    For Vietnamese, We choose the lotus root based on the numbers of root hole. If you want to be soft get the 7 holes -suit for soup and 9 holes if you want to taste it crunchy.. Its our tip

      I had no idea that the number of holes on the lotus stem would decide whether it would be soft or crunchy . You have taught me something new .

    Hello Maangchi! I just wanted to let you know that you inspired me to make Korean food since I have began to watch your videos. My family was quite skeptical about it but eventually I won them over and every weekend that I come home they ask me to make them something. We are Romanian so understandably this kind of food is quite different. When I visited some family in Romania as well, I brought some key Korean ingredients and made for my relatives. They absolutely loved it. I want to thank you for your recipes and they have been a huge success with everyone that has ever tried them! Thank you so much!!

    My mom (chinese) makes something similar but she adds ketchup. I don't think she braises it as long. It's usually quite crispy/crunchy. I let some of my caucasian friends try it and they said it tastes like a raw potato with ketchup (i dont thin they liked it lol) but it's one of my fav dishes.

    The Asian grocer I go to has lotus root already cut and prepared in a sealed 1 lb (500g) bag in the cooler. I picked a bag up the other day and added some to a veggie stir fry that I served alongside char siu pork ribs. The roots were crispy and about 1/4" thick. Imo, they are a nicer substitute for water chestnuts. They taste better and made the stir fry prettier. Your braised roots look yummy and I believe I shall have to give your recipe a try. Thank you for the excellent presentation.

    I searched and searched for nice lotus root. It was always spotty and moldy. But yesterday I had the great luck of arriving at the store just as an employee was stocking the lotus root! I'm so excited to finally try this recipe.

    • @Maangchi
      @Maangchi  7 лет назад +18

      Yes, you can use corn syrup, too. Or use 1/2 cup brown or white sugar.

    망치♥님! '연근 조림' 정말 좋아요!!
    비빔밥도 있던데, '뿌리채소밥' 도 해 주세요^^ -연근,고구마,우엉.. 넣고 밥해 간장양념장으로 비벼먹으면, 건강식이예요(기대합니다~♥)
    참, '밑반찬' 이라는 정감 넘치는 말씀과 함께 소개해 주시고 시식을 하시는 모습이 좋아 보이세요. 맛나 보여 같이 먹고 싶습니당~^*
