    Nice photo of the team out in the cold at the end of the video. No short sleeves there.
    I once had a job as a Vehicle Validation Engineer for cold weather testing. Most of the work done in this video sounds like it went into the powertrain calibration side of things. We used to have the powertrain guys come up with different platforms, but it was not a full vehicle validation. The vehicles I had to look after all had to do more mundane tests in addition to powertrain. The power train was to be sorted by this time. Doesn't help if they send me a car with a prototype touch screen as being the only way to adjust the HVAC and it fails. Can't send drivers out in -40C with no heater. Same goes for snow tires. If you sent a car with no snow tire, no testing.
    The official temperatures for cold weather testing of road vehicles are down to -40C. A series of tests all must be done at 0C to -20C, -20C to -30C and -30C to -40C. Hitting -40C for enough time to test all of the cars on all of the tests is hard to pull off anywhere in the world these days so the same tests at -30.1C count as a pass for -40C. Any issues all must be corrected prior to the official vehicle launch.
    I doubt that the customers of this car will even notice squeaky panels or squeaky suspension at -25C in a snowstorm (especially with that awesome V12 sound). They should be happy the car is even capable of going through it. Does not fit the "winter beater" category.
    BTW, the defrost looks a little weak unless some of the shots were taken shortly after starting up. Long windshields are a bitch to do this efficiently.

      I believe the speed (and as such, suction power) of the fan is largely dictated by straight line speed, so it's not doing much in this scenario. This isn't the same as the McMurtry Speirling which has the fan going full speed all the time. Correct me if I'm wrong by all means, but I think this is how it works.

    • @srinitaaigaura
      @srinitaaigaura Год назад

      It won't. The fan actually withdraws air perpendicular to the diffuser. So everything sucked up is coming out the diffuser but nothing other than air goes through the fan.

      The Russians are used to it, trains, and transport run as normal, and on time too.
      A few years ago, the Vladivostok region (on Russia's Pacific coast) got 4-5ft of snow (not snowdrifts - actual snowfall) but the next morning every single school and kindergarten was working and was opened on time.... I think it was in 2016 - incredible really.

  • @ichiban8558
    @ichiban8558 Год назад +2

    It's great that GMA are undergoing such comprehensive testing for T.50 but it's inevitable that 95% of all these cars will end up as part of an investment fund seeking to emulate the financial yields of the McLaren F1; that's suitably ironic for such a brilliantly designed and pure drivers car; it's ultimately a white elephant for the road. It also clearly illustrates the insanity of the modern world and how far we are away from the vision of Roger Chapman and indeed Gordon's own collection of brilliant lightweight drivers cars and motorbikes. We all know that Gordon gets it.
    When you observe just how well the Alpne A110 was received and now the goodwill around the Lotus Emira (and with two halo cars now in place), surely GMA should be seriously assessing the viability of manufacturing an affordable lightweight performance roadcar for the rest of us that isn't a Rocket? Getting that right would represent a true technical achievement and a fitting tribute to the absolute genius and formula of Roger Chapman - his vision bought thrills to millions, not just the tiresome and increasingly dull super-rich customers that Pagani, Koenigsegg, Ferrari and McLaren are currently chasing round the block?

    • @james2450
      @james2450 Год назад +1

      @ichiban GMD did produce a design for a sub £40k light weight roadster based on their patented iSteam chassis construction technology. I think the idea was that this would be licensed out to external manufacturers who would then produce the vehicle at scale. I remember hearing Murray mention this a few years back on a podcast with Chris Harris. But I’m guessing it wasn’t picked up by a manufacturer yet . Sadly. You see an engineer with the genius of Murray and it seems a crying shame his designs are only accessible to the hyper rich. The T50s are practically hand built and presumably they would not want to get into mass scale manufacture. I don’t really subscribe to the view that just because you have limited the production run of a vehicle to 100 that that automatically makes it more special. Look at the Mini Cooper, I know Murray thought very highly of issigonis, or the little Lotus Elan - these were brilliantly engineered light weight vehicles within reach of the average person. But I guess the buyers of T50 also want assurance that their investment will grow in value and limiting the numbers is one way of insuring that and making possible the kind of after sales relationship they way with customers. Unlike the F40. www.repairerdrivennews.com/2019/03/06/road-track-gordon-murray-lightweight-sports-car-base-price-below-53k/

    I'd probably have big skids too driving in those conditions with that much power and the cost of the vehicle.

    I see you got a number plate. We don't pay a crazy road tax here in the USA, so I just assumed Swedish petrolheads would engage in some illegal rallying away from paved roads. At least you weren't hounded by Greta and her goons in a pack of Teslas. Maybe she prefers warmer climates after all. Fantastic car

    I , each day look forward to new videos released by GMA !! I actually get bummed when these videos aren't released more often !! Granted, that's just the spoiled brat that's addicted to anything released by the most incredible team and car designer to walk this planet....

    Controversial opinion. I'm not a fan of the exhaust note, it sounds tiny and hollow to me.
