When you shop in an Asian market, you will find lots of Chinese vegetables that you have never cooked before, such as bok choy, choy sum, Gai Lan, lettuce stem, bitter melon, wax gourd, yard beans, and mustard green... If you want me to do a take on other vegetables, let me know by leaving a comment. Thank you for watching =)
I always come across bitter melon and mustard green in both Asian markets and Canadian supermarkets. it would be great if you could do one of your future videos with those 😀
Yes! Please educate us on vegetables that are in Asian markets but not in American grocery stores. I see so much beautiful produce in Asian stores that I would love to try.
Lotus root use to be in do many Chinese dishes we had in the Chinese restaurants when I was growing up. These days there are hardly any Chinese vegetables being used anymore. It's so sad really. You are such a great teacher! Can't wait to try these recipes!
Thank you for your videos on these “different” foods . I have seen different fruits or vegetables in market but with out information on how to use or even cook them. Your channel it my “go to site” to learn from. I will give these a try
I wanna say thank you so much for all your beatiful recipes am blessed with your channel I'm From Egypt and the Asian cuisine isn't really famous in our country but i always make asian food for my family and friends also you talk in a chill and humble way hope you all the best ♥️
Such wonderful and creative recipes for lotus root. I’ve only ever made deep fried lotus root chips, which are so delicious, but now with these new recipes my lotus root game is fully on! Thank you so much Mandy for continually inspiring me to get out of my comfort zone in the kitchen.
I would like to thank you for showing lotus root and how to prepare it I was actually a terrified her for vegetable I didn't know how to cook it I thought it was similar to a potato or eggplant, thank you for showing me.❤
Wonderful recipes! The pancakes look especially interesting. And so quick--I see many breakfast recipes that take 30-40 minutes. And I love meatballs. Finding new recipes is always great.
I will try the fresh lotus root recipes. I have bought it prepared from the grocery. By the way I bought the knives and they are fantastic. The cleaver is so perfectly balanced I am able to cut things so much thinner.
These look delicious, I love lotus root. Someday would you show us some ways to cook bitter melon? And tell us where you got those ADORABLE pepper grinders!
Thank you for watching. I I may make a video on bitter melon (hesitanting because youtube algorithm doesn't promote non-popular ingredients like that) You can buy the pepper grinders on my website - curatedkitchenware.com/products/pepper-mill-grinder-with-fox-design
I love lotus root and I found that I loved to make it in your Hong Shao Rou recipe, together with the pork. And the best thing is, it doesn't matter that you simmer it for an hour and a half, the lotus roots are still crunchy by the end of it! It's amazing :D And now I have more recipes to try it on! I'm going to make those meatballs immediately, this weekend they'll be in my table, I swear. Also, I dunno about other asian vegetables but I would love more lotus root recipes!
Hi Mandy, thanks for the great content! I would like to learn how to best prepare bitter gourd! I like the sweet aftertaste it has, especially in soups, yet sometimes it just becomes overwhelmingly bitter.
Thanks for sharing these recipes, lotus root is one of my favourite vegetables and it's great to learn new recipes using it. Please share some recipes using winter melon or burdock root :)
I bought a $1 bag of lotus roots yesterday at a grocery and I’ve never cooked it before, so this video was very helpful! I am going to definitely try the meatballs first, and the others also if I still have more leftover. Thank you 🙏
Thank you for watching. You can get the grinder on my website - curatedkitchenware.com/products/pepper-mill-grinder-with-fox-design I have three designs: panada, fox and cat. I love them all LOL!
Ahhh Mandy thank you for your videos and all the hard work you put in. I didn’t like lotus root when I made them, because , and you will think I’m weird, hate crunchy vegetables, yep I like my veggies soft sometimes mushy 😋. And the lotus roots didn’t get sort at all even after cooking them for a long time, but I think I will give it another try with the meatballs.
If you don't like crunchy vegetables, you should try the lotus pancakes then. It doesn't have the crunchy texture anymore. Instead, it is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside like a hash brown LOL!
@@SoupedUpRecipes ahhhhhh you made my night 😍😍😍😍, thank you so much for the response, I will definitely try your recommendation, and all the best wishes, with good health and long life.

@@SoupedUpRecipes I will. it's just strange making meatballs with different types of proteins and some plant-based but never thought of using lotus root before. Thanks again enjoy the rest of your week.

Thanks for the great video! Burdock is a vegetable i've never cooked with and am curious about which I see at our local market frequently. That would be a very interesting video for me :-).
maangchi has some good korean recipes using burdock. check out her yukgaejang video (spicy beef vegetable soup). I'd love to know how they use it in chinese cuisine as well, though.
Very creative with the lotus root! I some times add salted fish, ground pork in the chopped up lotus roots and shape them into patties for frying. Can you please tell me what brand is your pskillet and where I can order it! Thank you so much.

Always the best chinese cooking channel. I'd like to know how to cook fresh and dried 山药. I only can use it as an ingredient for japanese okonomiyaki. Is it true that in China it is used also to put on the face skin to make it softer and silky?
Thanks a lot for the recipes. I was planning a trip to the asian shop tomorrow, i ll see if they have some lotus root. Like doing batch cooking when it s so hot, and they look easy, tasty and not « heavy » :). Do you happen to know typical summer food that could be cooked easily? Thanks again!

This is the simplest lotus root recipe that I've ever seen. A little part of me assumes that it makes it the best 🤔 There it is. I'm going to have this as a side. My mother in law asked for a Sichuan dinner for mother's Day.
