I wish they would've showed that Russian kid who missed the empty net from his own end instead of gaining Center first and laughed about it. That icing led to the faceoff that led to the Eberle Goal. Little things make a big difference.
This is by far one of the best games I have ever seen in my life. Jordan Eberle is definately the hero of the year. Everytime I watch a video of this game, it just takes me back to when I was watching this. No word of lie, I jumped at least 3 feet of the chair that I was sitting in. I cannot wait for 2010, where team Canada will be competing for 3 golds, World Junior, and Men's and Women's Olympics. GO CANADA GO
They play in various leagues like the WHL, OHL etc. And yeah, Canada always wins. We won against the USA a couple days ago. We're going for our 6th straight gold medal in IIHF world juniors tomorrow. GO CANADA!
I was at this game live. With 30 seconds left the tournament officials begin preparing the flag of the winning team. I was sitting behind them watching the russian flag being prepared to raise. That and this being a elimination game, the emotions, the stakes, the atmosphere, the pride, and the rivalry. The two games can not be compared.
I don't think there is any better rivalry to watch than canada vs russia. We've both had an equal share of destroying each other and coming back against each other to win. It's just very entertaining to watch.
The best example is THe Summit Series 1972, it was incredible. Then in 2008 they tried to recreate it with Junior teams, however it was a cake walk for us. Canada went 7-0-1. (the 1 being a tie)
Canada vs the states is looking like a sick new North American rivalry for hockey. Could make for some great hockey for years to come. I love the Canada vs Russia rivalry but if Russia drops down a bit as a powerhouse (which isn't happening you're all nuts) this rivalry would fuel hockey for generations
Despite my fellow Russians losing, I still think it was a great game. I even cheered for team Canada in the finals when they beat sweden. They (Canada) are a phenomenal team.
This was a special group for sure. As much as we hate to admit it, most teams, Canadian or not, lose this game. Ellis, Tavares, Eberle. I hope they got laid big-time back then for coming through in the clutch against the russkies.
"I CAN, because of the fact that I'm very, very smart. If you'll allow me to demonstrate, basically, it comes down to simple geometry. Now, Gord, try to ignore those cheers while I draw your attention to this graph... pretty interesting stuff. My magical graph."
@wg390 Excuse? How bout fact! The 2010 winter Olympics were the result of Canada actually sending it's best team. A 7-3 shellacking of Russia and then a 3-2 overtime win against the U.S.A., it couldn't have been scripted any better by Hollywood. The last hockey world championship, I think the team Canada sent might have had two players from the Olympic team. That's a fact!
Heh, yet again Taveres gets credit for a great play by Eberle. There's a real love in for Tavares (who is a great player, don't get me wrong), but it seems like TSN are going out of their way to boost the guy.
Of course I don't want Russian hockey to decline. Russia and Canada is like Lakers vs Celtics or Yankees vs Red Sox. I was just making an observation on the future of ice hockey in Russia. It doesn't look bright if there's no money and investment in their support and infrastructure.
I'll be one to admit I'd much rather have Markstrom on Monday than Tokarski. Actually, going through all the teams, I'd love to preferably have Janus, but its not gonna happen.
@meunier251 They had Ovechkin & Kolvochuk and many other of their NHL talent. Funny thing seems to be that no NHL team goes deep with a Russian as their Star Player, they seem to be more about the money and chase it wherever it leads them whereas Canadian players tend to take pay cuts to stay with a team they think has a shot at winning the cup. That to me shows more character and heart. How many NHL teams have won with a Russian as their star? There might a few but I don't think of them.
Kovalchuk, Grebeshkov, Bryzgalov and Kalinin. Who are the rest four? Don't know what you mean saying that Canada had won the last world cup, maybe the juniors. I mean the adult World Cup in Switzerland.
@mikeystaubin i was there live for that game, you could NOT hear the music at all until we finished and realized we were that far ahead. Who cares is what i said. With a game this nuts, with this finish, who cares.
I'm talking about their overall future. Russia will always produce hockey players but not as many and not as dominant as they used to be. I believe Russia hasn't won as any international tournements recently. The KHL will help if doesn't fold in the near future.
Russia also hadn't got the strongest team, best players from NHL were also in playoffs. Only 6-7 players from the Russian team that won last WC will play in Olympics. And in last Olympics (in 2006) Russia outclassed Canada best team.
@meunier251 The Russians usually have their best and biggest stars at the World Championship because they've all been knocked out of the playoffs if their teams even made it in the first place. Russians are individuals in a team game and they tend to chase the money and eat up a teams salary cap so they can't sign anyone else. While Canadian stars are usually deep in the playoffs by the time that tournament comes along. We were criticized by IIHF for not sending enough of our stars.
it was a disgrace, i expected more from the russians. But you shouldn't give up on your country, I'm sure they'll come back with an amazing game like always. I never gave up on Canada when they lost to the swiss and then eliminated by the Russians in 2006 olympics. That's pretty much what happenned to Russia this year.
after watching this for the 100th time (and i was at this game) it blows my mind to think of how bad the Russians were at the Olympics. There are fundamental flaws with the Russian Ice Hockey federation, and regardless of Ovechkin Malkin Semin or Kovalchuk, this country will not contend in the future if changes aren't made
We have many great 2 way players. Fedorov is great defensive forvard, Yashin and Datsyuk too. Gonchar, Proshkin, D. & A. Markov, Tverdovskiy are very good in offence. And sure we have great goalies. Nabokov, Bryzgalov, Khabibullin and Varlamov all will compete for the #1 in olympic team. So Canada has no advantage in it. And we aren't winning championships cause we have a few top players. We are winning it cause we have a Great Team.
Oh man, I remember going crazy this night, probably the greatest game I have ever seen. Mcguire ruins the moment though on Eberle's goal. TSN should fire him and replace him with someone who knows how to announce.
Canada will continue to dominate in the future. Canada has a strong infrastructure that supports hockey. It has the most ice rinks (indoors and outdoors) in the world. Canadian juniors make up 38% of the world's junior players which is the highest. Comparatively Russia has very few ice rinks given its population. Russia's future is not so bright. It will be the Americans who will be our toughest competitors in the future.
@smackyo true we dont have our best players there, but neither do the russians, or a lot of teams actually. Im not trying to trash the world championchips but nobody sends their best possible team
Hehe, should be a good game on monday. Sweden kicked the shit out of Russia in the round robin like 5-0 or something so if Canada had so much trouble, I'm not sure if they can get it done on monday. But hey, I'm kind of a biased swede anyways, good luck to both teams on monday!
Of course! Petrov, Mikhailov, Kharlamov, Almetov, Alexandrov, Yakushev, Majorov, Fetisov, Loktev, Larionov, and many, and many... And plobably these friends are american.
I will name you a few players from khl. Zinovjev, Sushinskiy, Tereschenko, Nepriayev - these forwards very good in defence. You said "excluding Datsyuk". Oh yes, I think he is two heads over all players you named. You said, that you have an upper hand in offensive defencemen, cause leading goal scorers are canadian. Well, I didn't saw the statistics, mb it's true. But I think that it doesnt matter. Your players had leading statistics on last world chapionship. Did it help you to win?
yea true say, they at least have class, and admit this year Canada was the better team, maybe next year it will change, but Sweden just can't except it and makes excuses
This is one game, more specifically one goal, where I will always remember where I was and what I was doing when it happened. GO CANADA!
I CAN
pierre is a fuckin idiot
Not too often that someone comes along and kills the vibe of an entire nation
This is BY FAR the best hockey game that I have EVER watched
Wow come down in the last secs of the game and tying it to win it in shoot out is just amazing
I wish they would've showed that Russian kid who missed the empty net from his own end instead of gaining Center first and laughed about it. That icing led to the faceoff that led to the Eberle Goal. Little things make a big difference.

This was the first game of hockey I'd ever fully watching. Being, Canadian, it hasn't been as good until this year at the olympics.
I was in the building that night...one of the most incredible things I've ever experienced.
By the way - this video is proof of why most of my stuff is full screen - it took me two hours to get this up :P
They play in various leagues like the WHL, OHL etc. And yeah, Canada always wins. We won against the USA a couple days ago. We're going for our 6th straight gold medal in IIHF world juniors tomorrow. GO CANADA!

I don't think there is any better rivalry to watch than canada vs russia. We've both had an equal share of destroying each other and coming back against each other to win. It's just very entertaining to watch.
This is still the best ever International Game.
A close second is Canada/Usa in the Olympic's.
The best example is THe Summit Series 1972, it was incredible. Then in 2008 they tried to recreate it with Junior teams, however it was a cake walk for us. Canada went 7-0-1. (the 1 being a tie)
amazing
best video ever

great game
both teams did a great game!
nice !
Despite my fellow Russians losing, I still think it was a great game. I even cheered for team Canada in the finals when they beat sweden. They (Canada) are a phenomenal team.
Yep, as it should, our MIRACLE is now complete! GOLD CANADA GOLD!
This was a special group for sure. As much as we hate to admit it, most teams, Canadian or not, lose this game.
Ellis, Tavares, Eberle. I hope they got laid big-time back then for coming through in the clutch against the russkies.
As long as I live I would never forget this game the day I turned 21 so CANADA IS THE BEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD FOR HOCKEY
"I CAN, because of the fact that I'm very, very smart. If you'll allow me to demonstrate, basically, it comes down to simple geometry. Now, Gord, try to ignore those cheers while I draw your attention to this graph... pretty interesting stuff. My magical graph."
this game was epic. we exploded when we scored, Its all about Canada Baby!!
Pierre just killed the moment!!!
i know you guys would agree
its just so frikin beautiful
thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaanhksss !!! Eberle
@wg390 Excuse? How bout fact! The 2010 winter Olympics were the result of Canada actually sending it's best team. A 7-3 shellacking of Russia and then a 3-2 overtime win against the U.S.A., it couldn't have been scripted any better by Hollywood.

Greatest game ever in the WJC
CLASSIC just a CLASSIC
Heh, yet again Taveres gets credit for a great play by Eberle. There's a real love in for Tavares (who is a great player, don't get me wrong), but it seems like TSN are going out of their way to boost the guy.
WC 2008, winner - Russia, runner-up - Canada;
WC 2009, winner - Russia, runner-up - Canada;
last OG (Turin-2006), quarterfinal - Russia 2 - 0 Canada
High sticked in the face and still kicks it to his player.
WHAT AN AWESOME GAME GO CANADA GO!!! Russia did play extremely well also,
Canada take nothing for granted and snatch that gold,
Of course I don't want Russian hockey to decline. Russia and Canada is like Lakers vs Celtics or Yankees vs Red Sox. I was just making an observation on the future of ice hockey in Russia. It doesn't look bright if there's no money and investment in their support and infrastructure.
This is the only time you're allowed to.
I'll be one to admit I'd much rather have Markstrom on Monday than Tokarski. Actually, going through all the teams, I'd love to preferably have Janus, but its not gonna happen.
This be the day I came in to this world
i remember being at this game alot of people left or were disgraced with the the canuks and played south park on the tv lol

Tavares threw the puck at the net, goal doesn't happen if he doesn't do that
Kovalchuk, Grebeshkov, Bryzgalov and Kalinin.
@thewongaddress international will never be like 2 league teams playing eachother
epic game :D
amazing game, but i think the Canada USA game a few days earlier was a bit better.
mcguire needs to grow a set.
could watch this video all day.... what the hell does pierre say after they score? something something ice the puck
It seems people can't grasp the concept of someone editing the title afterward.
i like how the singing of the national anthem was sooooo off lmfao
Doesn't matter how young someone is, any canadian hockey fan should know damn well what the name "Henderson" means to our sport.
what happened in between those years?
CANADA!!!!! Hockey is our game!!! I love Canada.
Totally almost piseed myself watching this game.
I'm talking about their overall future. Russia will always produce hockey players but not as many and not as dominant as they used to be. I believe Russia hasn't won as any international tournements recently. The KHL will help if doesn't fold in the near future.

And in last Olympics (in 2006) Russia outclassed Canada best team.
I know this is a late reply, but i believe its hockey and mma fighters more so than soccer players.
wrong date in title.
@meunier251 The Russians usually have their best and biggest stars at the World Championship because they've all been knocked out of the playoffs if their teams even made it in the first place. 6:48, those are the two words that summed up russia's problems in the shootout
Frolov, Volchenkov and Zherdev didn't play in the final.
fuckin never yelled so loud in my life when they scored the tieing goal, are we good or are we just good
McGuire destroyed one of the most epic hockey moments ever.
Where was Filatov?
it was a disgrace, i expected more from the russians. But you shouldn't give up on your country, I'm sure they'll come back with an amazing game like always. I never gave up on Canada when they lost to the swiss and then eliminated by the Russians in 2006 olympics. That's pretty much what happenned to Russia this year.
as lame as this may sound, i shed a tear of joy while i was at this game!
fuck that tokarsky was a goddamn wall tonight
GOLD! that's all i gotta say
after watching this for the 100th time (and i was at this game) it blows my mind to think of how bad the Russians were at the Olympics. There are fundamental flaws with the Russian Ice Hockey federation, and regardless of Ovechkin Malkin Semin or Kovalchuk, this country will not contend in the future if changes aren't made
This was basically the Gold Medal game. There is no way Swedan will play as well as Russia did here, gotta give 'em props. CANADA 4 GOLD!
do you want an apology?? geeez take a chill pill
It's not much different in the NHL... 5 min OT then shootout. And atleast in Internation hockey the gold medal game has a 20 min OT before overtime.
I 100% agree with that. & I dont think theres a "probably the 2nd best" they are the 2nd best.
PS - As I Lay Dying are awesome :D
We have many great 2 way players. Fedorov is great defensive forvard, Yashin and Datsyuk too. Gonchar, Proshkin, D. & A. Markov, Tverdovskiy are very good in offence. And sure we have great goalies. Oh man, I remember going crazy this night, probably the greatest game I have ever seen. Mcguire ruins the moment though on Eberle's goal. TSN should fire him and replace him with someone who knows how to announce.
IF I WAS a Russian fan, I would be fumming at the lack of Filatov in the shootout when the needed to score... BUT I'M NOT, so... YA WE WON!!!
Not matter. The fact is, we can win without many our leaders, and we have just prove that.
what happened at 1:41?!
Expect Nemchinov to be sacked after the tournament, just like Crawford was fired because he didn't put Gretzky in Nagano.
that's true.
Canada will continue to dominate in the future. Canada has a strong infrastructure that supports hockey. It has the most ice rinks (indoors and outdoors) in the world. He drives me crazy, even worse than Weekes. xD
haha pat quinn looks like he's the losing teams coach when they show him
Why are we making such a concern about this now? Internationals have been using shootouts for decades now.
It was being played much too slow. They should've left it off and let the crowd sing it.
and pierre mcguire completely ruins the moment by not shutting up
Maybe they wont agree, but a 99% of people in Russia will say you that the world championship is bigger than the stanley cup.
@smackyo true we dont have our best players there, but neither do the russians, or a lot of teams actually. Im not trying to trash the world championchips but nobody sends their best possible team
Because they have a contracts with their clubs. They have no rights to leave the club until the season's ending.
you didn't watch the U.S. Canada game did you? Then you would know why.
Hehe, should be a good game on monday.
Sweden kicked the shit out of Russia in the round robin like 5-0 or something so if Canada had so much trouble, I'm not sure if they can get it done on monday.

And plobably these friends are american.
National anthem singing fail.... lol Oh well we still won!!
Ah yes, Canada where they say eh a lot and aboot instead of about.
Pierre McGuire ruined it when he said "I can believe it" when Eberle scored.
I am english; but i love CANADA!
electric!
the drive for five is alive...
I will name you a few players from khl. Zinovjev, Sushinskiy, Tereschenko, Nepriayev - these forwards very good in defence. You said "excluding Datsyuk". 2011 WJHC. We've got the Americans shaking in their boots. Say goodbye to your gold medals USA.
@ArcticMikee pierre mcguire's a goof
yea true say, they at least have class, and admit this year Canada was the better team, maybe next year it will change, but Sweden just can't except it and makes excuses
