    Ahoy, mate. I have a Mac 25 in Austin, TX I like to sail on lakes and the Gulf. They are nice simple boats and the swing keel lets me beach it if the mood strikes. Keep up the dream.

      +Comanche Don bushcraft Thank you for your comments.comments. Lil Dreamer is put away for the winter but I have some awesome adventures planned for next year. including Grand Traverse bay, Saginaw Bay, Jobbie Nooner again, and the lake Erie islands again. Buying a Mac was a great move for me. I really enjoy sailing Lil dreamer. I'm sure when you find one you will too.

      Lots of us on there and happy to answer questions. I would think that since your post was 2 years ago you would have found that by now. But for others... I have a 1971 Mac 22 and love it. They are very stable with the keel down and if you are like me and not worried about the bottom paint you can crank up the keel and rudder and beach her. I've done it without even scratching the bottom paint. Stepped right off the bow onto the beach dry feet.

    Good job. Right there with you. We have a MacGregor 22 here in Nashville/Hendersonville. Had to single hand many times..not too bad in lite wind but very difficult when the wind picks up. Thinking about using sail slugs and making a furler to make things a little easier all around

    The video was interesting. I used to have a Mac 22 sailboat and am very familiar with them. For the life of me I can not understand why you do not rig your boat as it was intended. Get a fiddle block and rig your main sheet correctly. Or you could do what I did and rig it as a mid-boom sheeting and anchoring the control to the bridge deck at the companion way. I put a traveler there so I could move the control line out of the way when going in and out of the cabin. The cleat in front of the motor is there to secure the motor in the up position, leaving the block and cam cleat for the main sail control. You may also want to close the cabin top when sailing and use a boomvang. This will keep the mast from raising up causing poor sail shape. In short get a owner's manual for the Mac 22 and get your running rigging correct. And one more thing, get rid of the old frayed lines (rope) and get some new lines. But hey, it's your boat enjoy sailing.

      That was my first year sailing. I have completely changed the rigging to more of what you just described. and i do close up the cabin when sailing now. you may have noticed my sheet lines were inside the shrouds instead of outside. another newbie mistake. Thanks for noticing. I welcome critizizm of all types. always learning.

      I am glad to hear that. I used to really enjoy my Mac 22. I decided to go bigger and got a Mac 26 D, that was the first generation water ballast boat. It was strictly sailing and had a daggerboard. It too was a really fun boat. I now sail a Precision 18. Considerably smaller but it does everything I need. Feel free in contacting me at louisreis@yahoo.com if you want to discuss some of the modifications I made. Then again, experimenting is part of the fun.

      I just got a MacGregor 22...it doesn't seem like there is anything to keep the boom up. I did the aft rigging (properly, I believe) and I have a vang that I couldn't figure out...the lines were not long enough to reach from the bottom of the boom to just aft of the mast...anyway...does nothing clip to the aft of the boom to secure it in an upright position? I have never had a boat that rigs like this, and the manual is as confusing as hell...feeling stupid and hoping to find some help. Thanks!

    • @loureis4539
      @loureis4539 4 года назад

      @@jerrysteward4149 All you need is about 25 feet of 1/8 inch line. secure it at the top of the mast where the aft stay is attached, then run it down to the back of the boom. Use an adjustable knot to secure it there. then when you are sailing it can be loosened, and when the sail is furled and secured to the boom you can raise the boom up and out of your way.

    Might help you. put your main on at the dock. you'll need something to hold the sail in the track, a screw works or tie wrap. That way all you have to do is pull. Also. Why raise the sails when drifting? as you left the dock under power into the wind, raise the main. tie it off mid-ship, then raise the jib. Then when you're ready to sail turn the bow in the direction you want to start off in, and go.

      The main luff is a boltrope not slides. Can't feed it in and then drop onto a holding pin.

    Nice video, a bit fast but I could hit stop when I wanted to take a closer look. If you would please explain, your two-pulley system on your main sheet and does this, make the main sheet truly hands free. what size line are you using and how much play is left in the lines. I take it this system can be used on most any sailboat of similar size. Always looking for ways to make single handed sailing easier. Thanks for any information (pro & con)

      The two pully system I was using in this video is not a good rig. It put the pull pressure on the high side of the boat making the lean more dramatic. it is best to use a fiddle block on a traveler.

      Welcome to the club. They are a great trailer sailing boat. I don't have a bimini. I use a blue tarp that i drap over the boom when I'm in port.

    I have a Mac 22. I don't often put my poptop up, but it seems like it only goes forward. Did you do something to make yours go back over the cockpit like that?

      Always happy to meet anouther Nac owner. Were do you sail ? The top has gone that way since i bought it. If it went forward it would hit the mast. There is some brackets that i belive were for braces to hold the top up

      +S/V Lil Dreamer's Adventures Well, I have not played with the poptop much, but will try and report back. I mostly day sail on Canyon Ferry Lake, but have a campsite with slip reserved for 5 days on Flathead lake in August. Lots of boat projects this summer: good waxing, LED navigation and cabin lights, new electrical panel. Lots of fun..

    Awesome video, I had noticed that when you dropped the keel that you didn't put the the lock bolt in. Is this a normal practice? I was just curious because I recently purchased one and have been reading up on the boat.

    • @svlildreamersadventures6404
      @svlildreamersadventures6404  7 лет назад +1

      I did not lock the keel because i was in a small lake with a lot of sand bars. by not locking the keel down if i hit a sand bar the boat does not get spun around. also there was little chance of a knock down in these conditions. I would recommend locking the keel down when in rougher water and higher winds. if you get knocked down and the keel swings up the boat could go completely over .

      Better to lock early than too late. Only had to lock mine once and that was in port in a bad storm. Parted my keel winch cable like it was a shoe string.

      thanks for the comment. Creating these videos has been a learning experience. I admit this video makes me sick also. I was using a head mounted camera. I do not use that mount anymore for that reason. I now also use stabilization software to help stabilize the video as it is still hard to keep the camera steady when sailing.

    Maybe spend some time whipping the ends of your lines and get rid of those cheap poly lines !

    Interesting story, but the camera work was so jerky that I got motion sickness watching this. Also, it seemed like most of the video was in fast forward, which is tolerable for only brief periods. You would do better to skip the parts you think are unimportant.
