- Mikhail Pletnev's performance of this concerto in 1991 has something I can't describe that stands out from all the other versions I've listened to, I can also enjoy other versions, but I always come back to this one.
33-year-old Mikhail Pletnev plays Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No. 1 in b flat minor, Opus. 23, with Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Vladimir Fedoseyev.
00:00 First Movement
21:04 Second Movement
28:04 Third Movement Кино
I have to admit that this is probably the pinnacle of recordings of this concerto, the Steinway sound is divine and the orchestra and pianist are in perfect balance.. this is music from heaven
Listen to Weissenberg play it with Karajan... now that is the top recording
This man possesses the type of smooth transition that most people will never master in a million years. It shows not only work ethics and discipline but also natural gifts. He has a sense of rhythm that makes one want to get up and live. What a gifted soul. This is a bright star! :)
I listened to many versions of this Concerto, but this is just the best. Really.
Give a try to Cziffra's version
@@yoyogie69 -- True...Cziffra Rules.....especially that Faschinsschwanc aus Wien "Intermezzo".....BRAVO from Mexicl City!
@@yoyogie69 yep true
This is the greatest, most imaginative performance of this I ever heard; it's as if I'm hearing it for the first time! I don't want to know those 17 unmusical slobs who voted this thumbs down; their spirits must be as "dark as Erebus."
What a performance! Earlier this year I attended a Russian National Orchestra concert which Mikhail Pletnev conducted. The program included a Prokofiev symphony and the Chopin Piano Concerto No 1 with the young George Li as soloist who was very good.
its thirteen now
@pyrotechnic5254 Did you actually listen to Pletnev and Fedoseyev's performance here? I know the Cliburn petrformances, studio and live, and they are among the best, but this live Pletnev is revelatory.
Agreed. I keep coming back and coming back.
Now 18 idiots. I think rap would suit them well.
One of the best composer of the 18th century. Russia's pride . Such a magnificent piece of music. 1819, swan lake, sleeping beauty, the Nutcracker suite.
Just imagine seeing Russia right now, majestic, proud and dignified country. Love Russia.
Well this aged well 🤣
200% electricity, magnificent performance, pianist on 🔥 orchestra and conductor!
Hands down one of the best interpretations of this concerto ! Absolutely perfection ! SUBLIME 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟👏👏👏👏👏!!!
Mikhail Pletnev - is not just a brilliant pianist, he has amazing self-control - when a string suddenly broke during a performance at the Tchaikovsky competition, Mikhail Pletnev played everything flawlessly without batting an eye. . .
The acoustics of the hall gave it such amazing side affects... amazing!!
Side effects. Lol!!
when I mean side effects I mean that when I first heard it with headphones I though the trumpets were behind me and the flutes above...@@kevinm6790 🤣
Lol !
This is the greatest version ever !!!
Best videos on RUclips are generally the videos with the least views, which is quite obvious as the true art can't be understood by most
The hits views leaders youtube= Lisitsa 58 million Mischa Maisky 54 million Pavarotti 49 million Diana Damrau 49 million Anna Fedorova 36 million( Rachmaninov piano concerto no 2!) Maisky Damrau Fedorova second-Rated players! Crazy world!
I'm so glad that I lived after Tchaikovsky and Pletnev, and not before.
Wow.....DEEP.....Cheers from Mexico City!
the absolut master of this concerto! hats off!
Fantastic Rendition of one of the greatest piano concertos of all time, Bravo !!!!!
Well this is always been my favorite piano piece just found this on RUclips. But my headset in and listened and it was all I could do for my crying it was so unbelievably beautiful! Thank you so much for posting. a gift from God this man's Talent.
Best pianist alive
Absolutely 💯
I happened to listen to this particular version and could never find another one this is somewhat closer to this.
Please check van Cliburn and Kondrashin, the epic RCA recording of the fifties
pletnev is mad!!!!! bravo~~~~~~perfect!!!!!
Absolutely marvelous, perfect, heart-moving performance. I got chills watching, listening Mr.Pletnev playing piano and the out=of-this-world orchestra. Lucky the people who attended: this is once in a lifetime experience
Frederic, you are right. Not an easy piece to pull off. The piece must have power and grandness, but suffers if it is overblown. Pletnev brings a lightness, almost Chopinisque, and virtuosity.
Pletnev the most powerful Loudest pianist ever( Prokofiev piano concerto no 1 by Pletnev) Supernova Explosion power by Pletnev! The Second Loudest pianist was Lazar Berman!
Amazing skill and passion on the piano. A relatively small orchestra with a an enormous powerful impact.. EXCELLENT
I have no words for this, except it is the greatest rendition I ever heard of the piece by such a long way I'm speechless!
The most lush and perhaps memorable of all piano concerto's.
This performance is just trascendental! Doesn't get any better than this.
AMEN !
A performance of real individuality and style. The numerous 'interpretive touches' are fascinating in their spontaneity and the main cadenza of the first movement is like an improvisation. Pletnev's technique is effortless and gives him the ability to respond to the inspiration of the moment. Tchaikovsky's great work sounds fresh and new. Other performances that shed new light on this very popular concerto and lift the music off the page are 'live' accounts by Cherkassky, Horowitz, Cziffra and Lang Lang.
Pletnev is a genius
Non Tchaikovsky Genius
No.
Pletnev is only a interpreter.
The really genius is Tchaykovsky
Absolutly brilliant !Thank you !
Moments like these give me faith in our humanity. No human can do that without divine/ alien guidance.
The performance is electric from the first second. Fedoseyev projects power and majesty.
You are right !
He makes the music dance
Absolutely great! Fedoseyev & Pletnev, the best performance I heard.
Pletnev is great here, but so is the rest of the ensemble. There is so much heart and synergy, incredible execution
This was recorded in 1991 as part of the Tchaikovsky Cycle by Vladimir Fedoseyev and the Moscow Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the cycle was one of the last things credited to that name; in late 1991, the orchestra changed its name to the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra. Maestro Fedoseyev was with the orchestra from 1974 to 1999 and again from 2006 to the present.
This is a beautiful recording.
My absolute favorite version of the magnificent concerto!! Thank you so much for posting this!
Thank you so much for adding it in your last video! Thanks to you I've (re)discovered this piece, which I've never been fond of initialy... until now!
@@lois1566 You're welcome. I'm glad that you rediscovered this piece through my video. It means a lot!
great pianist.
Thank you for uploading this recording, which I've never heard before. Perhaps the "something I can't describe" is Pletnev's consistently intelligent musicianship, which always shows through in his very best performances - of which this is definitely one.
Thanks for your appreciation !! ^^
By the way, I think the recording quality is also amazingly good, considering this was not recorded in the recent days (I don't know the exact year though..)
Indeed, the recording quality is impressive.
Wonderful performance!
Nice and wonderful forever
Wow, I agree, that "certain something"! Also agree that the recording of the piano is extra special
Absolutely perfect!
yes, thankyou for sharing this 🙂 x
This one. This one and Argerich do it for me.
What a talent!
1:27 Beautiful the way his hand slides on piano
Thanks for sharing. Listening with the score underlines the quality of this version!
A most beautiful performance.i love Mikhail Pletnev, a great artist, I have seen him also conducting the orchestra while playing the piano, will have to find it. There were some people inquiring if possible? He did it masterfully.

superb
Brings back memories of the movie "Harold and Maude".
Recorded 1991 , Pletnev being 33 years old
So nice!!
He really showed the goods with that opening.
1. 0:02 - _Allegro non troppo e molto maestoso_
2. 21:04 - _Andantino semplice_
3. 28:04 - _Allegro con fuoco_
awwsome
Wow
I like Pletnev interpretation very much. Still, my number 1 is Alexei Sultanov interpretation of this concerto.
Sultanov was really great . R.I.P. ...but not even close to Pletnev .
WOW〜〜〜👏🏻
There are a lot of excellent recordings for this concerto.
...but most of them pale in comparison to this one, if you ask me!
Sehr Schön
He is musician. Many others can just be named piano players.
*Fu Ning* A piano player is a pianist. A pianist is a musician. A musician is a person who plays an instrument professionally or a musician is just a person who has great experience in any instrument in general.
Agree. He does not only knows his part, he understand the whole work, each instrument part, he knows each one´s roll, full armony, trempo, perfect ensamble, is like he has the WHOLE SCORE in his mind and then he makes it music, not like solely a soloist but as a one rich sound with whole orchestra.
My thoughts exactly!
Well said. Point!
I agree. And they believe that only the technique is enough...
Russia has the best musicians in the world and now the best tennis players in the world....
Thank you Maestro Pletnev for this wonderful version.
So much nicer than the over flamboyant Lang Lang version IMO.
Indeed! Lang Lang ruins everything!
@j k Well, isn't that what you're doing with your comment?
@SteVladherman So what?
@SteVladherman Imbecile.
Why so much hate with Lang Lang? He's amazing!

très beau
Celine Romain Oui j'adore !! ^^
Pletnev is the GOaT
I have my opinions, and I *personally* think Argerich is better in *almost* every aspect, the musicality (dynamics), the tempo (rubatos), and the precision and speed.
So, I would have to disagree with you. But, this all is my opinion, since I cannot do any better then Pletnev.
Check Argerich's version on RUclips for yourself and compare it to Pletnev's version. Let me know your opinion.
(No offense intended against you or Pletnev)
More beautiful colorful piano sound than Argerich=Wilhelm Kempff Emil Gilels Artur Rubinstein Radu Lupu Vladimir Ashkenazy! More powerful Louder than Argerich=Pletnev Supernova Explosion Power!( Prokofiev piano concerto no 1 by Pletnev!) The Second Loudest pianist was Lazar Berman! More Genius than Argerich=Sviatoslav Richter Solomon Cutner Grigory Sokolov Maurizio Pollini Alexei Lubimov Stanislav Igolinsky! Argerich not the most powerful! Argerich not the best genius! Argerich not had the best piano sound!
Awesome, in the year of this concert was the beginning of the transformation of the USSR. I wonder how the events would have influenced Pletnev’s emotions, great artist but human being after all. Indeed, I have the same thought whenever I listen to 1991 concerts rendered by Russian performers.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
33:25 best part!

Wwwoooowwwweeeee
Vladimir Ashkenazy's Piano Conceeto was the most perfect
No
I like Ashkenazy very much, but no one is perfect.
So I wanted to ask if you've watched "He's with me" - another RUclips series? Not as good as "The Outs" but worth a watch. So far you have a very eclectic site: "The Outs", Vengerov, Zalai, Pletnev and errm... a romantic scene!! Good for you :-)
Haven't heard of the series, thanks for the suggestion, I'll watch it later :-)
And Thank you for the recognition!! My guilty pleasure does cover quite a wide range of things ^^ and I will keep on sharing more of them ! So stay tuned ;)
Gary Oldman on the keys

Mikail Pletnev
Proudly made in Russia 🇷🇺
what is that in 33:39, sounds like a person having a climax xD
sublime performance
Omg I never noticed that before 😂😂😂
Looks like a young Gary Oldman destroying that piano! Wonderful Pletnev! :)
One of the most impressive overtures!
25:45 storm!!!
He also looks like mikkelson which is pretty cool
Okay RUclips this is getting too much, I've had 4 sets of ads (including at the start) and I'm only 17 minutes in

Thank you for this rare vdo. His interpretation was beautiful and unique. However, I personally see Richter with Karajan version as the gold standard for this concerto, IMHO.
At 23.28 only 1 violoncello ( sometimes there are two ? )
love this part 10:48 those octaves are so clean
