    Love your channel Carla, as someone who is not American I really enjoy your calmness and soothing voice, sometimes it's hard to watch some American youtubers because they go so overboard, almost feel fake, with you I feel a sense of sincerity.
    Being a minimalist for 7 years was the best that happened in my life, I don't follow the astetic part (I like colour and European cottage romantic) but the change in the lifestyle is amazing, more money, more time, less cleaning, less stress don't follow trends, don't care what people think of me, now I follow my own path.
    Kisses from Portugal, by the way Carla it's a very common name in Portugal. 💋

      Thank you so much!! I am right there with you..Aspiring to a minimalist and simplified lifestyle but the aesthetic is really not for me. I love color and pattern and textures way too much!! Love the way you described the lifestyle though it is all about freedom for me. I hope to visit Lisbon next year! XO

    Carla, it looks soooo pretty and efficient. Okay those cabinets are so high up - that would be too difficult for me to function - I’m 5’2”.
    When I was young, my grandma had a pantry room where she stored all of her dried goods. She used to do the baking prep (mmm breads and pies) in there too on this huge pantry table that had pull out drawers to hold bulk flour, sugar, and her spices. I always wanted a pantry room like hers. My father has the table now and the room was later transforms into a laundry room when my grandmother received her first electric washer and dryer. Sadly, my house is too small for a pantry room but I hope someday to build a cupboard for pantry items in my mud room/laundry room. -Time will tell.

    • @TheCarlaProject
      @TheCarlaProject  2 года назад +3

      my cabinets are ridiculously high!!! oh my your grandmas pantry is what dreams are made of...pantry table for baking prep wow. also i am fascinated by mud rooms. guess it is kinda like an entryway? but sectioned off from main house... xo

    • @myxochi
      @myxochi 2 года назад +5

      @@TheCarlaProject A mud room here is a room we step into once we come into the front door of the house. I live in Canada. Winters are so cool that we get inside quickly, then we take off our big coat and boots in a wee room off of the foyer. I have my washer and dryer in there, but I’m hoping to make a floor to ceiling cabinet where my small appliances and “stock” of canned goods, and paper goods can live. That way, I can use my kitchen more efficiently with my “must use” items. When I saw what you did with the shelf in your kitchen, it had me thinking that maybe I could set up something similar for in there and free up much needed kitchen cupboard space for my “at hand” items, plates, and glassware. You are a wonderful inspiration Carla…

    Well done on the pantry! Walk-in panties are not really a thing in Europe nowadays, however my mom lives in a building from 1920 and she has one, and I have to say these are not that great if one has tendencies to hoard items, it can very cluttered very quickly because you simply lose sight of what is in there. I think having cupboards is better. I feel you with cleaning the walls, actually ordered some magic eraser sponges (melamine foam) today to do something about mine because sure as hell I'm not going to repaint in winter. Maybe you could try one of those peel&stick vinyl wallpapers behind your shelving unit? I've heard these are easy to wash and renter-friendly. Finally, random thought: that lazy Susan is beautiful, such a gorgeous colour of natural wood. Well done on the project!

    I love your glass jars with wooden tops. They turned out so cute with the lettering as well! I have a square basket with lid very similar to yours. I bought it for supplements. I love all your wood cutting boards. And I especially love your shopping tote/purse.. You definitely freed up some cabinet space. I have a lot of spices too.. I use a hanging rack like you have in your closet for all of mine. It works great and frees up a lot of cabinet space. I don't remember any of my friends having a walk in pantry when I was little. I guess maybe a linen like closet that kept some canned goods etc. Ours was a combo of games/and canned goods and chips. At one friends house they had a bar area and a refrigerator with all pops and drinks that I thought was cool. We have a neighbor that has a butlers pantry with an extra dishwasher, refrigerator and tons of storage. It's pretty dreamy.

    Those wall cabinets are extremely high, why are they not at the regular height? An open shelf underneath them would be beneficial to give you more storage space.
    I grew up in an English country house. We had both a pantry and a larder. The pantry was for only non food items - pots, pans, crockery, best china, table linens, etc. A larder is typically located on a north facing, exterior wall so that it is always cold. It would have open shelving up all the walls. The worktops would be marble or granite so that they too would be cold. We rarely used the fridge in those days because the larder maintained such a cool and steady temperature. I used to love going in there after school to see what my mother had made.

    The house I grew up in until age 12 had this huge closet for a pantry. It was like 6 feet wide with a bunch of drawers and some shelves. To give perspective on the size, my best friend and I would climb the drawers to the top that served as the first shelf. We would sit on that shelf and eat snacks and talk. It is really weird looking back because the house felt small(ish). I think because the rooms were very boxy and closed off. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    This turned out really nice. I'm jealous of your oven with the cover. That's genius.
    One small complaint: when you hold the camera and move quickly - 3:39 is an example - it can give some of us a little motion sickness. While I like the organic nature of your filming, that movement just doesn't work for me.

    In Chicago, we had a walk in pantry...many shelves and a little window....

      We did too! It was a small, typical Chicago bungalow. The little window looked out to the back porch. Below the shelves were built-in drawers.

    Beautiful. From one west coaster to another, you might reconsider the Dutch oven location. Earthquakes. I'd hate for that heavy pot to go flying off the top shelf.

    • @SimoneS1000

      Maybe the Dutch oven could be stored on top of the stove cover when not cooking?

    Try using a Scrub Daddy Eraser or a Magic Eraser for the scuff marks and grime. They work! Also, I have seen a few vacuum makers sponsor RUclipsrs. I bet Hoover would sponsor you.

    I love the cute bottles but it’s hard because you don’t have instruction or expiration dates and then food shopping and refilling everything becomes a chore and then the pantry gets a mess… This is what I’ve seen as a professional organizer

    • @TheCarlaProject
      @TheCarlaProject  2 года назад

      was thinking dry erase sharpie on bottom of jar with the expiration dates...thoughts?

      I don’t mind them but they smudge a bit and again the upkeep of filling everything is a project
      You’re doing so good !!

    Get so excited when I see you have a new video! You didn’t disappoint again, went hiking once teehee. Looks fab I do worry your shelves are not fixed to the wall but in saying that I’d be the same. I have an older microwave (I noticed yours as it’s top of my mind) I’ve placed it on the bench for easy access tho I think I may look to invest in a cute new one mine is like 15 years old! I think it will be an investment, in New Zealand we don’t have much selection does the states have lots of microwave styles? I’m left handed (my husband too) and you can’t get a right opening one! Anyway thanks for the videos you make me laugh and inspire me too. Wish you lived down the road so I could get you to do some labelling for me and we could take our dogs for walks on the beach. There was no Samson in this clip I just realised only his hair, gotta love them but the hair does my head in.

      I saw Samson @4:00. Such a cute boy! You are both lefthanded...very cool. I think lefties look so awesome when they write...I taught myself along time ago to write with my left hand because I really like the feel of it. I once worked with around 20 people and half were lefties! Amazing! Sorry you can't find a microwave that opens how you need it to. One of my colleagues once explained all the issues products only made for right-handed cause. Phew! 2021 and it's still a problem SMH.

      my microwave is ancient!! it still works so i will keep it til it dies. we do have so many options here for microwaves but yea never thought about how different it is if you are left handed! and yes samson is only peeking out in one moment haha but one day i will make it to New Zealand for sure💕💕💕

    Edit to add: I 100% agree with you on the reusable baggies! They’re an amazing concept, but like you experienced, I cannot for the life of me get them completely clean. I’ve tried several different brands and they just aren’t for me. I ended up donating all of them.

    Great job with the make shift pantry. It’s always better to live in a space and see how you use it before you start buying storage pieces. 😊❤

    Kitchen area is essential to have organized but it's hard too because if you cook on a daily basis you actually need quite a bit of utensils etc. Looks good 👍

    You need to attach this white/glass shelf unit to the wall. It is not safe like that and it can cause some serious accident in the future as it was not made to be a pantry. Everything looks beautiful but please remember that safety first!
