  • Research tells us that the way to get people to change is not to start with trying to change their attitudes alone, but to start with the behaviors associated with the attitudes. When people see themselves behaving differently, they can then think of themselves differently and the attitude change will follow. The six behaviors discussed that you could start today are derived from over 90 interviews with female executives in sports.
Emily Jaenson’s motto is “Be so good they won’t forget you!” and this motto has carried her through her career to land her former role as General Manager of the Triple-A Reno Aces. Upon accepting this role in 2018, Jaenson became the first female in Triple-A to hold the GM role in nearly 20 years. Jaenson leads a podcast, Leadership is Female, where she interviews executives in sport so that she and her guests can guide the next generation of female leadership forward and leads a team of sports front office veterans in their consulting business. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

    1. Count yourself in with “3,2,1 go” and ask yourself the question “Who Am I?” You are a person who is not too shy to back away from a challenge. Counting gets you started.
    2. Give yourself 20 seconds of courage. That’s all it takes.
    3. Take a seat at the table - literally. Don’t wait around, actually get started with this one simple action.
    4. Cheer for other peoples success. Confident people celebrate the success of others rather than feeling threatened. Quote: “Good for her, not for me” by Amy Poller. Confident people support those around them.
    5. Boost your confidence with an activity you are already great at. What is something that is easier today than one year ago? What is your most proud accomplishment? Think about these questions because confidence is born in what we have already achieved. “Use your prior success to propel yourself forward.”
    6. Celebrate constantly. Celebrate all goals, past and present. Know and honour your proudest accomplishments. Do something nice for yourself when you reach your goals. It doesn’t matter HOW you celebrate it matters that you DO celebrate.
What could you do if you were 10x more confident?

Stop judging other people is a great one. The way you think becomes a built in pattern. So if you're overly judgemental of others, you'll be overly judgemental of yourself too. For example people who really judge others for their looks are often the most insecure about how they look.

@@FatmaGasim1 Hey, I came across your comment and maybe some of my suggestions coulb be useful to you.
First, vocabulary is key. You couldn't understand what she is saying nor what I wrote in English if you don't know the meaning of the words or the context right? So expand your vocabulary, classify them into different topics and use them often.
One more thing, watch videos with bilingual subtitles. The video above only has English subtitle, find one has both Eng sub and translation. When watching, you can follow the content of the video and understand its meaning at once. By doing that, you will get used to listening in English and at the same time understanding what they are saying.

    Great Video!
Confidence is developed by learning to step out of your comfort zone on a daily basis.. As stated in the video acting confident will eventually create confidence from the inside out. One successful experience builds on the previous one. Trust the PROCESS, it will develop as one intentionally faces their fears head on. One of most important confidence building in my life was joining Toast Masters and overcoming the fear of public speaking. Learning to overcome the fear of what others think about us is a game changer. Building confidence is not a quick fix, although can definitely be developed for those willing to do the hard work.

I would like to comment on this video’s six behaviors to increase confidence coming from a medical student. Counting yourself in; this is a very good starting point, one of the first things you learn quickly in medical school is the amount of work and dedication one has to commit every week just to survive. Lessons on ethics talks about imposter syndrome and the phases many medical students face when arriving to medical school. It is very different than undergraduate school as you are now competing with your peers for residency spots and you look around and realize that everybody next to you is very intelligent. This causes the thoughts of “Maybe they made a mistake… I do not belong here… I am not smart enough…” For those students who got straight A’s, now getting a passing score feels just as great. Another phase of imposter syndrome is the “we are all in this together” feeling, when you have survived the first semester and think to yourself, “wow I am not the only one who feels this way.” You start to make new friends and we support each other, share notes, share strategies because we are all in this together. By counting yourself in, it is essentially acknowledging that you have put in tremendous work to get into medical school, believe that you belong and start learning!
20 seconds of courage: I have not tried this, but I would love to incorporate it in my life to see if it works for me. In medical school, you quickly get thrown in to practice talking to real patients, even if they are actors (they are grading you) during the first two years. You have to learn to give presentations to your peers, and a lot of extracurricular activities such as volunteering for that amount of “free time” that you do have.
Take a seat at the table: This can be very helpful because there are many positions students take during medical school. For example, there are student government positions, peer mentor/tutoring that one does to learn leadership skills. Attending conferences in those specialties we are interested in, networking and meeting new people with hopes of building relationships for your future.
Cheer for other peoples success: You learn to cheer for your peers successes very quickly. Medical school takes a mental toll on people. Talking to your peers and seeing that they passed the course they struggled with on the first exam and seeing how happy they are after passing is a great feeling. Getting that support feels just as great.
Bolster your already confidence: Practice makes perfect. With time, talking to patients comes easier and easier. Learning your strengths at test taking and improving in anyway you can.
Celebrate constantly: Every medical student knows this. Every day can be celebrated as long as you get through your lectures! Passing an exam, having time to work out, talk with family, and staying on top of things are things I celebrate every day. When I don’t complete lectures, that’s okay too, some lectures take longer to learn than others, we adapt and we give it our best shot.
Great video, I wanted to add a little perspective from a medical student’s point of view.

I think it's a good message to start behaving more confidence than earlier because it's my the weakest side. I feel my life and career are ruining because of my insecurity. I don't know how but recently I got a really good position in cool company and now have an opportunity to prod myself into career path but it's so scary even think of what will happen forward not to mention about conversation with others. I agree with the staytment that the confidence is key but I still have to get this confidance somehow

i like this speak, especially on last method on celebrating constantly. It doesn't matter what or how you celebrate, but we still need to do it to create a marker in our brain to tell it's a behavior of success. I never try to celebrate it, I never realize this point, only see people celebrate when gain some success. From today I will do and indeed to try to create confidence using the steps you mentioned. Thanks

she shared that how to be we make ourself confident. fist of all u have to find yourself it is very important how to u behave? and what u want to achieve and to achieve you need more confidence.
    so, she shared 6 things
    1. find your self say it's my life I can do this
    2. give yourself 20 sec.
    3. take sit on table
    4. cheer for other people success
    5. transfer your confidence in new activity

That pause before people clapped, when she said she was the became the first female GM of a AAA baseball team in 20years was very telling . She should and many others be a GM of a MLB team.

Well yes, but something about her tone made it seem like she was expecting applause. She sounded kind of arrogant in announcing it, and it would have been overly proud even if it was a man saying it.
