Man, that blooper fight is way more freaky to watch now as an adult. It's funny how childhood me didn't think twice about ripping the blooper's arms off and watching them flail around disturbingly on the ground. XD
Ah, yes. I was older than that (I first played Nintendo 64 when it came out when I was in high school) and I thought that it was a kind of odd thing to do to an enemy and I felt bad for that blooper.
Mal did such an awesome job with Petey and once she got the first hit, she got the next 2 really quick by not allowing Petey to fight back. The practice made the difference.
A couple of tips for Stephen and Mal: You guys should really use the first person camera more often. It's way more accurate than just spraying in place with the R button held down. Also, if you press R and A at the same time with the Spray-Nozzle you can do a "shotgun blast" of sorts. You'll do a short-range blast of water that has a wide spread. It's really good for getting goop off the ground. Lastly, I'm pretty sure you can center the camera behind Mario by pressing L. You can also sidestep if you hold L and move the control stick.
You guys actually have the life thing at the end backwards. Running into a wall on a blooper costs you a life. Failing the time challenge doesn't. Good luck!
@@GoldenBoy-lv1jg yep. When I had to do this back in the day, I grinded up on lives and offed mario whenever I screwed up instead of going back to Delfino Plaza everytime. It was better for moral lol
*Sunshine Physics* "Mmm! New players. Yum! My favorite!" In case the game doesn't tell you, a quick tap of the R Button will fire a burst of water ahead of you.
As someone who's played Mario Sunshine several times over the past 13 or so years, it's so weird to watch someone who's never played it before. I can't wait to see the progression throughout the series.
Either that or it'll end up like Pikmin 2 where their sanity is slowly eaten away, and the audience is left watching these two people struggle and claw their way through every blue coin to get to the end. Stephen's gonna need more than tea this time.
As someone who has also played Mario Sunshine in my life, I remember how freaking difficult it is. I think there is a reason the first Mario game I ever completed story mode in EVER was Odyssey... my lack of skill.
Fun fact: During the demo phase of this game one of the levels you could play was the one with Petey at the windmill. At this point the stage was called: “Wedding at the Windmill”.
So far in the space of 2 episodes, we’ve had a criminal trial for graffiti, then the murder of Petey and then you pull the tentacles off of a giant squid, which I guess counts as animal cruelty... Man, crime really is a slippery slope on Isle Delfino! Loving the series from Australia so far you two!
Just wanted to pop in and give a friendly reminder that in many cases, pressing "Y" is helpful as it locks you in place and you can better aim your flood without having the hold and click in "R". Keep up the great work!
"You kept stumbling over the controls like what is water and what is jump?" Yeah you definitely benefit the most from the off-camera time to play around a bit. In this game it's really important you get an intimate understanding of the movement options. Firstly, it's important to play as Mario completely independently of the FLUDD, learn how he handles, learn how he runs, slides, jumps, and interacts with his surroundings. Play as if it were an extension of SM64 and learn the few differences, like there being no long-jump because the button is now mapped to your FLUDD, but you still have ground pounds, triple jumps, backflip options, SIDE FLIPS, and wall jumps. THEN, once you are comfortable running, jumping, and moving as Mario, the FLUDD adds a whole extra layer to your options while running, jumping, and sliding. Learn how to water a steady stream while in motion, and learn to properly aim grounded FLUDD (even more easy with first person mode, to be honest). Become comfortable switching nozzles and feeling out when you need to hover, even if only briefly, or for extended durations, but more importantly, learning what your jumps will connect into and how the Hover will facilitate and extend those connections. Really, once you're comfortable handling Mario and Mario with FLUDD, the entire game just becomes a playground of tricks and fun.
I started replaying Sunshine last week since I try to always make it a point to play it at least once every year. I still love it to death and it really is a game that defined my childhood. The controls are great and it's such a relaxing game to sit down and play (when not going after all blue coins that is)

As much as you say this game’s controls are hard, I think you’ll do much better in this game than in Mario 64 since Mario 64 is janky while this game is not. Okay maybe it’s a little janky, but you have the FLUDD to compensate. Also yes, you should save as many blue coins as you can for the end of the game, so that you can just follow a guide.
I find this game way jankier than SM64. SM64's jank can be attributed to being the very first of its kind, but I'd still say it controls well (though the camera is really primitive, that much is certain). Sunshine's jank comes from an unfinished physics engine that will really start to show when you get to the secret FLUUD-less levels, where the bad level design really starts to kick in.
Cartoon Critic Sure, but 99% of the time you have FLUDD, so as I said FLUDD compensates for the jank plus just the fact that Sunshine has a GameCube controller and not an N64 controller makes it better since N64 joysticks suck. I guess it’s just a matter of opinion.
ThunderHammer99 I agree that the N64 controller isn't very good, but SM64 was also specifically built around that controller, which is why some people had such a hard time adjusting to the DS version's controls. Sunshine had the benefit of hindsight in its favor and it's STILL a mess! A fun mess, but still a mess.

A Plumber after my own heart. :P
I've played a bunch of Sunshine and never knew you could jump on the Pokey heads, I have always just splattered them against a wall or pushed them into water
I believe pushing them into a wall is better though when going for the 100 coins if my memory serves correct.
Yeah they drop like three coins when killed with a wall
Both did good.😎
