      or going? Another 68 years?
Talk, talk, talk and more talk!
With or without your Colonial past, much of the Indian/Pakistani/South Asian social system, is fundamentally corrupt. There is nothing to build on.
If India ever makes the World proud, it will be out of sheer Luck.

acridotherestristis I don't think so. In any case, we have elected PM Modi after a corrupt Congress ruling for years. I can safely say, he has done more work in a year than Congress has for 10. There also, there is more to India then just politics. Open the newspaper, you will find foundations of good Samaritans, charity events. I agree we have a lot to improve on, but we people are at least taking steps.
It's wrong out a whole country just because of Your view. Thanks.

I'm from the US and went to college in the US for Computer Science. During my time there, a new professor was hired. He had 2 PhDs from a university in India. I won't name it because this was in the late 1990s and it may have improved since then. Anyhow, he taught an introductory course. Within the first week, he taught us a topic and assigned homework. When we went to do the homework we discovered that what he taught us was simply wrong. It didn't work. The next class, we let him know. His response, to this day, stuns me. He said that if we had done the assignment the way he taught it, but it didn't work, we would still get an A. If, on the other hand, we had used our textbook to learn how to do it properly and our program worked - we would get an F. He would fail us for not listening to him and instead actually learning how to do it properly. No, I am not joking. Perhaps this makes sense culturally to someone from India. I have no idea. My fellow students and I went to the department chair and got him fired. I believe the college had to buy him out of his contract which is outrageous, he was not just completely incompetent in the subject he had "2 PhDs" in, but he had some bizarre notion that his status as an authority figure actually mattered more than his actual capacity to teach. If that sort of thinking exists in India, it HAS to be completely destroyed before progress can be made.

+Jose Kariamadam So your criteria for being elected as a Nation's Prime Minister is his/her ability to have :-
      1. Command over english. ( Must be your assumption that if anyday P.M wants to get selected in an intel. call center, Right!!. You can't be that big a fool. Certainly majority of India does not speak that language or if they do, certainly not as frequent as some other western countries do.)
      2. Personality. ( yeah agreed. But majority of P.M already fill that criteria)
      3. Knowledge. ( Of what exactly?? About graphs and percentage read from a research work of some other guy or astute information about all things which makes us Indian, our own history and teachings. I am guessing the second one.)

I admire you for so many reason and I agree with you. Not just reading and writing, but actual education for older adults should be encouraged. I was a high school graduate and stopped after that. In United States I decided to try college. Indian thinking was still with me that I was 27 years old, and it's too late. I met a 70 year old white woman in my class and asked her what does she hope to get out of college. She changed my life and thinking with her answer. She said that she always wanted to get higher education, but raising children and grandchildren, she never got a chance. Now she has time, so she is fulfilling her dream. For the first time I realized that education is not for career, but to grow. I was 43 when I got my masters. It's never too late to learn.
