zoo remastered edition or no one like you
Man, the Scorpions have so many amazing songs. One of my favorite bands of all time. I first heard Wind of Change when I was in 5th grade, 89 or 90 I think and have been a fan since. As I got older Id buy their older albums and damn theyre such a talented band with amazing songs. Crazy World has 3 of my favorite songs. Restless Nights, To Be With You In Heaven (listen with headphones. the guitar work is phenomenal) , and Hit Between The Eyes.
Best reaction I've ever seen, to goose bumps! This song is too perfect, congratulations Alex, you had a real emotion, I was thrilled when I saw that this song touched your soul!
Duuuuuude, I've been listening to this my whole life! It's one of my parents' all-time favorites, and mine as well. Makes me happy to see you liked it so much! A nice follow-up would be Under The Same Sun, it's in the band's following album and in that EPIC '94 World Cup soundtrack. :)

For all the young people (under 30?), this song meant so much more than you're seeing. You're watching snippets of the fall of Communist Russia! It was an amazing time. Like Pink Floyd playing by the Berlin Wall before that fell too!
German here, born '97. Although I haven't been there, the scenes caught on tape were the people are finally free to go to the west always make me become emotional. Seriously this is always heartbreaking since you know you had relatives for whom it was a very special moment.
Personally i always see the hope the people had during that time and it gives me motivation to try to change the world I'm living in for good.
I'm 35 and as many times as I've heard this song and seen the video, I never did my own research (yeah I know, DUMBASS) and had no clue is was in reference to what was happening at the time. But I guess the phrase, 'you learn something new everyday', wouldn't exist if it weren't true.
This is the song of dream of a better world, that unfortunately is going worst and worst. Is always actual
Oh I know bro... Romania. Born 1991.. Ceausescu and communist Romania. If the locals hadn't done a successful coup and killed him I'd have been in an orphanage and died at age 1 at best.

Alex, brother, I gotta say, as a rock enthusiast, you genuinely break my heart just a little bit every time you say you've never heard of a certain band or artist n this one hurt a little more than most because of my stratospheric love for this band, but you seem to repair that damage with such genuine appreciation for the music n I really thank you for that. This iz some righteous ass work you put in, so keep on keepin on, bro🤘🎸
