  • Another Big Guy electric scooter review! HiBoy kindly sent me their new Hiboy KS4 Commuter Electric Scooter. It's similar to their S2 but with lessons learned and faults revealed they made some updates and changes and created a new safer experience with an upgraded 350 Watt motor, honeycomb tires, rear suspension and still kept it quite light.

    I just ordered one of these after doing a short amount of research (spent like one hour comparing brands and specs lol but it was an intense hour before I pulled the trigger on one!!) seriously though... it truly seemed like the best value overall that met my particular desires for an electric scooter.. like how deep do you really need to dig to compare scooters... this has a great range, decent speed, I don't want to go too fast on one of these since I want to cruise around where people are walking , it looks good, has a good warranty ...ect...I feel pretty ok with my purchase and watching this video really supports it! all looks very good. I did purchase the "pro" version so that will probably be even better with 10" honey comb tires and 500 vs 350 wattage.... but likely an unnecessary upgrade? we will see...we do have some steep hills around here .PS the city you live in looks amazing. love those buildings in the background, nothing like that around here in PHX AZ

      It's a solid little machine :)
      I do hope you like it...who knows maybe you'll get another one in time ...but for short runs in the city around here I thoroughly enjoyed it :)
      I think it was wise to go with the Pro version ;)
      Thanks for the kind words about our fair city :) love it here on the island :)
      Cheers

    Nice quick review Tim. There just seems to be so many options at this price point there isn’t much to write home about a lot of the time with budget commuters and any design features now and it just puts the xiaomi model’s in a stronger position due to the following and sheer amount of them out there. I just think if u don’t want a xiaomi then go for something that doesn’t look so similar like the Apollo air. Sure not solid tyres but u get suspension on front wheel and it doesn’t look so generic shape and design wise.

    • @TimsElectric
      @TimsElectric  2 года назад

      I haven't tried the Apollo Air yet and I have never seen the Xiaomi...which is odd...but I've just never seen one here in BC. Would love to try one :)

      @@TimsElectric admittedly private scooters aren’t legal in the Uk…yet. But I see xiaomi scooters almost every day and we have a company called pure electric that make some of their own scooters and ebikes. There’s is also called air and air pro like Apollo’s bizarrely but there’s has no suspension and is more in the xiaomi bracket except there’s are 500 watt motors, drum break, 10 inch pneumatics and an ip65 rating! They even cover against water Ingress for the first year! I see those two the most, occasional ninebot max or kugoo scooter. I think if the Uk legalised them the industry here for them will be massive. What’s the laws in Canada?

    • @TimsElectric
      @TimsElectric  2 года назад +1

      currently the police don't seem to care about scooters here...very rarely (I think I've heard of one and it was an ebike going too fast)....I do hope the UK sorts things out...I would expect in dense urban areas that they're a godsend for popping out to the shops maybe even your local :)

    Thank you for this review on the KS4 Advanced Communter Scooter with 350w motor.
    Have you tried installing the add-on seat? I haven't seen a video of this scooter with the seat being used or how it folds with the seat.
    I had a total hip replacement and can't walk or stand for long periods of time. I need the seat!
    I am looking for something to get me around cities. I have an ebike but it is way too heavy for me to transport it. I am cyclist and use my ebike for most errands. But I need something when I travel that I can manage on my own. This means I need to be able to lift it into the hatchback of my car. You make it look easy to lift but you are a lot stronger than me. I am 64 years old, female, 5'6" and weigh 120 lbs. Every pound counts when I have to lift something, 40 lbs total is my max.
    Do you think this KS4 is a good match for me, NOT the pro! I don't need a lot of speed or distance.

    • @TimsElectric
      @TimsElectric  2 года назад +1

      I like the KS4 ...you might also look at the Uscooter V Booster...lighter and smaller foot print....but no I haven't tried any scooters with a seat :)

      I'm looking at Joyor G5 electric scooter with a seat, on Amazon. Comparing it to the Hiboy KS4. They both have similar features. But the G5 has suspension in the front, rear and in the seat.
      It has a larger motor 600w. Not that I need speed or distance.
      I'm waiting to hear back on the total weight including the seat on the G5 before I make a final decision.
      I'll let you know which one I decide on. This is tough.

    Does the app on this allow you to adjust the acceleration speed like on the S2 pro?
    Also wondering if anyone knows on the KS4 models if you can use the app to allow the scooter to accelerate without having to push off with your feet first? Thanks!

      Odd where do you see that?
      On their website it says: "MOTOR NOMINAL POWER 350W"
      and "Upgraded 350W motor, honeycomb tires, and rear suspension with dual brakes."
      I did wonder if it was a 500W motor as I was comparing it to another scooter with a 350W motor and it was quicker off the line and had a higher top speed.
