    I now have the same sub and box. Since I have the RP1500 in my car, I wired the sub to a 4 ohm load. Can't believe how hard it hits.
    Thank you so much for the videos.

      Why 4 ohm? Especially if it’s dual 4ohm, wired it to 1 ohm.. you’ll get all the power.

      @@larsonfrederick7885 Noo, depending how your amp works. I got a hifonics Brutus. It depends on the sub you get too. With my amp at 1ohm I get all 2400w of the amp. I had to wire mine down to 2ohm due to the subs I got. So I’m only getting 1600w at 2ohm. At 4 I’ll be getting even lower power.. so like I said depending on amp an subs you got. Got to make sure you get everything so it works together well.. I never run 4ohm, that’s to low of power for me. I either wire mine to 1 or 2 ohm.

    I picked one of these and a rp1200 up after not messing with car audio for years. I was impressed with the performance. Im actually going to upgrade to an EVL 12 soon just to get a better match with my amp. But all in all, after a month of owning it, I'm very happy with the setup. Nice review btw! it's good to see someone reviewing "budget" stuff. I don't think everyone realizes that you dont have to spend a ton of money to get a nice sounding setup.

    • @fishrrelaxing9361
      @fishrrelaxing9361 2 года назад +2

      Quality boxes are bit made of 5/8” mdf.. they are made of 1” face and 3/4” back and sides.. I will give them credit for making a decent box properly tuned and sized for the loaded sub packages they offer.. that is a lot more then many other companies can claim.. but quality they are not
      For those that are bit wood workers why this matters.. you can’t screw 5/8” mdf.. first of all screwing even 3/4” is not easy.. it will split very easy even when predrilled.. at 5/8” you can do nothing more then glue and use some 15g finish nails or some staples.. rip the carpet off one and if they used staples over cheaper finish nails I’d give them some credit there.. but fit the price you can’t hate them..
      For the record a quality box.. with 1” face and 3/4” everything else will be dado Grover in at all joints.. glue alone is all you need cause the type of joints used.. this is 10x the time to do and why two boxes that look the same.. one costs $200 the other $600. Trust me the quality box will be handed down for generations. Skar boxes as hard as their subs hit will not stand the test if time.. they will slowly over hard use start to separate and leak air.. you wouldn’t even notice this most of the time especially in a covered box..
      The single best thing you could do for them is remove the sub and use some cheap fiberglass or epoxy mix and coat the entire inside of them.. it will help with the lower build market also to last longer while not overly effecting the interior air space..
      In theory all mdf boxes should be corner braces to ensure proper screw usage off the edges where mdf is weak. But this would make all boxes a little larger and companies too lazy to do this. They would rather sell you garbage materials in the smallest size and price possible then built it properly and charge another $30. You can make a 5/8” box good with bracing.. the issue is still a 5/8” front face will have deflection so you’re actually losing some power do to the box face flexing dampening the speaker..
      So if you hitting 144 with 2 evl in the skar box and amp package.. (like many are) imagine what you would hit if the box wasn’t robbing you of output.. prob enough to place in a local spl comp with just $800 sub amp and wire combo package with big three upgrade added.. this is why people say box build is everything for sq and spl..
      But like I said.. for a preloaded package it’s about the best out there maybe second to only jl’s offerings.. they tuned and sized the box specifically to the two speakers they offer in the boxes. That is a lot more then almost anyone else does.. kicked solo packages being the only other exclusion of the top of my head.. funny fact.. the skar boxes although most are sold with the side’s they are actually tuned to the evl’s lol.. they close though.. another fun fact.. given the specs.. although they both hit in these boxes.. the evl would do better sealed then ported.. it’s a .67 range speaker .. so it can work ok in porter it’s not ideal.. it the sdr is like a .58 it’s a sealed k my all day speaker yet they don’t even offer a sealed box.. and the soecs for sealed on the evl says 1.75? It should be like 1.25 similar to the sdr if you do the math based on the specifications sheet.. 🤷‍♂️
      Honestly idk why they don’t offer sealed packages. For the size you could run 3 10’s in about the same total box size.. they could be selling one extra speaker for every package they sell for almost zero manufacturing costs.. they need some better in-house people who are a little better at math.. cause 3 10’s going to hit harder then 2 12’s and sound 10x better sealed.. they could do the same with 12’s as well but as they don’t offer a dual 15 setup profit to be made would be little less on paper.. plus 3 12’s won’t fit well in between the wheel wells of most cars with out a very angular box design which would make for some much deeper boxes then most would like seeing how 1/3 of cars already can’t fit the higher under the rear deck.. but they could get damn creative with some 8’s and 10’s

    You never disappoint man good vid. To me AP is like RF-bass head friendly. I’m going to upgrade my 12 inch mid bass just not sure witch sub I’m going to get, your a big help though. But I’m picking up bad habits and I’m now thinking for 2020 buyn a sub every other month or so cause I use to kinda collect subs when I was younger then as you get older you end up selling stuff you later regret cause you needed that new something right away. Cone surface is important I’m looking for sensitivity the old infinity reference I got from my buddy has high sensitivity but coil is less then 2inches and is used but is still going. Happy holidays!! I’m going to see what subs are on sale after Xmas.

    You got a pretty decent channel going . I've watched you over the past year or so and you seem to be doing good. I want to ask you a favor, if you do test the savard high q please don't put it in the wrong box like you the emf lowballer. It is a lot better than you said it was you just have to put it in the right box. They are kind of sensitive to enclosure volume and tuning unlike the other cheap subs out there. The savards have a little more flexibility with enclosures, but I think you will be happy with the test results on them. They sound very clean and are very transient, and they push just as hard if not harder than the spl type subs around 200

    Depends on the surround if it's like this and wide then yeah it's not the greatest but if it's like the egg roll surround wide and tall the tallness will make up for the missing cone area because it moves further.

    • @bailey2517
      @bailey2517 2 года назад

      This sub doesn't need "egg roll" surround though because it's only 600WRMS, so it's not gonna have very much excursion in the first place. Look at sundown's U-series subs. They have more excursion than this sdr 12, but SMALLER surround. It's just not necessary unless you need crazy excursion.

  • @Chuck_Sanders
    @Chuck_Sanders Год назад

    Comparing this to the Audiopipe sub, is comparing apples to oranges. The Skar sub is less efficient, compared to the Audiopipe firstly. Second thing is, you were using different enclosures.. with different tuning. The Skar is better in smaller enclosures, but you were using their prefab tuned at 36hz... and playing WAY below tuning. You were unloading that Skar, creating tons of heat, therefore smelling the coil. If you're going to test different drivers, and play lower frequencies, tune accordingly. If you're testing similar size subwoofers, with similar recommendations for box volume.. build a test enclosure with an interchangeable port, for tuning up and down in the frequency bands. I'm not a brand hugger, and I don't brand bash either. That Audiopipe is a great budget sub, as is this Skar. I just recommend, that people shy away from, the EVL series. The EVL are horribly inefficient subwoofers, and the tsp's show that. The DDX is a great, all around daily subwoofer.
