In this video, James was playing a 12 string/6 string combo. 12 string guitars have a mixture of two octaves - the strings sit next to eachother so you can play normally and create a bigger, fuller sound. Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin famously used a 12/6 combo and guitar virtuoso Steve Vai even has a 3 neck guitar. Shred guitarist Michael Angelo Batio has used guitars with up to four necks and he is capable of ambidextrous play. The guitar would have 2 necks available for either hand!
I think Alex should react to Led Zeppelin. This band influenced so many rock and metal groups. And like you said (and I said it to in a comment to one of the previous Alex's video when he reacted to Zakk Wylde) Jimmy Page made 2 neck guitars famous.
Some people don't like when they have to read more than 1 line. I think your comment was good, answering the double neck guitars question. It's great for songs that utilise both guitars in parts for one musician. That way when performing they don't have to switch instruments inbetween. There's different mixtures as well. In the video it was a 12- and a 6-string, but there's all sorts of different combinations even with bass guitars or just two different tunings for a 6-string.

You gotta listen to A Little Piece of Heaven by Avenged Sevenfold. It’s another love song, but a little bit twisted. They play that song every time for their encore, and I know you’ll love it!
Tallica fan since 88 and I hate this song with a passion. I just don't appreciate James' voice for this kind of song. Even earlier stuff like Fade to Black and the First 2 verses of One. I just don't enjoy the sound of James' voice over a soft and subtle score. I don't think they mesh well.
Bro, listen to Apocalyptica's cover of this song. It lacks the vocals, but it's so beautiful, it doesn't need them! Also, if you want amazing messages in a metal song, try "We Are the Others" by Delain or "Light Me Up" by Kobra and the Lotus. In my opinion, these two songs are songs everyone needs to hear, if only for the lyrics. They are near and dear to my heart, and I would be interested to see what you have to say about them.
Metallica: The Thing That Should Not Be Live (Seattle - 89) It’s probably the best live performance of that song. It’s also my favourite song form the MoP album.
you should listen Metallica "unforgiven" and "unforgiven 2"... I remember back in the days early 90's they played those three songs "nothing else matters", "unforgiven" and "unforgiven 2" in every junior high school party😎 perfect songs to cuddle and make out with gf 👌😜😁👍 oh those were the days...

Nightwish, Epica, Within Temptation, Voyager, Sabaton, Sonata Arctica, Blind Guardian, Stratovarius, Orden Ogan, Savatage, After Forever, Delain, Symphony X, Iced Earth, Helloween, Dream Evil, Fear Factory, Amaranthe, etc, etc. So many bands in so many genres you are missing out on while you do repeats! Easily my favorite song growing up. So glad you enjoyed it Alex, it's such an amazing feeling to see someone experience something you love for the very first time.
Hey Alex! This is a truly magnificent song. It sounds simplistic, but it has a lot of depth. They asked Michael Kamen (a famous British composer) to enrich their sound on this track and he wrote the orchestral lines that (due to Lars Ulrich's ego) can barely be heard. There is the "Elevator version" that was a B' side on the "Sad but true" single where the orchestral lines are clearer and it gives you an impression of a different song. This is what defines a great song. For each one to play it in his own way and always sounds amazing. Shakira played it with Spanish guitars, Apocalyptica played it in cellos, even Gregorian played it in a church choir way and it ALWAYS sounds amazing! Keep up the good work and have a dope ass day!!!! Greetings from Athens, Greece!

This "was" my first song I ever learned to play. So simple & yet it sounds just majestic. Love it.
React to *In this Moment* ! You'll fall for Maria Brink so hard !
Yes! Too many to choose from!!
Roots, Joan of arc, whore, Adrenalize....this goes on and on!!!

Great list! I might only add some Amorphis to this 😁
@@tinaaikaa77 How about Amorphis - Under The Red Cloud?
Then may I add some Dark Tranquility?
If you do unforgiven you have to di the whole trilogy
Yes kissing the shadows has to be done. It's like hangar 18 but with keyboards
We played this song at my brother's funeral as Metallica was his all time favourite band. Nearly 2 & a half years later I still struggle to listen to this song because I instantly start crying
YOU REALLY HAVE BEEN LIVING UNDER A ROCK OMG HOW THE HELL YOU HAVEN'T HEARD THIS SONG BEFORE
Also, I'm pretty sure that if you react to St. Anger you will consider it a masterpiece or something.
A big ass, fucking rock dude. I live in africa and I've heard this song on a local afrikaans radio station
Some people just don't listen to certain kinds of music.
The St. Anger thing is just plain wrong too. Nobody considers that a masterpiece. Even people who don't listen to Metallica agree that album sucks
If anyone really believes that all these videos are really his "first time" hearing these songs and that he isn't bamboozling you into a view so ha can get paid, you're a moron.
@@frigglediggle2 Pretty sure "first time" just means first time actually caring about the fact that it's playing, but why not name it a little clickbaity when you go through the effort of making and uploading videos with the potential to make some money off them?
@@jackoventer444 hello fellow South African
React to Batmetal
I know I say this a lot, but I really want you to see it :D
Edit: Batmetal first, then Returns and Forever
I second this!
Returns and Forever too

The absolute most beautiful love song of all time. I have cried every single time i've heard it, from the first time to this time, and every time in the future, beausse its that pure.
You gotta listen to A Little Piece of Heaven by Avenged Sevenfold. It’s another love song, but a little bit twisted. They play that song every time for their encore, and I know you’ll love it!
Philip Matthew Di Salvo yyeess fucckk
but, alive version, with the rev /,,/
You have to listen to Harvester of sorrow Moscow 1991 live..... One of the greatest Metallica performances ever, the energy if amazing
This is metal asmr
Bro, listen to Apocalyptica's cover of this song. It lacks the vocals, but it's so beautiful, it doesn't need them!
Also, if you want amazing messages in a metal song, try "We Are the Others" by Delain or "Light Me Up" by Kobra and the Lotus. In my opinion, these two songs are songs everyone needs to hear, if only for the lyrics. They are near and dear to my heart, and I would be interested to see what you have to say about them.
Love your reaction vids man. You bring so much energy to this space. Keep doing what you are doing!
please rect to The unforgiven!!! best music ever \o/
so i dubb the unforgiven
Unforgiven 2
kenneth kamble unforgiven III
Unforgiven 1 is the only one I've heard of the 3 but I love it
Metallica: The Thing That Should Not Be Live (Seattle - 89)
It’s probably the best live performance of that song. It’s also my favourite song form the MoP album.
Alex! Gotta do some or all of these:
Pink Floyd - Time
Metallica - Blackened
Foo Fighters - Everlong
Rage Against the Machine - Fistful of Steel
Dude!
This is meant to be a metal reaction to METAL!
Floyd and Grohl do not belong here.

I was fortunate to see these guys in the 90's...beyond amazing

I get butterflies when I play this solo perfect
you should listen Metallica "unforgiven" and "unforgiven 2"... I remember back in the days early 90's they played those three songs "nothing else matters", "unforgiven" and "unforgiven 2" in every junior high school party😎 perfect songs to cuddle and make out with gf 👌😜😁👍 oh those were the days...
Early 90's? Unforgiven 2 came out in '98.
ROFL
yeah I forgot when that song was released... I thought it was earlier... 1998 I was 20 and in non-military service 😅 my memories are little fuzzy
KingNothing 97’ spastic
Please react blackened, the four horsemen, the thing that should not be or harvester of sorrows by Metallica. They are all amazing songs. Glad to see another metallica song being reacted today
most often a double neck is so you can have two guitars tuned differently for two different sounds and dont have to try to pick up a different guitar midperformance. it makes things easier for the guitar player.
This song gives me goose bumps every time
Ahhhh!!! One of my favorite Metallica songs, but come on man!
You do an awesome job which is why I'm hoping to get you to explore these bands that I and a lot of others want to expose you to!
Good list! I might add my favourites Amorphis and Wintersun to that 😁
Symphony X is the best band
Respect sir
Shit Amaranthe Released a new song recently called countdown, he should give that one a shot
Metallica is my favourite band!!! Anytime I’m in hard times their music always helps me to realise that everything is going to be ok in the end. Can you react to Metallica - Turn the page. Your reaction vids are amazing keep it up !!
Nothing else matters makes me feel like no other music at all!
This is a f**ing masterpiece indeed!

It is so beautiful!!
ALEX you must hear Allegaeon! A great introduction would be “Proponent for Sentience III “. You’ll definitely love it bruh
I've literally been listening to Metallica since conception so I don't remember what it's like to listen to Metallica for the first time, but your videos bring me such joy. I can experience it vicariously through you. You have such an expressive face and you don't hold back at all and I AM LIVING FOR IT!
React to Beartooth please! Aggressive, The Lines, or The In Between!

Do The Unfirgiven by Metallica
Easily my favorite song growing up. So glad you enjoyed it Alex, it's such an amazing feeling to see someone experience something you love for the very first time.
I have a snake with that shirt on it.
no1bandfan, Well played! 👍👏✌🤣
My all time favorite band and this is one of the greatest songs ever 💕
Ice Nine Kills - Communion of the Cursed! Please bro
My late wife and I had this at our wedding. It’s such an amazing song.
The part right after the solo, the really soft one with James almost whispering the words, always give me goosebumps and tears in my eyes
Since you were amazed by the original, go and watch the S&M version.
That's when they did a show with a symphonic orchestra!
It's amazing!!!
For me, that`s the best version of this song.
@@vuicivalentin82 Then let me bring you some good news S&M2 will be played September 6th 2019 for the 20th anniversary, can only hope for the best, see: www.metallica.com/news/2019-03-18-s-and-m-2.html
Wintersun - Sons of Winter and stars! Do it please!
They touring right now and their sound is best live. Also look at their symphonic stuff, it's damn amazing.
This is not a first time hearing I suppose😁. React to Allegaeon: Proponent for sentience III. That's what I call brutal riffing and nice soloing. Try it for goosebumps sake.
React to “the day that never comes” pleeeaaseee
I get in certain moods every now and then and listening to Metallica is where I’m at now.
I love to see people from different musical background listen and discover music that that wouldn’t have listened to regularly.
I’ve been loving your reactions and I like the fact that you do some research on the band before you listen to them.
Started watching your channel because of Metallica but I would love to see you reacting to Sabaton (I recommend Dominium Maris Baltici + The Lion From the North) ^^
That guitar is called a "12/6 double neck"
It's a 12 string on the top neck and a standard 6 string on the bottom neck ;)
Seeing you appreciate this shit takes me back to when I was young and hearing them for the first time. It is quite amazing. It's hard to find anything new of such high caliber.
You should check out Crushed by Parkway Drive.
Nutbra69 yes yes yes!!.. I wanna see Alex do another PWD song .. another you tuber “youyouyou” just did an album reaction to horizons.. check it out it’s funny af
I'd rather see him react to Siren's Song or Romance is Dead.
Draust for sure or boneyards, carrion, karma .. there’s so many lol
nice vid mate!
i suppose i'm just young enough that i wasn't listening to metallica in a progression of albums growing up..lots of people hate when a band goes "softer" . going mainstream and writing borderline POP songs is a totally different story. anyways like the singer stated about actually putting your heart into your music instead of trying to make what fans want is what makes me respect any band more and if i don't like it then no harm done, but almost every band i like any transitions i love, love diversity and showing all their skills :P
oh also react to EPICA-The Phantom Agony . fucker
p.s. on the double neck guitar you can have different tunings for each . very convenient
im glad someone said this. Thats how i look at it as well. But we can all agree st anger should not be spoken of
i tell you man ,i heard this song million times ,but i not saw the vídeo, because is a song to listen and feel, so many trues in this words...Congrats for the channel...
I’ve been listening to Metallica since the early 80’s
I think you can collect your prize now
You’ve got to react to Dyers Eve from the album “And Justice for All”!! Thrashiest as hell!!!!'!!!!
Played in 3/4. I'm so glad you're learning guitar bc this music is going to mean so much to you when you can explain what you're actually hearing.

Yes. That whole concert was amazing. Ghost Love Score is great and probably gets the most requests. Ever Dream would be a good one too. A bit shorter and Alex would get to hear both Floor and Marco sing.
