I actually really liked the ‘No Fludd’levels just because of the challenge of not having flood after using it so much P.S watching this makes me want to play through the game again and seeing Mal play through it is hilarious
So tip about the FLUDDless levels, there's two in every world and always have "secret" in the title (as seen by the sandcastle secret and hillside secret). Also after completing them you can reenter them and play the level again with FLUDD where you collect 8 red coins for another shine.
@@xJC4Rx I know he mentioned the red coins, I just didn't know if he only thought they were the levels like around the windmill village and you're totally right about Ricco harbour! Haven't played it in a long time so good on you for catching that
Quick tip: When you are in those Fludd-less worlds, if I remember correctly, you can jump on those nails on the wooden platforms for coins and sometimes a one up.
The FLUDD-less level in Bianco Hills was where I got my first game over. I never really played a 3D Mario game until I got this on the Gamecube on Christmas of 2004 I want to say. I hated those levels but as I got older kinda realize it's for the challenge and you used FLUDD a lot. Just gotta have a bit of confidence in your platforming abilities to make it through those levels. Heck there's actually a speedrun category where you don't use the Hover Nozzle at all.
Something to keep in mind during the No-FLUUD areas is that there is usually a 1-up that you can get from doing things like pounding in the nails on the platforms using the ground pound. Figuring out where the 1-up is and grabbing it each time you die can make those areas much more tolerable.
If you're really serious about 100% this game, with how difficult and downright TEDIOUS it is to do so, I recommend maybe reconsidering the death switch rule. Especially since it's Mal's first time playing the game, she should be able to repeat any challenges she dies to at least a few times until she personally gives up on it. Otherwise she'll never be prepared enough for the most difficult parts of the game since she died to the first 2 FLUDD-less levels and didn't get a chance to redeem herself on FLUDD-less platforming. I also cannot stress enough how important it is to get comfortable using the Y button to aim and shoot with the spray nozzle, the game is basically designed to have you know how the spraying mechanics work best when fighting enemies or getting past obstacles, and it usually requires precise and steady spraying.
A little tip that might come in useful is using the side jump. It works the same way it does in all 3D Mario games where you pull in the opposite direction of where you want to go and then immediately press the opposite way while jumping. I dont know if I explained that very well but it really helps. It basically just acts like a normal jump but you get much more height. You don't get as much height as the spin jump but it is easier to pull off and you can do it on narrow platforms with practically no room. Start using it because it will be a huge help.
I'm glad Mal is quickly learning the ropes and Stephen's un-rusting his Sunshine skills! I do have one little tip though: Try spraying random things in the environment that look like they could move with water. There are a lot of interactive, movable elements just in the Windmill Village in Bianco Hills and they could nab you extra coins, lives, etc.
I said this in the previous episode (along with a bunch of other tips), you guys should really use the first person view while taking on the bosses. It's much more accurate and you can spray the enemies before they can even get to you. Also I've always loved the secret levels. Aside from a select few they're really challenging and a lot of fun.
Reading the D.E.B.S at the bottom of the screen can lead to some cool information going on in the game. Also, the more shines you get the sunnier Delfino Plaza becomes. Just some fun extra details!
Stephen you need to have Mal complete a Secret Mission. If not to insue hilarious moments, but so she can feel the absolute relief of completing them. Those missions give you the best euphoria in Sunshine, she absolutely must feel that feeling.
The way game overs work in this game Stephen are that when you continue it take you back to the Plaza to whenever you last saved. As far as the secret levels go, you can tell of the episode is one because it will say something SECRET. I believe every level has one but some have two.
I think Mal is gonna like more the "explore around" episodes (like getting 8 red coins in Bianco Village). Hope she doesn't get frustrated with the Fluddless levels, they take practice. No one finished them in their first tries
The FLUDD-less levels I find to be a ton of fun! Also, there's a lot of things you can spray with FLUDD! Interact and mess around with things in each world!

None of the shines in the non plaza worlds are intended that you have to use other nozzles Dont use the hover nozzle to clean mass amounts of goop, its just a time waster tbh, its much faster (and easier) to just be running while you spray in front of you, thatll clean anything at your feet All the "Secret" levels have an extra shine so you have to go back to those at some point. Any level that has only one "Secret" episode has another hidden shine somewhere in the world, and all worlds have a 100 coin shine ( so all worlds have 11 shines and 30 blue coins total)

But I'll try not to yell at my screen too much. And don't bother with the nozzles, you'll get those as natural progression.
i remember this surfing star sprite had a strict time or maybe there is a 2nd star to it. the last turn where mal says "when you turn the corner theres one right there" 1:52 you can jump right over that wall and skip the entire turn and next turn
Yeah every Mario game after 64 they always gave Mario a handicap so that’s why I love the Fluddless levels it’s just Mario “Jumpman” Mario doing what he does best
Something that helps in the no fludd levels is that sometimes there are lives hidden in the nails you just need to ground pound them :) but sometimes they are too close to the edge and I died trying to get them so just be careful it may be useful only when you are running out of lives
4:10 Wrong, you were already missing a bar of health. You can't take damage during cutscenes. (The only exception is in Pinna Park: when Mario loses his hat, he takes steady damage. That damage persists even while you're reading a textbox, causing Mario to die while someone's talking. But it won't play the death music until you come out of the textbox.) And suddenly, Goop Piranha is a hard mini-boss. ^^;
Jump and while in mid air press A and R at the same time to do a burst spray its very useful in many situations (Im probably going to say this until i either get bored or they utilise it)
I don't know if it's been said in the comments in the other videos, but if you spray the ground in front of you before you do the belly slide, you'll just keep going like you're on a slip-n-slide. It's a lot faster than just hopping on your stomach.
Everyone hates the FLUDD-less levels? Really? I always really liked them, even if I found them frustrating. Also apparently the Blooper Racers have different 'stats' depending on the color you pick. Green is slow but easier to control, Purple is fast but hard to control, and Yellow is balanced.
There is a secret technique in this game with the Squirt Nozzle. It's called the MEGA SQUIRT!!! If you can figure it out, it'll be helpful for widespread cleaning.
Just my 2 cents, but since sunshine is a hard game, it might be worth it to give Mal a few extra tries cause at least in this episode there were many times where Mal died and then Stephen went and did it on his first try, making it look easy. Well by the fact Stephen hasn't played it since 2002 and Mal has never played it before I think it is likely that they will take a while to beat it. Which is good news for me because I love this game and this LP.
Holding up does increase speed on the non pink ones. Speedrunners use the green one because holding up tops out its speed at the same as the pink one and controls better
@@Neoaltmint But then where was the semi-cutscene of the plant dying? The top of the lighthouse was in sight while they were still able to walk around. That's definitely not supposed to happen as far as I'm aware.

OPEN YOUR MOUTH glad to see I'm not the only one that enjoys kung pow enter the fist
I thought that was a reference to BotW and "Open your eyes", lol
@@Albumancer nope you should watch it it's a fantastic parody film
I loved all the Fluddless levels as a kid

Hey you guys in the blooper surfing mini game there are 2 shines to get I think you have to below 45 and then below 40 seconds you can save some time by jumping over some things and just using the pink one cause it’s the fastest. So yeah good luck you guys 😊
Ooh peace of candy
Stephen 2019
Ground pound the nails in the secret levels! Sometimes they have lives or coins!
27:00 This game is fantastic. You shush!
Mal is gettin better hooray
The Secret levels are definitely the gatekeepers of Mario Sunshine. If you can't get ahold of the game, the game will get ahold of you.
Tip: you can jump over the walls. I think there’s a second one for a better time
I can’t wait for them to get to pinna park. Best fight and reveal in the game.
It’s funny as a kid, i always called him blue mario.
Spoilers:
Granted all you have to do is play smash bros to know who is shadow mario.
can't wait until they play Mario Galaxy cause their is some what of a Co-Op Feature in Galaxy 1 & 2
You're able to take out the paint piranhas from the safety of the rooftops instead of being right in its face.

Mista would disagree.
Please zoom the camera out with the c-stick sometimes! XD Also, I can't wait til you get to the hotel level, that's my favorite place.
Mal had to beat 50 seconds, she got 56.
It may be an unpopular opinion but I actually like the secret levels....I find them fun
I love your video
Pls upload a lot of this pls I lovethis
Well by the fact Stephen hasn't played it since 2002 and Mal has never played it before I think it is likely that they will take a while to beat it. Which is good news for me because I love this game and this LP.
Uploads of Sunshine will be on Saturday-Monday.
Haha, Stephen thinks there are only one Secret missions per world. Hehe.
The speed on all the bloopers is static, holding up does nothing. Green is the slowest, purple is the fastest
Looks like Pink to me...
Holding up does increase speed on the non pink ones. Speedrunners use the green one because holding up tops out its speed at the same as the pink one and controls better
You can only kill the Cataquacks with Dune Buds.
And Yoshi, but that is only in Episode 6.
...but I loved the platforming stages. They were awesome, and generally the opposite of suck.
Wished this was on Switch.😥
You got your wish! :o
@@cagzerozero Yeah I seen the news. Had pre ordered. Comes tomarrow late 8 PM.
@@cagzerozero Now ne nice to see that one metroid released. The o e that is like the scroller, linnear. I hadn't played it. Was on GBC or GBCA.
Allen Tax yeah I have that game, it’s fun
I, uh... I honestly have no idea what happened with the Sludge Piranha there. That looked like a glitch more than anything.
They just cut to when Mal took it out because they thought it would still need 2 cycles.
@@Neoaltmint But then where was the semi-cutscene of the plant dying? The top of the lighthouse was in sight while they were still able to walk around. That's definitely not supposed to happen as far as I'm aware.
@@ShycoWar Like I said that part was cut because they thought they still had a 2nd cycle, the Piranha death looks exactly the same as going to the 2nd cycle to someone unfamiliar with it. Also the part with the lighthouse is normal, at the very least it's been the same with me whenever I played.
Huh, I never knew that if you died on the first mission of one of the first 3 worlds, the Polluted Piranha respawns. That’s...odd.
21:05 Uhh..how? This is the first world, it’s very much intended for you to use the hover nozzle lol. Also all the red coins are basically on a path that you can follow.
I think it might have been because they got a Game Over and it loaded their last save, which would have been just as Gelato Beach appeared.
There are actually two fluddless levels per world
13:15 *Mom’s spaghetti*
Forewarning about nozzles: If you find a nozzle in a world, you found a nozzle for that world only.
Yessssss!!!
So much backseat playing by Stephen in this series so far...
To be fair, Stephen mentioned in breakfast stream that this game had been stressing Mal out. So I think part of the backseat might be supportive and not letting her get frustrated
Meanwhile Luigi is doing time for littering. Mario I'd paroled to clean graffiti that kills. Luigi is fighting paper machete with scissors.
