I can tell you why. Because your inspiration photo is a warm pink and mauve has purple undertone in it so that is a cool pink that's why it's coming off as Pepto-Bismol. I still think it looks good though, just pull some cooler pink elements over into the other side of the room to tie it in maybe bring some molds in to a rug with some creams and it will look amazing
I'm actually a fan of the wall...And you know what? At least you tried something new and out of your comfort zone with DIYs! That's so fun, even if sometimes it's a fail lol! Now it's a thing you have experience in!
I love the pink (mauve) wall! I would not repaint white but if you must maybe consider a white that has a mauve hue to it - there are 100's of shades of white.
If you want to repaint the wall, take a piece of leftover flooring and have the paint person do a color match to the off-white from the floor print. That way the colors in the room won't fight with one another....if that's sort of the vibe you're struggling with and want to make the change.
OK - now that I’ve actually watched the video I can comment on the wall color. I really like it with the floor tiles. I think the solid color wall might be throwing you off a little bit. You might feel differently about it after you put your white pantry back in. I vote for keeping the mauve wall - it’s pretty! And painting the base trim was a great idea. Can’t wait for part two! (See, I told you you could do it). 😊
I like one comment that said to take your extra floor tile to Home Depot and find a lighter version of the terra cotta color for the wall. Do not use glossy paint. Use eggshell or more matte. Use lighter color, not darker. Your mauve isn’t quite right and you know it. It’s too pink. Trust yourself on this. Don’t go back to white. That would be going backwards. Use a color that pairs better with your gorgeous new floor. Also, I think your curtain is upside down. The 3-inch hem goes on the bottom to help weight it. The 1-inch hem goes on the top. Project looks great. Love your floor.
I like the mauve wall, I wish it was actually a touch darker but it's fine. That color is really popular retro color that goes well with the vintage style oven! I also like that it provides contrast with the white baseboards. Plus the shelf is going to block a lot any way... I'd skip the labor of repainting it.
I have lived in my house for 10 years and just painted my brown cabinets a lovely sea glass blue/green color. I felt your pain with the Home Depot trip, it is so overwhelming!!!! I just kept telling myself, "I can do this, I can do this." Painting is scary. It was nice to watch you work too! I love the floors!!!
The pink wall is beautiful... what you actually wanted is to be "flat finish" the one you have is very shiny. I love the tiles. I would stay with it as it is and I would decide after a week if I don't like the color or not.
I agree about the shine! But she doesn't want flat finish in a kitchen. It'll be a nightmare to clean off the grease and grime. Eggshell is a compromise.
I painted my linoleum bathroom floor and it got dirty quickly. I then repainted it with porch paint and I love it! It's been 6 years and it still looks great.
I'm really jealous, we actually always have walls here that are simply plastered and then a rough, not smooth wall; it's a pain to paint! The color in the kitchen is great... anything is better than white walls. The floor is phenomenal! I have small black floor tiles in the kitchen which are a nightmare. Grease and water, dog hair, cat hair leave marks everywhere. Now there's a washable carpet. I love your apartment, just very charming, cozy and feminine.
Love the floor and curtains. The wall colour is also nice, but the tone is a bit off when compared to the floor. I'd probably re-paint the wall to match the (off?) white elements in the floor tiles, but I am very basic 😄 I would test what the wall/floor combo looks like with your shelving unit back in the room before repainting - it might look okay.
I agree with this. The floor is the spotlight/true accent, so the walls can stay white or a white with a mauve hue (or a hue that best compliments). Also, I love warm (vs cool toned) rooms, but since it's the kitchen a lighter wall may help bounce light better. After having gray cabinets for 2 years i appreciate my "boring" white ones that bounce, instead of absorb, light.
I haven’t even watched it yet, Carla, but wanted to give you some words of encouragement. You can do it! I haven’t seen anything that has conquered you yet - go for it girl - I’m rooting for you! ❤️🌷❤️
One thing that would make a big difference is it looks like your grout may be white and just stained on the counters - if you use toilet gel w bleach and a grout brush you can get them white again and it makes it visually so much cleaner because it reduces contrast between black and white. Also - would consider if you can Craigslist a nice closed storage option. The shelves bring a lot of visual clutter and something like the KEA Kolbjorn could make it all look less busy and more tidy.
It is hard to judge from a video as colors always look different in real life and various light throughout the day. I say... if the wall does not make your heart sing, then repaint it. But, that said... I think that tile was a great choice and it works really well with the wood of the cabinetry! And too, I love your old stove! 🥰
Designer here, paint the wall a closer mauve to the tiles or paint it back to white but maybe think about black contact paper on your down cabinets. As for the window treatments, I suggest roman shades! Preserve your way 🤞🏼
I think you should do a bolder color altogether! Something that really POPS. My sister dared me months ago to paint my living room black (as a fellow aries you should know how that went 😂). With the amount of light I get in my living room, it’s not as dark as you might think it would be. Moral of the story, go hard or go home!
Omg the floor looks like it has always been there, its absolutely perfect!!! If you really dont like the wall after a few days i would say :go with your gut, invest half a day or a day of pain-by-painting instead of months/years KV trying go like it.Future carla will thank you!
If you want the wall to be darker just buy a sample of the darker mauve colour and mix it with the lighter colour until you reach your desired shade. I do all my own decorating and I always mix my own colours! That being said I think a light terracotta shade would work perfectly as well...but that's just me! Good job anyway!
Of course keep the mauve wall! it will grow on you. Add in some kind of a plant with huge leaves, the green will contrast well with the warm colors. The curtains are amazing, so put them on both windows. Giiiirrrl I rarely comment on any videos but yours are amazing and so real! Can't wait for next week's kitchen reno video! xo
Looove the pink wall with that tile. Was so scared you were going to go with the black/white checkers pattern. The the current cabinets and all the lines from the counter tiles.... it would have been a disaster. But the tile you ended up with looks good with the wall color and still ties nicely with the tones of the cabinets and tile on the counter. It's lovely, warm, and inviting.
6:00 that colour you are having in your kitchen is popular this days in the city I am, like an exquisite pale brownish purple. It is also the color of my favorite ice cream "fruits from the forest", at least in my tablet looks like that. The example you cited in the photo does look more pink. The venetian sticker tiles suits just right. Maybe you can use tender lights to make the color get a bit dark.
Live with the mauve for a bit with the shelves and goodies back in their former spots. I think you’ll find that with everything put back, the whole look will come together nicely!
Until I saw the video today I always thought those were your original kitchen tiles (not always watching in the right order) - so absolutely well done 💪🏼👍🏻❤️
Your kitchen is coming together nicely. Love the floor! I think the mauve wall looks more interesting than the white. The white seems safe and rather predictable.
The floors look awesome! I just did my bathroom floors with peel and stick vinyl planks and painted--the entire thing was a learning process but I couldn't be happier. I love your mauve wall and how it contrasts the floor. You just put in all that work...my advice is live with it for awhile and see how you feel later. You can always put it back to white at any point. Great job!
Carla! I love love love the chic Paris curtain look! They add a pop of pizazz to the tiles & soft Huey mauve wall:) The whole new look 👀 seems warm & inviting & you! Love it, I’m going on Etsy today for tile for my itty bitty laundry room. Thanks for the inspiration as always, I’m super proud of you💙 Tonya🧘🏽♂️
Your peel and stick choice seemed very fitting with the oak and stove. If you have any of that darker color you could mix it with your mauve pink for a medium shade to darken the wall like you wanted. Curtains were cute as well, Cafe style matches its danty size n style, loved the little Curtains hooks though!
Nice attempt, love the floor tiles! You might need to find a different inspo photo that includes wooden cabinets and white tiling so that you have a better idea. You can do a fresh layer of grout for the tile to brighten it up.
Paint baseboards and under sink cabinet pink. The pink looks fabulous with the floor. The white is too jarring between the floor and wall. And the linen cafe curtains soften the room nicely.
Hi Carla! Kitchen is turning out super nice! Just my 2 cents on the color-- your inspo is in matte, while in your kitchen it looks like it's glossy. I feel like that makes such a huge difference. Hope that helps! ☺️
@@TheCarlaProject Glossy also shows imperfections in the wall. I like the color on the wall over the white. You could bring a sample of the flooring to the store and they could do a color match. Then you know what pigments are in the paint and do a lighter version of what is on the floor. I use a mini roller on small jobs. You would think it would be more work but it is less. Less heavy, easier to clean and it gets in small corners. Try cutting in first then rolling. Really like the peal and stick.
Was in love with that floor and was sad because it looked like tiles which I'm way to cheap to do, plus tile is cold which I hate. Now I might steal that pattern for something in my house, or at least the concept and hope that I can do it, so glad I found this video!
I have painted both my rental properties and those that we've owned. I've even redone the flooring in our Laundry Room of our home (which we still own) by using the peel and stick tiles. We prepped the concrete floor with the agent that the Home Depot representative told us to buy, then after installation, we applied a sealer. After 16 years in our Laundry Room, our DIY floor still looks good. I happen to love your selected wall color. Sometimes when I wanted to achieve a specific shade, I needed two or three coats. I think the floor tiles match your wall perfectly! It's the cabinets that might not work the best because they're tones are too similar.
I’ve seen with some peel and stick tile you can grout them also to give a nicer look and longer last, also if you can move the oven back further or move the fridge and oven out and back in to finish off the tiles underneath and give a good clean Also always ask! I’ve found some of the workers at lowes and Home Depot are really knowledgeable about what’s good and isn’t for certain projects and what you’re going for and what’s best I love the tile with the pink/maybe better, also think painting the bottoms like the Inspo picture along with the baseboard to match would look so good!!
I really love the tile floor looks amazing and the mauve wall goes so well with the floor. Much better than white wall. The whole kitchen looks very warm and inviting. Great job.
The floors came out great. Team Mauve all the way.😀. Also just in case this helps.....you can use a paint guide (small handheld device that makes it really easy to cut in) for around the trim/baseboards. I started using one years ago and it saves me so much time when cutting in ceilings. Great video!
I like the window curtain look. But yeh, definitely change the wall back to white to blend with the new tiles. The new tiles are beautiful and definitely give me French-ish vibes.
I like the suggestions of painting the wall back to white with a cool undertone (mauve). Also, if you have any tile left, it might look nice to have it as the baseboard. At one point when you had the excess under the cabinets, I thought it looked cool. Overall very nice!
Keep the wall color definitely! In point try and find some shells to hang on the wall around your pantry and place lots of greenery green plants that will really make it come alive!
For the counter top, what if you got a wood slab to essentially cover the tile, like basically having a butcher block counter top to cover most of the tile in the largest open portion. That way you could always take it with you if you move and could always repurpose it into a table top if you wanted. I did something similar to a small patch of counter that was discolored and had knife marks in it, I found a nice large wood cutting board that took up almost the whole space and it looked so good. I didn’t actually cut on it cause it was too big for me to easily wash but it looked so much better
I thought of this cuz I’d love to have butcher block but the countertop is long and deep and I just know it wouldn’t work over a space like that unless I got help and someone cut and installed it to be steady on top of tiles. Love the idea and look of that tho!
❤️ I may be a little late…but loved the overall look…the floor completely transformed the room!, good move on painting the baseboards. I actually loved the wall. Look forward to seeing your shelving back in place I think the wall will be a beautiful back drop! As for the curtains…I didn’t dislike them I’m just not sure the white rail ( plastic) for that real chic look maybe a gold/ brass cafe rod! ( Amazon💕💕) 🙋🏻♀️🇬🇧💕jane
Love everything. Well done Carla 💪 you should be proud of yourself entering brave new territory of DIY 🥳 The only thing I would change: I would hang a long wooden board as shelf, below the last cubboard, in the exact height as the lowest edge of your large cupboards all along over the stove until the fridge. I would put a lot of herb plants on it: mint, basilikum, even a small tomato plant ... benefit 1: healthy cooking, 2: always nice smell, 3: lovely liftup energy 🤗😘💞
Keep the muave for sure. If you are worried about not liking it, I have a weird trick for you to try. Take that same color and use it as in accent in other parts of the room. Like maybe a small piece of art with tiny muave flowers or clouds, a muave pattern on a dish towel, muave utensil holder or the utensils themselves! Once there are touches of it around the room, it somehow makes the color work! (At least in my experience haha)
Massive well done for starting and finishing. Love the floor , wall and curtains. When it comes to decorating nothing is as cheap, easy or straightforward as our mind believes. You were patient and calm...at least to camera lol. Well done Carla
I really feel the floor and the mauve wall compliment each other. When you change things up a little, sometimes it takes a little time to adjust. I would say, if you don't hate the new wall color, maybe live with it for a little while (I understand you might prefer to finish the kitchen and not wait and see. And maybe have to do it again then, eurghh). It looks very peaceful and cute, with very cool flooring. I love that you show your entire process and every step! It feels so good to see trial and error, we're not all perfect at first (but you did an amazing job, it looks great already!). Can't wait to see part 2, great video Carla!
I think the white wall is good with the tile because it picks up the color in the tile. But I admire your energy to doing this in the curtains do look nice! Good for you for improving your place
Absolutely love the flooring and the curtains! Not sure about the mauve wall though ... What about painting it sage green (light greyish green)? To modernize and soften the general look of the backsplash / countertop, you could paint the grout the same colour as the tiles.
Now that I have watched the whole video I can respond! Mauve wall to me is a no! Does not go with floor. Love the floor & curtains. I mentioned in another post about painting tile? Cabinets? If not on the cabinets giving them a good scrub and they make stuff u can put on them to make them look new😊
Ohhhhhhhhh my goodness just finished it it is gorgeous freaking beautiful I love the design the color of the floor everything goes so well oh my gosh 😍🤯❤️
I love the curtains, the mauve wall and especially the stick on tile! You have great taste. Made such a difference in your beautiful kitchen. I live in a 1920’s home and you’ve inspired me to freshen up my place, too. Great job!
I love those tiles. Not sure of the mauve wall. I think if it was darker it would make room look smaller. I would paint them a cream color or whatever the color is in the tile. Can you paint the cabinets? I know you can paint over tile if allowed. The mauve wall actually looks better since you painted the trim white. I like it don't change it.
I love that shade of mauve! It will dry darker but I see more lavender than pink. Love with it for a bit and it might grow on you. And with the warm floor tiles, the wall colour looks darker. Love it!!
honestly looks really nice with the mauve color. The floor pattern is perfect and it really pops! I'm sure that it is the first thing that catches your eye even when you just pass the kitchen. I would buy a green vase (like the green on the painter's tape, I'm not kidding) because THAT is a perfect contrast. Green works so well against a pink background when used on something small like a vase or some other kind of decoration! Great job!
I actually love the white tiles, especially when there's no clutter around. It gives such a vibe. Plus those vintage tiles are super trendy now! For the walls, maybe painting them in a off-white colour (to recall the white of the tiles on the floor) but I wouldn't go to another colour, I feel like it would be too much information (white backlash tiles, red on the floor, another colour on the walls...)
Keep the mauve wall! Once you put the shelves back will look amazing and will provide some contrast
thanks claudia!!
Yes completely agree!!!! Loved it by the end
Agree!
The cafe curtains are adorable, and the mauve wall will be fine once you get the shelf back in the kitchen. The floor: LOVE IT.
I love the pink (mauve) wall! I would not repaint white but if you must maybe consider a white that has a mauve hue to it - there are 100's of shades of white.
ohhh that might be a good medium yes!!
The floors look so nice. I love them with the mauve walls! Can’t wait to see part 2
Thank you! 🤗❤️
If you want to repaint the wall, take a piece of leftover flooring and have the paint person do a color match to the off-white from the floor print. That way the colors in the room won't fight with one another....if that's sort of the vibe you're struggling with and want to make the change.
Yep, would have been my suggestion too
I LOVE painting. this home is the second home I have lived in where I have painted just about every room.
You showed that stove and I had a serious flashback. I learned to cook on a stove just like that. Wow. Makes me really miss my mom and my grandma.
Perfect advice!!! Love it

I just kept telling myself, "I can do this, I can do this." Painting is scary. It was nice to watch you work too! I love the floors!!!
it is very overwhelming in there!! yep i was doing the same affirmation lol

This is what I was going to suggest as well!
agree completely!! the tones do not match each other...
I agree with this. The floor is the spotlight/true accent, so the walls can stay white or a white with a mauve hue (or a hue that best compliments). Also, I love warm (vs cool toned) rooms, but since it's the kitchen a lighter wall may help bounce light better. thank you susan!! ❤️❤️❤️
Stick with the pretty mauve wall. It's a very warm, feminine color. I love it, Carla. You did a great job with the floor!
The floor tiles look great. I always thought that would be hard to do but you have given me the courage to try it.
Love the floors and curtains. Walls White. Play with colors on the decor, easier if you want to change the look.
One thing that would make a big difference is it looks like your grout may be white and just stained on the counters - if you use toilet gel w bleach and a grout brush you can get them white again and it makes it visually so much cleaner because it reduces contrast between black and white.

Omg r u kidding me !!??? That color wall is gorgeous!!!! Love your whole vibe!!! Great job ..those curtains!!!! Wow Just beautiful
PS Love how the tiles turned out! And your stove is adorbs.

Love that floor! I like the pink wall and window treatment- good combo of rose tones.
thanks love!! xo
Really nice job on the floor , looks great! I would go with a shade of white that matches the design in the tile. Can’t wait for the next video!
that is what i was thinking! pull out the color from the tile. since i love that part of the kitchen most xo
Keep the Mauve wall. When you put the wall unit back you will see that you made the right choice. The curtains look great.
I like the mauve and I like the curtains, it’s softens the look of the room.
Definitely keep the mauve wall! I think once you get your shelf put back you will like it!
i think the white unit with the cream color just still is a bit off...more to be seen in part two xo
I liked more with white walls. The curtains are really pretty. With white walls the floor will be the ⭐️. Love the transformation. Great job. 👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

I would paint it a warm white. In addition, if the ground lines on the counter are discolored you can regroute them to give them a refresh.
I think with your shelving unit back on the pink wall to break it up the warmth will look good with those lovely tiles.
Thank you for being so real in your videos, it’s refreshing ! Keep it up, your doing a great job :)
Thank you so much!!
Omg the floor looks like it has always been there, its absolutely perfect!!! If you really dont like the wall after a few days i would say :go with your gut, invest half a day or a day of pain-by-painting instead of months/years KV trying go like it.Future carla will thank you!
Looks good. I wouldn't have the patience for all that work. If you're happy that's all that matters. Live with it. I'm with Samson at the beginning.
If you want the wall to be darker just buy a sample of the darker mauve colour and mix it with the lighter colour until you reach your desired shade. Live with the mauve for a bit with the shelves and goodies back in their former spots. I think you’ll find that with everything put back, the whole look will come together nicely!
Love the mauve wall breaks up all the white appliances and backsplash love the pop of color
Love your floors. It fits the warm tone of your cabinets.
Until I saw the video today I always thought those were your original kitchen tiles (not always watching in the right order) - so absolutely well done 💪🏼👍🏻❤️
Take the black chalk paint and paint your lower cabinets. It's easy and durable. Will give you the moodiness of your inspo pick.
Wow! I love the makeover and YES, keep the pink wall-- it's fabulous and looks great with the tile. Nice work, you DIY pro.
Thank you soooo much! 😊
PINK! So pretty! Once the color had about 24 hours to set, the color really turned out pretty. The white baseboard helped.
Your kitchen is coming together nicely. Love the floor! I think the mauve wall looks more interesting than the white. The white seems safe and rather predictable.

Gotta love the very real commentary in this video. Every blue moon I get brave and try to DIY... then I *vehemently* announce "never again!" 😂
Keep the wall it’s a very pretty colour and I think it was very close to your ideal colour

I’ve seen with some peel and stick tile you can grout them also to give a nicer look and longer last, also if you can move the oven back further or move the fridge and oven out and back in to finish off the tiles underneath and give a good clean
Also always ask! I’ve found some of the workers at lowes and Home Depot are really knowledgeable about what’s good and isn’t for certain projects and what you’re going for and what’s best
I love the tile with the pink/maybe better, also think painting the bottoms like the Inspo picture along with the baseboard to match would look so good!!
Great job with the tiles. I like the mauve wall Looking forward to part two
At first I didn’t think the tiles and mauve wall would work but it absolutely does!
I liked the way the wall looks with that tile
I love the tiles👍😁 The wall is nice, especially with the curtains. With your unit back in its place it will all blend well😁
I love the mauve wall with the tile. The white baseboards really make the difference. Love the curtains too. Would change a thing.
I really love the tile floor looks amazing and the mauve wall goes so well with the floor. Much better than white wall. The whole kitchen looks very warm and inviting. Great job.
Thank you so much!
Ohhhh my! Carla, My mom and I have painted every single room in our home. It's always more work that you think it will be, but it's always worth it.
I like the white wall and love the flooring! And love the curtains, maybe spray paint the curtain rod to match the gold clips?
Definitely keep the mauve wall. Everything looks amazing 👏! Well done Carla!
In my opinion the mauve is absolutely stunning with the tiles, it’s all the brown pink blush family
The floors came out great. Team Mauve all the way.😀. Also just in case this helps.....you can use a paint guide (small handheld device that makes it really easy to cut in) for around the trim/baseboards. I started using one years ago and it saves me so much time when cutting in ceilings. Great video!
Great job
I would consider painting the wall a paler version terracotta colour in the tiles
Well done
I love the Mauve wall!!! You did an amazing job!!!
I painted all my kitchen walls like a 70s orange because I had a vision....worst decision of my life. Your choices are so good!
Finally finishing up this project this weekend. Bought grout pen so tryin it out today!
Now that I have watched the whole video I can respond! Mauve wall to me is a no! Does not go with floor. Love the floor & curtains. I mentioned in another post about painting tile? Cabinets? If not on the cabinets giving them a good scrub and they make stuff u can put on them to make them look new😊
Love the floor curtains nice I like the wall if your not sure take a picture of your kitchen and have someone with a good eye help you pick a color
Ohhhhhhhhh my goodness just finished it it is gorgeous freaking beautiful I love the design the color of the floor everything goes so well oh my gosh 😍🤯❤️
yay thank you the tiles are just gorgeous right!!
I love the curtains, the mauve wall and especially the stick on tile! You have great taste. Made such a difference in your beautiful kitchen. I live in a 1920’s home and you’ve inspired me to freshen up my place, too. Great job!
love the mauve wall and I'm not a pink girl. The tiles are beautiful. You may have just inspired me to do our bathroom floor!
I love the pink wall I would paint the whole kitchen pink I love how it matches the floor tiles
Looks so fresh! I Would try an off white instead of the pink to keep the accent on the floor :)
Mauve wall for sure. Love the Café style windows. The floor looks good the baseboards look good. Great job good video
