Congrats guys...that's a huge achievement. I've been around Cape Horn too, though I was on the helm of USS Nimitz. We spent 2 weeks tying everything on the ship down. We were expecting seas of up to 60 feet, but got lucky and went right in between storms and seas were around 30 feet. Still, we were frequently taking water over the bow when we rolled I'd see nothing out the bridge window but grey sea in one direction, and nothing but grey sky in the other. I remember explicitly our captain coming on about 24 hours prior and stressing "If you fall overboard, the motor lifeboats are out of the question and the helo is on a 1-hour standby. Your life expectancy at this water temperature is 13 minutes. We will not stop." I cannot imagine doing it in a small boat.
Congrat, great passage! Tnx for the great video too, felt the pumping, the acceleration of planing with this fine J. Lucky to have fair weather within forcast (exceeding it is the real nail biter).
"WOW" I really enjoy every moment of this journey. I only wish that In my next life I can also accomplish this Dream to. Congratulations to both, you did it... "Bravo" Sending Love from Orlando FL. Captain Mojito.
Exciting, exciting, exciting. If there's an award for great sailing you would win hands down. Is the best of ever seen. You are tough cookies, I can't believe almost sixteen knots, wow. I love the line , we were almost knocked down but nothing to it. What are you gonna do for an encore l o l. Great filming, I'm going to watch it again. What a team. Thank you for taking me along.
Thank you for your video you now have a new subscriber. Your video gave me some sense of what it's like to sail around Cape horn. It's the best sailing video I've ever seen. Must have been exhilarating and scary at the same. Well done a big well done. Sailing and videoing whilst going around Cape horn fantasticl
You're such a great team. Impressive communication skills from both of you. Great footage doing the jibe on the way down to the Horn. What an achievement. Congratulations!
Crying laughing cheering and on the edge of my chair you two are meant for this life on the open sea everything is possible love the editing and most importantly the love you have for each other and Roxy too ! If you keep doing what your doing you keep getting what your getting ! Thank you soooo much !
Wow! We are speechless at this comment. Humbled and grateful. We are so lucky to share this journey with you. Thank you for the kind words amd following along. Glad we could bring enjoyable entertainment. Cheers! And fair winds!
Congratulations from the deep of my soul.... I am a sailor just like you guys but never imagine me crossing the Horn on my sailboat, you are a very BRAVE couple. God bless you guys and thank so much for your video, it is wonderful. Naf from California USA, Berkeley Marina.
I guess the enjoyment is in doing all that ship handling because that seems like alot of work. But, I guess that's what sailing is all about. Too much work for me. I love being on the ocean but I'd have to motor. You sailors are a different breed. Kudos to you and sailing around Cape Horn is no small feat. Many boats have vanished there. Hats off to you. Thanks for taking me along. I'll subscribe.
Wow good job you guys! Also over 15 knots boat speed indicated!!!!!!!!!!!! I think this might be the wildest ride I've ever seen a sailboat endure on RUclips....and I've seen thousands.
Wow guys, great job! Congrats on the passage, that’s one scary ride down there, but you breezed thru it! So impressed. I really want to learn how to sail so this doesn’t scare me to death just to watch. 👍
Not being a sailor I have a question, How else would they steer around the cape if not hand steering? Relying on some auto steering system looks terrifying to me. This type of seas and weather scare me to death. You are brave souls. We’ll done.
OK, Captain Curtis just pointed out Cape Horn..... And showed us. Nothing can replace the smile on his face that he is confident in his mate, his boat and the combined skills that has him right where he is. B. R. A. V. O. ‼️🎉👍🏻
The very first thing I have to say is you guys are bad a****Absolute bad a**, it's very cool video. Watching the way you guys handle the sea and your vessel was awesome! I just Purchased at thirty seven foot Tartan mast head sloop. My first sailboat was a 34 foot Coney plex. I loved it, but it's not enough rno. Head no galley, really no room at all. I could not stand up in the cabin. I fell in love with living on the water immediately, but also I knew after the first weekend, I wanted abigger boat. It's been 20 years since then, But the sea has been calling me ever since. After the passing of my mother in February, and then having to put down Jed, my pup and best friend for 17 years a month later, it's time! Nothing holding To make me stay here anymore. So I bought this boat and it is time to go. I have a couple questions for you guys or anybody else reading comments. What kind of navigation system do you guys have or which would you suggest the best one to purchase? Because I really am ignorant when it comes to sailing, I can get up wind once i'm familiar with the rigging. I took the Hard Hitter out on many solo cruises and never really had any problems, but that was all in the Gulf of Mexico out of St. petersburg, and mostly fair conditions. Once I get Rebecca ready, my first destination will be Peru. I just gotta see the Panama canal and then find a shaman somewhere around Cuzco to make some ayahuasca for when I hike to Machu Picchu, Which is something I've been wanting to do for ever but have not been in the right mindset. But as of now i am at peace with everything. So I wanna get that out of the way first. And by the way, the Coney plex that I bought the hard. Hitter had been sailed around the horn. Y and I do believe that old man bought twisted that boat and half. The diagonal crack in the teakwood on the bulkhead was proof of that. Anyway, so any advice of what equipment to get what to do.I am doubling up on everything. Again, you guys are awesome! You made the Horn look easy! Be safe out there,
Thanks for the wonderful comment. We wish you all the best for your upcoming adventure! Our website has all the information about our systems www.sweetruca.com and we show lots of setup in some other videos. As far as what is the best for you and your boat and sailing style? We think you should choose what works for you and what you like. Make sure what you choose integrates with your other systems, especially your autopilot and radar. There are many conflicting and strong opinions on things like navigation systems, anchors, sails, keels, etc! All of the products from the major instrument manufacturers are excellent these days. We love our PredictWind and DataHub setup for routing, but we also have aboard a slightly more race oriented software from Expedition Marine. Don’t forget OpenCPN and the various iPad style chart apps for even more flexibility. Good luck and stay safe and well!
We did the same trip in jan 2011 nice to feel your excitement and handling the boat love it, after this we sailed through the fjords up to Panama and cir-cum navigated South America
Thanks for sharing your incredible adventure around Cape Horn. As I sat watching this video I had a big smile on my face, I was so proud of both of you, GREAT JOB!!!
What can I say ? If you’re looking for ocean sailing on You Tube then this is IT ! The Right Boat, The Right Voyage, and Best of all, the Right Crew ! Congratulations Captain Curtis and Kate !
Sailing around Cape Horn? You must have nerves of steel... or should I say, a certain part of you made of titanium! Truly impressive! This is hands down the best boat video I've ever seen.
Incredible footage! 48 knots of wind... three reefs and boat speed 15.4 knots WOW! Congratulations! A super sailing effort! A grand accomplishment. WOW!
It's not fair - Words can't express the joy you give with your Cap Horn rounding safely. Congratulations are far too light a word for the enormity of your achievements. Your both enrich your lives as well as people like myself view your fine documentary of the main event. Thank you, SV. Skoiern IV
Cape Horn the Everest of sailors. Congratulations to you both. Thank God your Main didn't blow out.. Love watching heavy weather sailing and you certainly got it...Well done to you both and Roxy. Wishing you fair weather for the rest of your journey. Regards from Australia..
Wonderful! Curtis, you are a true leader. Your knowledge and calm through adversity is to be commended. I am impressed with you and would follow you to hell and back. Kate, your emotion shows your passion and it is no wonder you are at the side of Curtis. Congratulaions to you both on passing Cape Horn.
One other comment , I can see your dingy racing experience - so much sail trimming, I think you were even watching your telltails in 40kts with 2 reefs and managing your sail twist with the traveler. You can take the racer cruising but you can't take the racer out of the cruiser. 😀
All I can really say is awesome. The conditions are extreme. I can't believe that you are both smiling through all of that.A wonderful accomplishment, you both can be very proud.
I don’t know where to start, just wow! Have only recently been watching RUclips sailing videos, but of all the channels out there you guys are up there for the most exhilarating vlog I’ve seen yet, the smiles and passion you two through at that passage around the horn, was nothing short of an adrenaline fuelled, heart pounding, speeding boat spectacle. When the googles came out I was on the edge of my seat, you where there in the moment relishing all the sea could give. The two of you worked that boat like a Swiss watch, I’d feel so safe on board and in your hands, the luckiest pooch on the high seas, woof woof. Guys that was epic, congratulations 🤩
Incredible, it is not everyday one gets to watch the rounding of the Horn. What an experience you had. Congratulations, but it does seem to say enough!
in the future, get some non-prescription glasses with UV/blue light filters done on the lenses to help with that eye strain from the nav and the camera. If you get big frames and do the lenses with Transitions you'll have sunglasses when in the cockpit (only when sunny though) Expensive but worth it. Also thank you for documenting your intense journey and noteworthy sailing skills, as it's a welcome contrast from the common "bikini in catamaran" content.
it is not often a video, matches the expectation when someone hits a grand landmark on this planet. For example, how many videos of Everest do not match the expectation?....this...THIS...video really does deliver of what Cape Horn is in most of our minds..wow. I have seen a few of my RUclipsrs hit known capes, and rougher island crossings....and the danger always does seem to happen once you cross it. I am so happy for these two, and even happier they decided to include us in their accomplishment
We really enjoyed seeing the conditions you had to deal with, complimenting you both (and Roxy) on your success, being the first RUclips dog, rounding Cape Horn.
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! So happy for your achievement! And this "baptism" was under nice conditons: wind and sea making the challenge really worth! Can you believe a friend had to do it motoring because there was no wind and the sea was like a lake? Boring... As I said many times before, you make a great team! It's a lesson every time I see you sailing and Sweet Ruca is an incredible boat, the way she cuts the water and, at the same time is stable, you chose the right boat! WOW! I could feel how fast she was just before Kate says "15 knots" by watching the water was passing by the hull! Amazing! Seeing how happy you wer was a unique moment also! Hope now you can enjoy a bit more the Patagonia scenery, wildlife, the caletas, now that you've conquered what you wished for so long. Enjoy the moment to the fullest! And congratulations once more! VERY well done! My best
Hi José! We are really enjoying it down here. People surely motor around the horn quite a bit, so we believe it. We have a sunrise episode coming up about rounding the horn a different way ;-) We were seeking this weather and had lots of fun though and we are glad you enjoyed the ride along with us!
Well, if you're gonna round Cape Horn, you don't want to do it in a light breeze! Thanks so much for taking us on the ride, totally spellbinding and exhilarating. Total respect and congratulations to all three of you! 👏👏👏
Thanks. We didn't want to use the engine, but the anchorage is not charted, so arriving at night would have way too risky. The fun had to end early for safety reasons :-( Check out this week's episode for some fun upwind fjord sailing :-)
Bravo!! Brought tears to my eyes. There are many of us who would love to do what you did but sadly will not be able to. I got to live vicariously through you. Congratulations!!
That was Wonderful. What a Bucket List completion success. Nothing like a knockdown (almost), surfing and having to wrestle a sail in high seas and a 40mph breeze single handed! Appreciate the footage of Cape Horn, great filming and outstanding editing. Wishing you three continued Success and a great Voyage. Life is Good.
Wishing for the Cape Horn experience without music? We got you! Check out this condensed edit with absolutely no music and pure, raw sailing sounds! Check it out: ruclips.net/video/H40CoORJcMQ/видео.html
One hell of a great helmswoman there! Great work to you both. Copy that :)
Thank you kindly!
Great piece. Captures ocean sailing at its finest and most challenging. Cheers and push on.
Congrats guys...that's a huge achievement.

Awesome story, thank you Sir.
Congratulation! You are my inspiration! 🍾🥂🥂

She's impressed with you dude... you're getting lucky my friend !
AWESOME! Absolutely awesome. Yeah, as mentioned, BADASS! Loved your embrace of one another as you rounded the Cape!
Great video!
Watching the two of you work the sails and manage high winds is like listening to a finely tuned symphony. I admire you guys seamanship and skills.
Wow, that is music to our ears :-) Thank you Aytac.
SPOT ON!!!!
Amazing. Fine teamwork and coordination.
What a great adventure!
Magnifique
I admire the peaceful companionship. So supportive and feels good to listen to.

Go for it!
So impressive, calm, cool, and collected. Looks like you all were having fun at the same time. Sweet Roxy, you all are killing it- Bravo
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
The most impressive utube sailing video ever! I was moved to tears of joy as you two beautifully sailed past the cape.
Not really, and when she says "baby" as in "it's Cape Horn day, baby". She sounds like a dude which is grotesque.
Congratulations from the deep of my soul.... I am a sailor just like you guys but never imagine me crossing the Horn on my sailboat, you are a very BRAVE couple. God bless you guys and thank so much for your video, it is wonderful. Naf from California USA, Berkeley Marina.

Epic, you guys are lucky!
The dog is priceless
:-)
I just started watching….I hope he is clipped on during rough times?
Slocum had hell in the Strait of Magellan. I remember that section very well. Best of luck from Cape Breton Island, NS.😊
We couldn't imagine doing it when Slocum and early explorers did. He had almost nothing for charts in comparison, no engine, etc. etc.
That was fun for the whole money😮😂
I’m impressed with the two of you, very impressive seamanship. Congratulations on rounding the horn 👏👏
Wow good job you guys! Also over 15 knots boat speed indicated!!!!!!!!!!!! I think this might be the wildest ride I've ever seen a sailboat endure on RUclips....and I've seen thousands.
Congrats on Cape Horn. What a feat. Both of you are tough sailors.
Thanks David! It was a wild ride and we wouldn't have it any other way!
Amazing!
Wow guys, great job! Congrats on the passage, that’s one scary ride down there, but you breezed thru it! So impressed. I really want to learn how to sail so this doesn’t scare me to death just to watch. 👍
That was some awesome sailing!!! Hand steering around the Cape !! Well done!!
Fair winds ⛵️

A couples' foto at the cape........... Doesn't get any better‼️🌊💨💨⛵️👍🏻
Curtis, Kate and Roxi awesome job, congrats !!! Kate you are something what a gal. Curtis you are a lucky man.👍very well done.
Thanks you very much Alberto! Huge smiles and thumbs up from us to you!

Thanks for sharing your incredible adventure around Cape Horn. As I sat watching this video I had a big smile on my face, I was so proud of both of you, GREAT JOB!!!
That's the best news. So glad we could make you smile 🥰 Thanks or sharing with us
An average day off the Dodman , but impressive for all that .
Well, done the lady , sadly mine wasn't suited to this kind of stuff .
We all have our compromises. Cheers. Sweet Ruca is the true lady
What can I say ? If you’re looking for ocean sailing on You Tube then this is IT ! The Right Boat, The Right Voyage, and Best of all, the Right Crew ! Congratulations Captain Curtis and Kate !
Wow! That is the RIGHT comment! Thanks for the kind words Louis. We are touched! 🥹⛵️⛰️😁

Amazing! This is why I watch sailing channels. Congratulations on reaching a true milestone!
Bad asses really bad to the bone! Words can’t congratulate this WOW!
Wow thanks Colette! ⛵️👍🥰🌎🤠🥳
Sailing around Cape Horn? You must have nerves of steel... or should I say, a certain part of you made of titanium! Truly impressive! This is hands down the best boat video I've ever seen.

Thanks to our friend down under! Heavy weather is never good miles on the sails, but provides quite a wild ride!
What a thrill.. Congratulations, well done. It has been a fantastic journey to follow
Thanks Finn! We are just getting started, lots of miles yet to go around the world :-)
You two are really good together, thank you for taking us around the Horn x
Wonderful! Curtis, you are a true leader. Your knowledge and calm through adversity is to be commended. I am impressed with you and would follow you to hell and back. Kate, your emotion shows your passion and it is no wonder you are at the side of Curtis. Congratulaions to you both on passing Cape Horn.
Thanks for the kind words! It means a lot 🥰🥰🥰
One other comment , I can see your dingy racing experience - so much sail trimming, I think you were even watching your telltails in 40kts with 2 reefs and managing your sail twist with the traveler. You can take the racer cruising but you can't take the racer out of the cruiser. 😀
You got that right! 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks for the kind comment!
All I can really say is awesome. The conditions are extreme. I can't believe that you are both smiling through all of that.A wonderful accomplishment, you both can be very proud.
Thank you! 🌎⛵️🥳👍🥰⛰️

Glad you enjoyed it!
Incredible, it is not everyday one gets to watch the rounding of the Horn. What an experience you had. Congratulations, but it does seem to say enough!
Thank you! Glad we were able to share the experience! 🥰⛵️👍
in the future, get some non-prescription glasses with UV/blue light filters done on the lenses to help with that eye strain from the nav and the camera. If you get big frames and do the lenses with Transitions you'll have sunglasses when in the cockpit (only when sunny though)
Expensive but worth it.
Also thank you for documenting your intense journey and noteworthy sailing skills, as it's a welcome contrast from the common "bikini in catamaran" content.
bravo!
epic sail.....
Thank you!

We have a sunrise episode coming up about rounding the horn a different way ;-) We were seeking this weather and had lots of fun though and we are glad you enjoyed the ride along with us!
Wow, congratulations are absolutely in order! What a grand way to round Cape Horn.
Well, if you're gonna round Cape Horn, you don't want to do it in a light breeze! Thanks so much for taking us on the ride, totally spellbinding and exhilarating. Total respect and congratulations to all three of you! 👏👏👏
What a wonderful "surfing" * Beautiful experiences in contact with the forces of nature * Best regards! Inland sailor :)
My God! I am so proud for you both! What an accomplishment! You came, you saw, you conquered! Way to go! Impressive!!!!!!!!!
🦸♀️🦸♂️⛵️ Sweet Ruca was the true star! Thanks for the nice comment! We are quite proud 🥹
Great skills, tough boat! I wouldn't have dared to keep the main up in these conditions.
It's amazing to see pro sailors working together to create true synergy.
Thanks for the kind words 🥰 spread the word!
Very simply, 👍👍👏🙏.
Great Job.
The right boat, good equipment & great crew , incredible video, great job
We agree. Thanks Dennis!
Wow great video first time to watch your channel
Thanks for coming along! Hope to see you again!
Now thats a proper Cape Horn crossing. You guys got pummeled. Still..... not sure i would turn the engine on yet..... but i wasnt there either
Thanks. We didn't want to use the engine, but the anchorage is not charted, so arriving at night would have way too risky. The fun had to end early for safety reasons :-( Check out this week's episode for some fun upwind fjord sailing :-)
Very few sailing videos are so epic that you just have to re-watch it. This one is at the top of the list.
We agree! ;-)
What a great team. You both sail so well together. Just a pleasure to watch. Thanks for taking us with you, kind of
Thanks! Great RUclips username btw! 😂🤙👍⛵️

Thanks Gerald! Come to think of it, we do spend an absurd amount of time on the water. We are beginning to feel like Kevin Costner in Waterworld :-)

Amazing! I was also holding on tight during the near knock-down. Great communication. Great team. Congratulations!
