  • Pawan Kumar says "Quitting is OK".
He explains this through the steps of his life as to how he quit, got on and moved at the right stage. Like quitting college to do theatre, then quitting his mentor which was a bold move in his life to do theatre on his own, then quitting his home space to learn more. He then moved to Mumbai and worked in various domains. He became a part of backstage crew, editing, corporate films, ad films and did everything for survival. He observed that many people who come to Mumbai, wait for some kind of magic to happen. He later figured out that this is not what he has to become! His next bold step was to quit Mumbai. He came back to Bangalore and did one show and decided to continue with it. He then started writing scripts and making films as an associate director. He released various movies in 2010 like Pancharangi and Manasare in kannada (local language).
He then quit working in associations and then started directing movies on his own!
He didn't gave up on his passion and did what he wanted to do always by quitting things that didn't make sense at that point of time. So to all those people out there, "It's okay to quit!"
Pawan Kumar, a film director, actor and screenwriter in the Kannada film industry.
His directional debut "Lifeu Ishtene", "Lucia" - a psychological thriller, "U-turn" and "Ondu Motteya Kathe" (Yet to be released in India) in recent times has made a tremendous impact on the Kannada film industry.
The man behind the lens is all set to throw his web of thought and entangle your mind.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

This is also discussed in the well known book "The Art of Work", that we can still continue the journey forward when we move away from the beaten path or the obstacles. I've been doing that, and yes, people have had strange thoughts about my off-beat behavior but I'm feeling more and more complete over the years, as a creative person with a mind of my own inside my head.
Thanks Pawan -- wish you a good journey too.

no that's not ADHD dear... I know its not, its just coz the so called standards set by others are just to boring for you. How I know, coz i'm one of them.

vibhor kumar may be we are seeing a broader picture in life rather than just work, slog, pay bills etc.
We quit early because we know we aren't doing justice to what we were supposed to do.
However I respect your thoughts and may be you are right in your place and moreover society appreciates people like you rather than people like us 😁

The problem with this is that he is one guy that did this and it worked. That's great. But all the other guys and gals that quit and ended up working at McDonalds or worse won't be invited to talk at TED. There will never be a talk about "Don't Quit - How I quit a job to chase a dream and ended up sleeping on a bench at the park". Don't get me wrong, I agree with what he did, but people need to look ahead "After quitting, what will I do? What is worst case scenario? What is break even scenario?". Best luck to everyone!

ಸೋ Lucia is the first Kannada film which I watched after 5yrs and got impressed. My hostel mate bought film to the hostel and it was first Kannada film watched in hostel common tv. The friend who bought was hardcore Hollywood and Bollywood fan and also not even used to give damn abt Kannada films like me at that time. KUDOS.

  • @rasiklal8016

Paraphrasing Pawan, quitting is not the core issue he is presenting. Primarily he seems to be saying … reduce the choices and the different goals [some given by society and family - some partially evolved in the search for the “passion”], prioritizing them reducing/eliminating the dvesha [divided desires pulling apart the drive to achieve].
The second key is not to quit and stop - but to keep going - being productive.
He also does a useful job of detoxifying quitting, which traditionally is based on the incorrect belief - Doing more of Whatever is Going to Result in Success.
    This was useful.
